The historical feel, homely not ultra modern. Comfortable bed , good breakfast , very nice staff & nice to have a plunge pool!
Close to amenities, quiet at night.
Door open card didn’t work very well! Decor in rooms a bit tired but nothing drastic. Our shower turn on knob was very stiff.

The staff were friendly and very helpful.
As a serving member of the RN I discovered I could have lower room rates but was not allowed to benefit as I’d booked with Booking.com

Friendly staff, decent breakfast, on-site bar. Staff gave my father a birthday card and stored a wheelchair for him- thank you.
The ONLY reason I chose this hotel is because it advertised a pool table and we were celebrating my dad's birthday and he LOVES playing pool. We thought we could play a few games each evening after exploring Portsmouth. When we asked to play pool we were advised that the hotel does not have a pool table, only snooker. Had we known this, we would have stayed at our other choice which was in a better location and slightly cheaper.

Noise in the bedroom .

The staff were welcoming and professional. The room was comfortable, functional and quiet, with free tea and coffee. The breakfast buffet (included in the room price) was excellent: good selection of cooked and continental options in a pleasant restaurant setting with attentive staff. The hotel location was excellent for visiting the Historic Dockyard, Gunwharf Quays and waterfront. It also had nice seating areas and a bar. We managed to park in the hotel grounds, but spaces are limited and not guaranteed. Overall, a good choice for our overnight stay.
The decor was a bit tired, even for a 'budget' room. We would have liked a blind on the bathroom window - frosted glass can only conceal so much! The room was also very hot even without the heating on. The room door slammed shut even if you tried to stop it, so might have been annoying for other guests.

Location was just round the corner from Gumwharf Quays, about a 10 minute walk or 2 minute bus ride into central portsmouth.
the room great, it was quiet, warm and the bed was comfortable. the room was well kept and clean when I arrived and the tea and coffees were replenished daily.
the food was also really nice
just the constant opening and closing of the hallway doors was just so loud, I don't know if it was guests but at random times through the night it was a little much. other than that it was really nice.

Excellent value for money, nice clean quiet warm room with a big bathroom, bath and lashings of hot water. Hotel easy to find and has a few parking spaces.
Quirky old place - hopefully it won't get redeveloped into an 'art' hotel!!!

Nice area to sit in downstairs. Good quick check in. Breakfast not bad at all for a tenner.
Confusion with class of room. Basic and classic seem to be on the same level to me. And if you look on the whats in the rooms page they are exactly same inside. Why call them differently is it to make out one is better than the other and charge more money?

cheap and cheerful, no frills but hot water a plenty, comfy bed and great breakfast at a bargain price

Great location, 5 minutes walk from the Historic Dockyard, and 10 minutes to Gun-wharf and the Spinnaker Tower.
The hotel is great, but don't expect the Hilton. It is clean, honest, and great value. Breakfast is top-notch.
No parking, however, just across the road is a public car-park that is safe, secure, and quite cheap. Don't let this put you off, the hotel is great value and paying for parking will not be a drama.

The bed was comfortable enough
The place is so old . need total refurbishment extremely dated. I had a drink in the bar. Carling. Took it back completely flat . Asked to pour a new one as glasses aren't any good still the same after he gave me new one .the widget isn't working. and tasted absolutely terrible. I think the lines are now being cleaned . My room had the smallest tv you could buy and was terrible to watch it kept cutting out all the time . Complained in the morning was told it must be the bad weather 🤣🤣🤣🤣.sorry but was so disappointed especially when i walked passed the Premier inn 1 minute away

Quirky older hotel. Rooms small but clean. Huge bathtub! Excellent breakfast. Location superb! 10 minute walk` from train station and 5 minutes from the dockyards!
