Carmel is one of our favorite towns in America. It was great to explore this slice of paradise without having to drive anywhere. We parked our car for 3 days and walked to all of our favorite shops and the beach. Thank you for making our visit memorable. This suite was clean and had everything we needed. We had a nice return to the Madden Suite for a second year. It was clean, spacious, and a great central location. This year the hot water in the kitchentte was not working which made doing dishes difficult. The management company was professional and prompt, but the issue was never resolved during our stay. The WIFI then went out for a day unexpectedly, which was inconvenient, but ultimately resolved. Lastly, the kitchenette and all of the kitchen supplies are great, though the reality is that it's very hard to cook and clean in that area (no place for dishes to dry). There is very little counter space and inconsistent kitchen tools. Best to order in lunch and dinner.

We honeymooned in Carmel 38 years ago and have been back about 30 times!! Carmel is one of a kind and we LOVE it! This year we decided to try some place different than a hotel. Walking around Carmel last year, we found the office of Sanctuary Vacation Rentals and walked in. Wonderful staff helped us view a few of the rentals in Carmel and we picked The Madden Suite. Ideal location, clean with lots of room, compared to a hotel! We are trying to book a stay there for next year, but they don't have the rates available let?!?!?! We are going back! Hope that tells you want you wanted to know! Just don't take our time slot!!!!!!

This unit was perfectly adequate for our stay in Carmel and we appreciated the property managers efforts to make us comfortable. If you want to stay in the bustle of Carmel, but still have a bit of quiet. This place is wonderful.

If you want to park the car and walk, this is the prefect Carmel experience. All the places we had made reservations for were 5 minutes away; all the brunch places were 5 minutes away and the beach was a 10-minute walk. Fully stocked kitchen and the wine and cheese with crackers when we arrived was a nice touch. Bring a Duraflame if you wish, the fireplace is operational. Next time we have out of state guests, we will definitely try to book this place. Xtra Bonus Points: Go down the stairs, take a left, go through the passage and you will stumble upon a perfect pub. Thank you for a great experience.

We were 4 people. the walls don't close to the ceiling so it was noisy if people weren't all asleep at once. The little space heaters didn't provide enough heat and were clicking and ticking through the night. Didn't see how to use the fireplace.

Pretty much everything was good, the cheese in the fridge, the Pinot Noir and cracker on the counter, plus the organic coffee were all a very nice touch! Not having designated parking was difficult. The weather was cold, the big crack in the front door made it hard for the place warm up. The first night we were freezing, but the next day a very nice gentleman brought us two extra blankets. Service was amazing, we felt very welcomed!

Vintage Carmel property in an excellent location for walking in downtown Carmel. The management company is well organized and responsive. Weather was cool for our weekend stay, so the small electric wall heaters were marginally effective in heating adequately.

Our stay at the Madden Suite was great! Once we found it... tucked down the alley, behind the sushi place Toro, we were greeted by a cozy little apartment. The wood burning fireplace was wonderful, but didn't draft terribly well, which might require opening a window or door a bit to help it out. Although on a cold winter night, that's a tough double edged sword to play with. The beds were cozy and comfortable too, but the best feature, is that you're right in the middle of Carmel. If I were going back to Carmel, I'd stay there again though, and recommend it.

While our overall experience was very pleasant and the location was convenient we found it difficult to get our luggage up the steep stairs. Access is tricky due to the lack of nearby parking. A great plus is that it is dog friendly.

Being able to park once for the weekend and just walk around town, to the beach, etc was extremely beneficial. More time experiencing & enjoying the vacation and less time trying to manage a car parking/driving situation. Awesome location! That is what this place has going for it first and foremost. The accommodation itself was perfect for two couples. Just enough room without having any to spare. Marty and the staff at the sushi place downstairs fell in love with our well-mannered, obedient and extremely cute 'RCA' puppy Miles. The only Con's I could possibly come up with is that both bedrooms should have a mirror for prepping outside of the bathroom, an opaque shower curtain so that more than one person could use the bathroom at a time, and the kitchenette is difficult to prep a lot of food or wash a lot of dishes without more counter space. But those con's are really stretching it, the overall weekend was a 5+++ experience! Thank you!!

This was our second year staying at the Madden Suite. The location is perfect and the unit is charming. However, I noticed the quality of the accommodations were not the same as the first year, mostly in terms of bedding, especially the pillows. It seems like a minor thing but I keep getting requests to fill out the survey so there it is. The shower is also very awkward for anyone over 5‘10“. The water flies over the top of the very small glass barrier and also leaks underneath requiring use of a lot of towels to soak up the water. My biggest complaint, and the reason why we will not use sanctuary again, is their lack of communication and attention to detail. I requested the second bedroom be set up as two twins instead of one king and called a few days before just to confirm. When we arrived, it was still set up as a king so I reached out to the office to see if they can change it or at the very least send over sheets so we can do it ourselves. A very rude young man came by with new sheets saying the request was not in our contract. I told him if that was the case, I even followed up with a phone call to confirm a few days before our stay since the same thing happened last year. He asked who I spoke with. I did not remember her name, but I told him the date and time I called. He then told me that I should have remembered the person’s name and that buying new sheets is not fair to the owner. I told him that was ridiculous and he then roughly placed the sheets on the kitchen chairs and stormed out. The property rental sends texts saying if you have any questions, reply to this message which I did, but I never once received a text back. It is a very charming place to say, but I’ve had my fill of Sanctuary’s lack of communication and attention to detail so we will be looking for other accommodations for annual trip to Carmel.

The property was exactly as described. Parking is much easier than you think! Two blocks away to 24 hour on street parking. Missing items were quickly attended to by the Sanctuary staff. The shower is a little wonky....leaks water. But the beds are incredibly comfortable...towels, robes, everything you could need for your stay are included!!

Leaving the door open at night while ordering great sushi (from popular Toro restaurant below) perched from above with fire burning in a warm ambience was a highlight. Great beds and bedding too. Christmas in Carmel by the Sea
Perfect location for a weekend of walking eating and Christmas shopping A bit hidden by the courtyard of a Japanese restaurant, but the maitre d' was so friendly and helpful.
Definitely walk through the tiny secret entrance at the back of the courtyard to the patio of Hog's Breath Inn for an after dinner drink. **Important tip** if door dashing, use the address of Toro restaurant.

Super located quaint two bedroom apartment.
The unit was right in the heart of town, very clean and well appointed. Two good beds and linen. It was quiet, very quaint and rustic. Parking could be a problem but we were there in mid November and parked on the street in front of the unit. Would stay again for sure.

Perfect location
It was so much fun to be in the middle of town--the location couldn't have been better. We could walk to everything easily. The place was spotless and charming. I highly recommend!

Great place, just a bit hard to find if you don't know that you need to walk to the back of Toro sushi restaurant and go upstairs, and you're the first door on the left. The staff at the sushi restaurant are super friendly and helpful with your stay as well!

The apartment is quintessential Carmel. The exterior is something out of a storybook with the courtyard entrance and half door. The beds were super comfy. The place was spotless. The kitchenette was tight so not much cooking could be done but great for breakfast and coffee in the morning. It can be a little loud in the morning so we kept the windows closed. My only complaint is the lack of response via text messages from the rental company. If they use text messaging, they should have someone ready to respond. My text messages were also during business hours so no excuse there. Overall, a very lovely stay. We will be back.

The Madden Suite was very comfortable for our family of four. (We were thrilled we could have our dog with us too!) The location is incredible with great restaurants so close — loved the secret passage to Hog’sBreath and Toro has delicious sushi right downstairs! The kitchen is well-stocked, but we didn’t end up cooking much as the sink is tiny and there is no dishwasher. We were on vacation, so that was fine with us! The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. We found street parking pretty easily in the 2 hour spots. It worked out fine because we were out and about most days. We felt like locals exploring Carmel-by-the-Sea staying in this rental. Just what we were looking for!
