Staff excellent and setting is fabulous

Surrounded by only trees with few houses, it was quiet.

The indoor furniture looked shabby and dirty. The bathroom amenities were meager as well. Overall, it gave an old and rundown impression. The towels appeared worn out, and despite being washed, faint stains remained. The room was small, and the overall facilities seemed to be a mix of private and farm-like areas, with tools scattered around in a haphazard manner. It didn't give a welcoming atmosphere for guests. I have visited Sri Lanka over 40 times, but to be honest, spending 50,000 rs for one night is not worth it. There are plenty of better hotels available in Sri Lanka at this price point. Since it was my first time staying in this area, I thought choosing one of the most expensive hotels in the area would be a safe bet, but it turned out to be a typical case of a bad decision. Even at 25,000 rs per night, it still feels expensive.

The hotel and staff were great. Very friendly and sorted our safari, which was also brilliant. The location is amazing!

Kalu's Hideaway is a comfortable, spacious hotel set within lovely gardens with a beautiful pool. It's a great base for elephant safaris in Udawalawe national park. The hotel is quite, clean and well-looked after with good size rooms. It's worth noting that safaris are either 0600-0900 or 1500-1800 (which I think is probably universal across all hotels in this area) so you can plan your stay accordingly as there isn't much else to do apart from the safari (other than lounging around the pool!)

The great design of the hotel is very matching to the surrounding. Very quiet place, nice pool, friendly stuff. We stayed for 2 nights- and would highly recommend it if you want to visit the Uda Walawe National Park.

Kalu’s was the best place that we stayed while we were in Sri Lanka. We booked for three nights which was perfect with our two year old. The hotel arranged a safari and we saw so many elephants including a herd of around 30 with babies. We also went to the elephant transit home and they dropped us off and picked us up. The service was exceptional and the staff were so friendly towards our little boy. The infinity pool was gorgeous and we loved relaxing there and hearing all of the birds.

Nothing.

We had a nice time there, we were even lucky to meet Kalu and his lovely wife who helped us enormously by taking our 1,5 year old babyboy for half an hour and walking with him around. The place is not ideal for little children but otherwise it was very relaxing. Both me and my husband had a massage in the spa, but we were not impressed, it was a very average massage. The breakfast also average. But lunch was pretty good.

Missing facilities for children, it wouldn't take much to do a kids corner or playroom there.

Quiet. They upgraded us for our honeymoon 😃

a few bugs but that comes hand in hand with staying in wildlife! drinks and vegetarian food were a little limited.
