Good
The house is in a quite remote location. Though not far from the main road, but at least 8km from the nearest shop. The very steep path down from the road probably cannot be negociated without a 4x4. If you arrive by bus, drop off at the Restaurante Ventana del Golfo, the entrance is just some 50m further down the road. All rooms are very clean and spacious, the high wood ceilings only add to this. In the very well equipped kitchen we did find every tool one could possibly need for preparing the meals but you have to bring all supplies, even salt etc. The layout of the house is not very clear fom the pictures. It's u-shaped away from the terrace with the large eating/living room taking 2/3 of the front part and the other 1/3 to the left by one bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen is in the right wing to the back and fully open to the main room. The other bedroom/bathroom is separated in the left wing to the back and reachable via the inner court. Down in the immense and well kept garden is a new place near the beach with a roof on pillars and a few hammocks, it's a wonderful place to relax. The water on the beach is very calm and safe to swim and it teems with edible fish of all sizes. Sadly we couldn't get hold of fishing gear but saw a couple of very friendly locals catch a lot of small bonitos. A canoe or two to use on the golfo would have been a very nice feature to explore the surroundings. At low tide you have to walk through a lot of mud in the water before it's deep enough to swim but on high tide it's ok. There is almost no cell service around the house and no Wifi and I consider this a feature, not a bug :)
Before arrival the caretaker can exclusively be reached via Whatsapp which we weren't really aware of, so it took us some time to track him down with the help of the local people. The key was on the door, but again, we didn't know. Although the two bedrooms are spacious and comfortable there is no decent bedding for a 5th or 6th person except the couches in the main room which is a pity in a house this large. It didn't bother us a lot that there is no hot water, but it could probably be fixed with the usual electrically heated shower heads if the electric grid wasn't so shaky. As the running water comes from a small stream nearby it's a bit muddy while it rains and not drinkable, even when boiled before. As this water also flows though the pool there is no need for a pump etc. The only real annoyance was one of the caretakers dogs. Although it was absolutely friendly it wouldn't ever leave us alone day or night and if ever there was the wildlife everybody seems to have encountered here, the dog did make sure it stayed away. After a day we got asked if the dog was an problem, we said yes and nothing happened although the caretaker promised to do something about it. (No we didn't feed the dog or did anything else that could have persuaded it we wanted it there.) In the end this was the only place we visited in CR with hardly more wildlife than a hotel in central San Jose.

Exceptional
A prepayment was requested, which was not quite clear from the booking conditions. Thanks to the helpfulness of the owner, it was resolved satisfactorily.

This place is an adventure
The plants, the flowers, the wildlife, the peaceful atmosphere, the view. The bouquets with fresh flowers! Definitely THE place where we came into close contact with nature. So many animals around. The first night was a real adventure. Toads and bats are surrounding the house. The noises were absolutely new to us. We loved that feeling!
I’m not a big fan of cold showers. Mattresses could be thicker. Pool, used by toads at night, would need a daily maintenance and a pump.

Nice house with great views.
Amazing view from the terrace, house is nice. Grounds are beautiful. Very close to the beach which you have to yourself.
The pool could have been cleaner. The circulation pump didn't work. Front door didn't lock from inside, although I don't think security is a problem in the area.
