stunningly recovered machiya, short walk to the centre of Gion. Absolutely gorgeous place, wish I’d stayed longer. The Bath was amazing and the property felt very zen. located on a cute street.
the futons and pillows were very thin. for someone used to sleeping on futons it’s probably fine. the street noise was very loud in the morning, as the bedroom window faces the street. it’s the style of building though, and we were prepared for that.

There is a river stream directly outside the house. Very therapeutic to sit by the river.

beautifully renovated old Machiya in very good location
if you are not used to total floor living and sleeping plus an outdoor bathroom then you might want to rethink your stay

Beautiful house, looks exactly like the pictures. Loved the beautiful garden and how warm and comfortable it was. Also in a great location!
As it is a traditional house the walls are thin so we could hear noise from the next place, but the staff were extremely helpful in that regard - and it was to be expected!

Having the toilet and other bathroom so far apart is quite awkward.
