Large comfortable apartment with a nice size bedroom, good kitchen facilities a nice lounge area with a nice sofa a TV and even found some channels in English and some film channels where you could restart films that were already on. There is even a Bluetooth speaker in the room so I took mine for no reason. The balcony has a lovely view over the sea and local area. You definitely need a car here and parking is on the road outside. It is halfway up a steep hillside. The local supermarket in calheta we found very good. This is only about a 5 minute drive away and there are a number of restaurants in calheta on the front. There is one restaurant within walking distance which took us about 15 minutes down a dimly lit path and quite a few steps and through a banana plantation, all good fun though! For the west side of the island we found this location great, only about 20 mins to the top of the island. A very quiet relaxing place to stay, perfect for us.

Nothing, this place suited us perfectly, but if you wanted a beach within walking distance look elsewhere.

From the moment we made the booking until leaving back home we got full support form the owners, Helen and Christoph. They were very responsive whenever we had a question or needed something before and during our stay. Not to mention the very nice welcome basket with fruits and wine they left for us because we arrived very late. The best part of the apartment is surely the balcony. The sun rises exactly in front of us and we can see it from the bedroom. It is a huge balcony. The Calheta Marina is just a five minutes drive away and there you can find restaurants and a local supermarket. The roads are very well signalized and the access is relatively easy. You just need to be careful with all the hills and steep roads. We considered it to be a very good apartment taking into acocunt all the facilities and the great location. There was even a common barbecue area that could be used. We would totally come back and actually we already referred it to some friends.

As the windows/doors are very wide, I would suggest to have dark curtains in the bedroom. Some people have difficulties in sleeping while you can still see the city light outside or when the sun rises very early and you might want to sleep out. For us it was not a problem since we were waking up very early to go hiking but I think it is worth mentioning as things to improve. Another small point to consider is maybe having a fan in the bedroom, as there is no air-conditioning. For us we just opened the doors to the balcony and it was ok, but being aware that mosquitos or other type of flies could come in the room. Maybe this is already done during summer time when for sure the island must be very hot but worth considering to have it available during other seasons as well. One thing I should mention though is that we didn't ask for it during our stay, so maybe there was a fan somewhere in the storage but we just liked to have the fresh air from outside.

Beautiful, clean and spacious. We’ve had the bottom apartament which was just perfect - the Terrace was big and the view was amazing. Everything was true to the offer, owners were very helpful, always willing to answer any questions we had. No doubt we’d like to be back! Highly recommended :)

A mosquito net would be nice at bedroom, so that window could be open whole night.

It was absolutely amazing. Place and view is gorgeous and host is really kind. Kitchen was well equipped and it was pleasure to stay in here. Definitely recomended, dont even hesitate and book it :)

We stayed in the captains apartment. It is even better than the photos with a new sofa and huge bed. The apartment is light, airy and spacious with lovely views of the sea and valley. It’s really pretty at night when the lights come on along the valley. This apartment in on the lower level so you go down about 20 steps with a good handrail. Then you are completely private and have a big balcony terrace that even includes a small garden area with bright flowers. You can unlock a door at the end of the garden to access a communal garden area and bbq space which gets the sun later in the evening. Being a little lower we found we were more protected from the wind than the 2 smaller apartments above. We loved it here, the owners were lovely and left us fruit and veg from their neighbours mid stay. We were welcomed with wine and a big bowl of fruit. Car parking is easy on the road right outside the house. The neighbourhood is quite, the harbour area with supermarket, ATM and plenty of restaurants is 5 minutes drive away. Wifi was excellent.

Beautiful views, very friendly hosts who prepared a little food for us because we came in really late at night and offered to help us out with our rental car. Very large television in the living room, free wifi, a large bowl of fruit and a free bottle of wine!

We booked the extra-large double bed and -so we thought- the biggest apartment but we got very uncomfortable twin beds. The apartment was clean but needs a little renewing. Not enough towels, lack of some simple facilities like tissues, paper towels or a few more rolls of toilet paper. The sofa in the living room was very uncomfortable and needs a good cleaning.

We could not spend time on the terrace because of cucaraches. We had to sleep with closed windows because of them and the spiders, and the apartment doesn't have conditioner so nights were terrible. Twice we met cucaraches inside, don't know how they came to the kitchen and to the bedroom. We were surprised that with such a high rating on booking there will be such a problem with cucaraches and spiders, and there was no comments before regarding this. Sorry, but we can't recommend this apparentment.

The flat was beautiful, modern, clean and quiet, with all the facilities/appliances needed for a longer stay (it felt like home!). The view was stunning - my partner and I spent every morning sipping coffee on the terrace with a breathtaking ocean view. The location was great - very close to the Calheta beach (drive), bars/retaurants/shops (walk/drive) and some exciting levada walks (drive). The amazing hosts, Helen and Chris, were definitely the highlight of our stay. They were very responsive, approachable and thoughtful. Bringing us a huge bottle of water on a hot day, just because they thought we might be thirsty, was only one of their many gestures that made us feel welcome and special. They also offered some local insider tips and introduced us to the local community - we ended up hanging out with the locals and visiting some great places where local people go. One evening, the hosts introduced us to the local paragliders, who actually made us try paragliding the following day: incredible experience with the best views of Madeira you can get. We'll be back :)

Everything was absolutely amazing! The view from apartament is spectacular!! It was the best apartment we have ever slept in. Helen & Chris are super helpful people. If you've found this offer, don't look for another one - really :)
