Luxury accommodation in historic setting, a green oasis close to the historic centre

This place ist very special for many reasons: a beautiful building in a wonderful garden, a pool that is tucked away with shade from the trees, and a trustful atmosphere, created by the hosts, that almost made us feel at home. I can’t praise the breakfast enough. Maria often read my mind when offering us just what we needed in this moment, especially when traveling with an 8 months old baby. This is a perfect starting point to explore Guimaraes, it only takes a couple of minutes on foot to the historic center.

Perfect location close to medieval historic centre only 8- 10 mins walk away. Tranquill country house set in own landscaped garden with a lovely secret modern swimming pool and historic garden features. Spacious rooms throughout with art deco style furnishings with a real sense of stepping back in time to the 1920's,comfortable and very relaxing. Super breakfast changing each day including variety fresh fruits, cooked meats, cheeses and breads and pastries.

There was nothing we did not like.

This is a lovely house on a beautiful property. It felt peaceful each time we entered through the gate, leaving the city noise behind, yet it was close to the historical center with the castle, palace, museums - all we wanted to see within a 15-minute walk. Easy to get to many restaurants and pastalarias. Great hosts! Maria served a wonderful breakfast each morning with eggs, sausage, ham, cheeses, fresh breads, yogurt, and fruits - I could go on. There is a pool, though we didn't use it. The grounds are lovely. Our room was spacious with a view of the gardens and an additional sitting room. The marbled bathroom is large and elegant, with a huge tub. Very quiet!

Lovely old family run villa with beautiful grounds - an oasis of peace and calm. Our room was huge with a separate sitting area and nice modern bathroom. The building may look like an art-deco museum but the facilities are great. Once you've got there, just park the car and it's a short walk into town. There are even a couple of local cafes and snack bars just down the street. It's a B&B set-up and the breakfasts are legendary - rightly so. You'll not need lunch! A great base for our first few days in northern Portugal

It was a rather hard old bed - and the property is quite difficult to find, lost among modern buildings. Look for the very lovely old gate

We stayed in a beautiful big room on the main floor of the house which had a lounge area, bedroom and bathroom all with high ceilings and traditional decor. It was very comfortable with extra towels and bedding available in the room... but it was twin beds. The breakfast was amazing - a real spread on the large dining room table laid out just for us. Breads, pastries, meats, cheeses, homemade jams, fruits, tea, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice... so much we couldn’t get through half of it! Our friendly host gave us great instructions on how to get around and was so attentive to all our needs. The old town is an easy 10 minute walk away and a large supermarket is located just down the street. This was our second visit to Guimaraes- the town is lovely and you can spend a day just strolling the streets and enjoying the restaurant/cafe-filled squares. If you have a bit more time and perhaps have a car, we’d also recommend visiting the monastery-turned-hotel which also has great views over the city. We would absolutely stay here again - maybe in summer so we could take advantage of the pool! We were sad our stay was so short as we’d have loved to explore the grounds a bit more.

There’s nothing not to like about this place unless all you want is a stark corporate hotel room. Then this is not the place for you!
