This was our 5th trip to Culebra and it has never disappointed us. We usually stay at the flamenco beach villas but this house was so much better. The place all to ourselves. The hammocks, the beach amazing. We relaxed so much. The kids loved seeing the hermit crabs, the little lizards and the iguanas. The parents did too actually lol. Tulio was excellent to work with great communication and even met us early when our flight was changed to an earlier one. We will definitely be back.

My husband I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. House is as described, but so much more. We were alone in this little piece of heaven all week- not one person walked by our beach. Nature all around us- crabs, iguana, gecko, chickens, fish, pelicans etc. Our advice, in order to enjoy it all———- rent a golf cart- we spent days wandering around finding beautiful beaches… all of which were absolutely beautiful and very uncrowded. Don’t be afraid to wander down unmarked dirt roads with your golf cart ( or jeep)… that’s how you find the most beautiful spots. Make reservations at Susie’s, early in your stay- great restaurant!!! Also go early to Dinghy Dock and the taco place. Lots of good restaurants- enjoy them! We also got great snacks from the local roadside trucks. Liquor , beer, groceries, essentials are reasonably priced. Take lots of sunblock and bug spray.( No seeums and mosquitoes are present especially morning and evening) Bring snorkel gear. Enjoy this one of a kind adventure!

This property was located a very short walk from Culebra’s best snorkeling spot. Great views and great outdoor seating. The owner was great about communicating and happy to share local knowledge!

Wonderful waterfront cottage with great breezes and views. House was close to town and a beach but the road is hilly. We walked to both numerous times but not everyone may want to. There are vans that will take you from town (ferry dock) to Flamenco Beach for $5. Tulio was great, met us at the dock, and was readily available during our stay. Of note, the bedrooms are upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. You need to go outside so a flashlight is needed. Only hot water is in the shower.

Sweet place in a quiet, private location, but close to everything. Host was great, place was clean and peaceful.

This was my third rental on Culebra. All have been wonderful but this one exceeded my expectations in many ways. Within 5 minutes of arriving at the cabin we were planning a return trip. The cabin is not visible from the road and we felt completely secluded, which we loved. Other reviews mentioned the hammocks and I wondered just how great can a hammock be. Turns out, they can be magic. We ate at least two meals a day there and the kitchen was great. Tulio was easy to communicate with and a great source of information. I would not change a thing about this property or the experience.

We loved the open air living and the hammocks. It was lovely to take our coffee down to the water to look out over the ocean in the mornings.

This house was the perfect place to for our girls trip to Culebra! The space was clean and inviting! We had plenty of room for all 5 of us to relax and enjoy! We snorkeled right off of the back yard! Tulio was the prefect host! He made several recommendations and was sure to share his wealth of knowledge with us; all the best things that Culebra has to offer! He was also available the entire time to answer any questions by text! We will definitely be booking this place again in the future! Thank you Tulio!

We enjoyed the Yellow House a lot! If you are expecting a high-end tropical get-away, Culebra might not be for you. If you want a laid back, relaxing spot, with ton of great beaches and snorkeling, this is a place for you. The house had everything we needed to be comfortable and do most of our own cooking. Not a lot of restaurants open and easily accessible - and that was ok with us. Thank you Tulio - you have a gem.

This place is in an ideal area if you want seclusion, but not to far from restaurants and groceries. very peaceful and relaxing. The outdoor lounging was an ideal way to relax. Great snorkeling right of the beach.

Great location and great communication with Tulio. He gave good recommendations on the beaches and restaurants to check out. Not all beaches are sandy so just make sure you bring some good supportive shoes for when you walk in the rocky beaches 🙂

We spent an amazing week at Tulio's house in Culebra! My teenager stated that this trip exceeded their expectations and a large part of that was this wonderful house! We had plenty of room to spread out, spent lots of time in the hammocks and loved the open air kitchen/ dining / living room areas - we had hermit crabs, roosters and even an iguana join us at various times. We ate breakfasts at the umbrella table on the beach and ice cream in the lounge chairs on the beach. The beds were quite comfortable and we did not even have to turn on the A/C upstairs because of all the windows and a great breeze. The location of this house was also perfect - a few minutes to downtown and a few minutes to Melones beach and convenient to all other locations too. Tulio met us on arrival and gave us the tour and additional property insights - he was great and very responsive to questions. We highly recommend this property.

Mr. Ortiz met us after we finished renting our golf cart and brought us to the cottage. He provided information on the Island and some great tips. This is an great location close to town but yet far enough away to enjoy some solitude. The open kitchen is a great place to cook and hang out while still being able to enjoy a beautiful view of the ocean steps away. We loved our week stay and will be looking forward to staying here again! We enjoyed having the place to ourselves but also a great place for couples, few friends or a family.

Pros: Short walk (5 minutes) to downtown in one direction, and in other direction to best snorkeling on the island at Melones Beach. Waterfront property - decent snorkeling, eat on the beach, watch the water, search for sea glass. Great upper deck - wide, covered, wraps two sides of the cottage. Hammocks!! Cons: Bugs. Specifically lots of no-see-ums for a couple hours in the morning and a couple hours in evening. Bug spray 100% necessary since cooking and eating are open air on the lower level. Some maintenance issues - loud air conditioner in one room, stove partially functional (2 stovetop elements worked, 2 did not, oven broils but doesn’t bake), kitchen sink drain plumbing leaked, some wall sconce lights in second level did not work. Sleeping pillows were very thin.

Tulio was easy to communicate with. The cottage was very clean and had all the necessities you would want. The location was convenient to Dewey but secluded enough for privacy. We will be back to the yellow cottage soon.

The host was very responsive and helpful and the location could not be beat. We had a wonderful week in a gorgeous place.

My wife and I had a wonderful time on our anniversary trip. This is the perfect place to relax and recharge. It's nice to hear the waves from our bedroom and walk 100 feet from the door to the ocean. Snorkeling and kayaking was great too! We couldn't have asked for a better host. Tulio was always accessible and gave great advice and recommendations. We also had great fun with H2O Water Taxi on a day trip to Culebrita and learning to wind surf with Lisa Penfield! Just an all around great trip!

We absolutely loved this property! The private beach, amazing snorkeling, and breathtaking sunsets were spectacular. We loved the more remote location - allowing us to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Yet we were a quick ride to town when we wanted to eat out. Snorkeling at nearby Melones was a favorite and taking the water taxi to Culebrita is definitely worth the trip. We went fishing with Captain David and caught plenty of grouper and a shark. Tulio is a wonderful host and has great recommendations. We did rent a golf cart and had fun exploring the island. If you’re looking for a laid back beach vacation with great snorkeling and privacy, this is an amazing spot. Thank you Tulio!

This property was the perfect island getaway! Tulio was a fantastic host, and the private beach was amazing! I learned to snorkel in the water of our private beach and enjoyed sitting on the beach watching the world go by! Thank you Tulio!

Beautiful island, great location, and amazing host. Tulio will be there for any heat you might have. He is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Gorgeous beach all to yourself with great snorkeling. Having only one bathroom was the only downside for us. Everything else was great.

Beautiful beach cottage right on the coast, with open common area and private A/C rooms. If you want to unwind and disconnect from hustle and bustle this is your spot. Gorgeous location, nicely maintained simple property that is all about connecting with nature. including the many mozzies--bring bug spray and bug repellent lamps. No TV, no internet and no fancy gadgets or luxury here but the chance to truly relax and be happy with the ocean, open sky and green trees. Tulio is an amazing host--very responsive and so kind. If you can--rent his kayaks and enjoy his stories! We loved every minute of our trip and recommend this house to all families.

Tulio the owner was extremely helpful with our planning even before we arrived. He met us at the airport to take us to the house and show us the town. the house is right on the water with crystal clear water. The kitchen and bathroom are downstairs with hammocks and eating areas where we spent most of our time. Cooking breakfast while looking out to the beach was a treat. The kitchen had everything you need to cook with. The upstairs rooms each have AC units so it cooled down quickly. The location to town is great. It was literally about a two minute ride to town on the golf cart. I would recommend the golf cart because the streets in town and parking at the market is tight. All the beaches are beautiful there. We went one day over to Culebrita island and it was awesome. We will hopefully be back again someday and would stay at Tulio's house again in a heartbeat.

We loved our stay at this beach house. Fantastic location with snorkeling right in your backyard. This house is clean and we'll maintained. The open air kitchen with hammocks was perfect for spending time with family and afternoon snoozing. The kitchen had everything one would want to cook meals. Tulio was a gracious host and made sure our transportation on the ferry was arranged in advanced. Our family loved our stay in Culebra! Some of the other places we considered were very run down and I am thankful we chose this property.

The house is nice enough although the beds and linens are definitely not deluxe and I found a few black hairs on the sheets which kind of grossed me out. Because the downstairs/kitchen is open to the elements you have to be fastidious about putting ALL food in refrigerator or the birds, cats, crabs, bugs, etc. will destroy it. The owner, Tulio, is helpful to the point of OVER helpful in some ways and less so in others. He talks a LOT, repeats himself, and doesn't take hints when you'd rather he leave than tell you MORE about Culebra's history when it's late, you're tired, have been traveling for almost a day, and really just want to sleep. My main gripe with Tulio was that when we booked the house we did so knowing we might have to change it but knew that we had four days to do so and that we would still have the requisite three days for our stay. Shortly after having booked it (less than an hour?) we discovered we couldn't get flights from San Juan and so decided to get there the next day. I called Tulio and asked for a refund for that one night. His response was dramatic and almost theatrical: he couldn't do the refund because it would be SO much trouble, a real HASSLE to go through VRBO to get our one night refunded as he'd already cashed in. He suggested we get the $350 (?) back in rentals of kayaks and paddle boards. I agreed to this arrangement only because I wanted to be cooperative and thought it would work out. Well, it rained much of the time we were there and we did not have opportunity to use the equipment. He was gone the entirety we were there and phone service is spotty at best so when I got back I asked for the refund of the night we did not use. His response? "If you think that renting a car and not driving it...would entitle you to a full refund, you are wrong!...that is not the way business is done in the real world..." He also claimed that the idea to pay for the equipment rental in lieu of a refund was my idea which is a falsity: how could I have known in advance that there was equipment to rent that would not be included with the rental? He had to tell me about it and at that point he suggested the exchange. Also, while it's close to the water you can't really access the water well because of the dead and dying coral all about.

3 generations of my family spent a little more than a week at the yellow house the last week of March. It was glorious. It is a challenge to describe the experience since the house reflects the island in that it marches to the beat of a different drummer – refreshingly so. The location was a treat for all of us and that’s quite a statement with an age range in the group from 13 to “north of 75.” A quick and very incomplete listing of the charms of the house would include: backyard coral reef, 10 minute walk downtown, 15 minute walk to Milkas (grocery store), hammocks, hammocks, hammocks, blender, iguanas, pelicans…Did we miss TV? No. Did we miss cell service? No. Did we live and breathe tropical charm? Yes! Was driving kept to an absolute minimum? Yes! (Which helps maximize the absorption of the tropical charm mentioned earlier). A small side note however, if you are over 6’ 2” (~190 cm) the support beams for the upper floor will be something to look out for when walking about the lower floor. In all seriousness, we would be remiss to review the charms of the house without mentioning our host Tulio. His extensive knowledge and experience regarding the island’s history and natural history made our trip significantly more interesting than what our three guidebooks had provided. Before we arrived he answered all of our questions, then he met us at the airport, led us to the house, and gave us the low-down on the house/town/beaches/natural history/grocery shopping etc. That kind gesture took the uncertainty out of our arrival and allowed us to settle in (to paradise) immediately. He also helped get us a trip out to Culebrita! We spent our time at the house downstairs, only venturing upstairs to sleep. The only detail perhaps of interest to others about that sleeping situation was that we could sleep with the doors open until the last 2 nights when a mosquito hatch from the rain that preceded our arrival forced the doors shut. Otherwise we snorkeled, cooked, hammocked (it’s a verb now!), blendered, and were consistently stunned by the jaw-dropping Caribbean tropical beauty right there in front of us. Exploring the island was certainly a treat, however we never felt we were missing out on something when we returned to the house. It is that beautiful and comfortable. Like Culebra itself, this house is greater than its parts (which are impressive on their own). This isn’t a tropical resort with turn-down maid service. This is a much rarer commodity – Paradise.

This is the perfect beach front house. If you dont mind cooking and enjoying the company you came with. You can snorkle right at the beach. Lots of iguanas to watch and hermit crabs crawl around, so watch your step. I feel very relaxed after spending 5 nights here. I hesitated writing this because I dont want this secret perfect place to get to popular. You can also drive or walk to the closest big beach. Beautiful, just beautiful beach cabin.
