It is a beautiful place in the valley near a wide river below rather high triple mountain top, the valley begins with a view on a castle. Overall, very nice views.
The hotel built in the times of the belle epoch (~1904) have seen all these times relatively unchanged, i.e. due for some extensive renovation.

When it comes to location, the Hotel de la Gare could hardly be closer to the Gare in question, Montbovon.
It is literally just across the road and has served the village, amazingly, since 1669, long before the super-efficient and comfortable Swiss electric trains served the station.
Whilst the hotel building is large and looks impressively-built, in early July it was quite quiet as was Montbovon itself - a small place with few facilities. There is a local shop (cheese being their speciality) a church, a school, the staion, this hotel and a lovely lake which is a pleasant hour-long walk.
So there is no restaurant or bar although these can be found in the nearby villages accessible via the regular train service. The hotel will provide an evening meal (it needs to be booked in advance) and breakfast is simple but good and, for Switzerland, excellent value at €7.
Don't expect sophisticated living here - the room I had was simply furnished (with no tv and the shared use of the bathroom/toilet with a sink in the room) and, as it was a corner room, had a direct view over the station and towards the village. Somewhat bizarrely, for quite a distance the train shares the road with the cars!
For the price - and again, for Switzerland, a very affordable price - it is definitely good for a stopover and, I suspect, in winter is used for longer stays when the area is covered in snow and seasonal activities take place.
A TV in the room would have been useful

Directly at the train station. Friendly staff that's really making the best of the hotel. Great view from the balcony. Breakfast is reasonably priced. Room cleaned even during the stay.
It's no 5 star, multiple hundred francs per night stay, and you shouldn't expect that? No complaints!

Welcoming host, beautiful location and right next to the Railway station. We also had dinner here one evening and it was a very nice, reasonably priced (for Switzerland!) home cooked meal.

Very cheap, great location. Friendly staff, 20 mins to Bulle centre. Would return and recommend.
No hotel bar, not much in the village. But lots going on if you have a car. Probably not a great location without a car.
However train station is right opposite the hotel and train goes to Montreux and Bulle.

From the very beginning, I chose this hotel for one night stay because it was on the way of my trip. And also because the reviews were good. BUT it turned out that there are a lot of other advantages.
Firstly, it is really located near the train station, and it is very convenient. Secondly, it was warm in the rooms and in the bathroom, in addition, you can use additional blankets if you are worried not to freeze at night. Thirdly, there is a stunning terrace, floor-to-ceiling windows and mountain view ❤❤❤ Fourthly, the hotel is located along the Golden Pass Express panoramic express route. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT - The most caring and helpful hosts I have ever met. And I have stayed in many hotels. They helped with all my questions and tried their best to make the stay enjoyable. I really recommend staying here if you are in this region of Switzerland 👏 By the way, a wonderful breakfast is also served here and you can order dinner a day in advance. And, they say, it snows here and I think you can ski. In addition, the magical city of Montreux - an ideal place for walking and relaxing - just 40 minutes away by train.
Nothing to change for this price

Good breakfast and nice location
As I travelled alone I would have liked the possibility of having walking tours or cycling tours to meet other people. There are no restaurants in the area in the evening or other places to go to to meet other people. Best to go in group

Location ist quite close to the railway station; the village itself has just a few shops, so you should bring things you need with you

The price is reasonable comparing to other hotels in the area
This is a very old building. The shared bathroom smells and my friend found many bugs in her room. The towel is stiff and the shower water is on the cold side. Absolutely a budget friendly place, but I won't recommend if you are expecting something more.

In the heart of the mountains.
Nice and simple.
Pillows were tired.

Nice room, nice environment, friendly hosts.
The older building can be quite noisy at night, depending on the other guests.

The location is ideal for onward travel for daily visits to Gruyere and Gstaad by the Swiss Rail service . The breakfast was excellent especially the home made bread and jams and the evening 3 course meal and coffee is great value for 25 francs.. Its a family run hotel and the owners are very friendly and welcoming . The rooms are simple and traditional and reflect the history of the hotel which has been hosting guests since the 17th century .
Nothing all good.

The host is superb. They went extra mile to make sure that we had a great time. If you're looking to spend time in tranquility, this is as peaceful as it gets. Its a small quite town, well connected via train.

Nice little place for an overnight stay, nothing fancy - it was just right. We stayed in a room that had attached bathroom.
Located right next to the railway station. There were parking spaces for guests.
The entry to the bath cubicle was a little too tight.

Our stay here was brilliant the hotel had such a traditional charm to it, it felt like we had gone back in time or just stepped into a hotel from an Agatha Christie book. Our room was very nice and cool even when it was +30C outside, the beds were comfy and the view from the window was beautiful.
The staff were friendly and spoke good English ( much better than any of us spoke French!) and had a good and simple breakfast made every morning.
Montbovon itself was quite quiet and nice to walk around - especially down by the lake, it is also well connected to montreux with regular trains running every hour and since the hotel was just steps away from the station this was even more convenient.
To be honest the train ride from montbovon to montreux is reason enough to visit here, it had some of the most beautiful and serene views I have ever seen.
There is also a good cafe in the train station across the road open all day, which had good cakes and sandwiches along with some Swiss beer!
I would be thrilled to stay here again and if I ever come back to Switzerland I expect I shall, many thanks for the lovely stay!
The trains early in the morning can be quite loud, but the property can’t really do anything about that

Nice stay with good food at fair price. Very friendly staff.

The hotel building and atmosohere made me felt I was in a historical romance novel. With its classic charms and with this old train station opposite the hotel guests take lots of instagram worthy photos.
All good.
