The host family is very welcoming, the home has so much history and makes you feel a part of something special. It was an amazing experience especially with the host sharing all her knowledge on the local area and the food that was made for us, foraged from the mountain. An amazing experience that will not be forgotten .

Food was incredible and delicious ,they really put heart into details of the meal! Made us feel really warm in the first day of the new year. The house is really old but well maintained! Very quite around the neighbourhood if anyone needs a peaceful stay, definitely recommend to just feel how simple life can be and lovely time with the host!

We had the most amazing stay with this wonderful family. The location is out of the way but well worth the trip as it is a stunning area with beautiful mountains and forest. Chie’s cooking is incredible! It was a once in a lifetime experience to share meals with the family - although, we will be back again! Also had the best sleep of my life on the very comfortable beds.

very traditional house made over 150 years ago in a beautiful part of the countryside. hosts were exceptionally kind - as were their children and welcoming. perfect scenic stop between takayama and shirakawa-go. beautiful shrine, most beautiful cherry blossom we have seen and scenic lake with fish. wonderful and comfortable stay - highly recommended!

The service was exceptional. The family was very friendly and generous who was attentive to detail; they always looked after our comfort. Although the house is old in age, it was very charming, has a lot of character, and is equipped with modern amenities. The food was fantastic; the host is an excellent cook! And, the children were adorable. You can tell a lot of energy and love went into the house.

Wonderful experience here. I have never seen such a house like that so far, The place requires you to have a car or a bike but is in the middle of a really calm valley with the nature and the rice fields. But the best are the hosts and their lovely family. I felt at home like having 2 adoptive parents and 2 little sisters. I discussed a lot, I played a lot and we had an awesome dinner around an irori (traditional Japanese fireplace). So warmful, so unique, so human.

I would guess for pure night-staying, it's a bit on the pricey side but you go there to experience something. Only for people with their own cars/motorcycles as it's a bit remote located from Takayama and I guess the taxi would be very expensive.
