We were on bald head island for a wedding and this house was in a perfect spot! The owners were extremely friendly and provided us with a ton of information to ensure we had a fantastic weekend! I would recommend this place to anyone!

Surf's Up is in a great location, very comfortable downstairs living area with screened in porch with seating area and a table that catches a nice breeze in the morning - had breakfast there every morning and a few dinners out there as well. There's an upstairs balcony off the master bedroom that has a great ocean view. My son really enjoyed the unattached extra room out back, with it's own bathroom, a private retreat. The overall house layout is vertical. The bedrooms are nice, spacious, comfortable, but they are all upstairs on the second or third floor so you need to be able to negotiate stairs. There's a 1/2 bathroom on the main floor downstairs, a double bathroom off the master bedroom on the second floor, and a standard bathroom next to the second bedroom on the second floor that is shared by whoever is on the third floor. We didn't realize until we got there that the building is actually a duplex, but we heard nothing from the neighbors who shared the adjacent unit (we did meet them, they were very nice). There was lots of beach equipment, including beach chairs in very good condition and a beach umbrella. The golf carts were fine - not the extra slow ones we have sometimes had. There's easy access to the south beach via a boardwalk. Very important to us was communication with Karen, who we texted several times during our stay and who answered any questions we had within just a few minutes! Not accustomed to that! Highly recommend this Vrbo!

Perfect house for our quick spring break trip!

Perfect spot for our family

Mixed experience. The good: Grateful to have this house as an option in this price range on Bald Head. The beds were comfortable and clean. The coffee pot was missing and when I reached out to owner, she had someone bring a new coffee pot within an hour. The house is decorated nicely. Across street from beach with views from master bedroom. The not so great: Messaged owner through VRBO two days prior to checkin to inquire about checkin process. The morning of checkin I still had not heard back and messaged them again with no response. So I had to contact VRBO to help me get in contact with owner. (Experience with VRBO customer service was fantastic). They couldn’t get through to owner at first but finally made contact with owner and she explained she had a medical procedure and got behind, so this may be a one off but nevertheless the experience gave us anxiety that something happened to our reservation. Once we got her phone number, communication was no longer an issue. I think they spray all the patio furniture during the cleaning process which left all the cushions wet but I suppose it’s nice to have them cleaned- you just won’t be able to use first day or so. The fridge/freezer had a terrible fish smell. I’m sure this was due to previous renters but maybe fridge needed a thorough disinfectant cleaning to rid of smell (not just a baking soda box). We ran out of toilet paper and when I requested more, owner told me they only supply first roll. However, it wasn’t even a full roll when we checked in, it was only 1/4 full. If this is the rule they follow, they should leave the partial roll but also leave a full unused roll for guests. It seems petty not to provide a full roll when you pay almost $2000 for 3 nights. Two golf carts provide were good to have. One golf cart is slower and brakes funky. You have to be sure to park the golf carts on the correct side as chargers go with specific golf cart. This was noted on a piece of tape on the wall of garage. It would be nice to have this communicated in either a message or in a binder in the house of useful info so it is not missed. Also of note, this is a townhouse, not a house. It shares a wall with another unit. We didn’t have any issues with the neighbors but just was not expecting it as it is not noted in listing.

Our first time to bald head island. This place is great. You can see the ocean from the porch. Beds are so comfortable. Looking forward to planning another trip to bald head.

Surf's Up was a good option for us. Appreciated the close beach access. Beach chairs and beach towels provided were very helpful. Upon arrival the property had not been cleaned so that was disappointing as we were prepared to jump into vacation mode, prepare our family dinner and have a glass of wine. Property manager was very responsive and had cleaning team return but they didn't arrive until 8:45 and didn't leave until 10:45. We couldn't unpack as we wanted them to be able to clean kitchen, rooms etc. I'm sure this isn't the norm and our cleaning fee was refunded due to the delay. The screen on the porch was repaired promptly as it had significant tears from the storm. The golf carts worked well. Once we got unpacked and settled the next day our stay was lovely. The weather was beautiful. This is a quiet place off season which was absolutely perfect for us but not the place if you're looking for lots of action. All in all a great visit.

We so enjoyed our week at Surf's Up - we were a party of 6 with 4 adult and 2 older kids, so the layout was perfect to allow us to have lots of together time but also space when needed. Our kids loved the top floor and having their own hang out space! Master bedroom views of the ocean are beautiful! Sitting and reading on the screened porch with the ocean sounds was one of my favorite parts. House was clean and prepared, beds are all comfy with good linens, quality towels, great beach gear, well-equipped kitchen and two golf carts made the week a breeze. Owners are responsive and easy to do business with. We've stayed at several properties on BHI and we will definitely come back to Surf's Up again! Any damage to this home sustained from the hurricane of last fall is repaired - I think we were the first to stay after all was completed and it looks great.

It’s pretty convenient between the clubs and the market. Had a hiccup with the cleaning service when we checked in but the owner handled it and everything was cool! The crofter, which is where my husband and I stayed, could use some better sheets. The AC in the house and crofter worked great. We joined the Shoals Club for 3 days and BHI Club for 3 days. Shoals had cooler teenagers and nicer pool. BHI Club seemed more family friendly. There were several beach chairs and a couple of bicycles. We left a puzzle there if you feel like it. There were 10 if us and we can’t wait to go back

We had trouble with golf carts leaving us stranded, until we realized the batteries were all dry. We filled them with water and then worked on charger to get it working. After that transportation went a lot smoother. Bought groceries, only to find out some was moldly when we opened packages. But, despite those issues the stay was great. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!!

Surf's up is a delightful beach home perfectly located on Bald Head Island. There were two families staying with 3 kids aged 13-9. We all had plenty of room. Loved the 3rd floor and the crofter. We arranged for another family traveling with us to stay on Scotch Bonnet nearby. It's a great neighborhood and the most relaxing vacation spot you will find. The owners were extremely attentive and communicated well. Seamless vacation. Just the way you want it!

Great property with well equipped kitchen and great porches. This is the second time we've stayed there and we still love it. Great area out back for grilling

This was a great house for our large group of girls to stay for a wedding. It is right on the beach! Our only issues were the golf carts. One stopped working and both were extremely slow to the point where we were constantly passed by other drivers. Otherwise, it was perfect for us :) Thanks!

Stayed at this home for a girls trip and it was just what we needed. Lots of space and very clean. The crofter is very cozy and you can watch the sunset from the beach which is a short walk away. Would love to stay here again.

This is my favorite house we have stayed at on BHI - perfect for large groups looking to socialize with the open floor plan (kitchen spills into dining room spills into living room) and the HUGE porch, much of which is screened with an ocean view. It is tastefully decorated and stocked with the pots & pans you'll need in the kitchen. There are also bedroom options with lots of privacy - one does not have as much privacy in the loft, but can be lots of fun as well. There were even enough bathrooms for 10 people! Highly recommend a stay here!

We've stayed at Surf's Up for 2 years in a row and loved it! We filled up the house with 12 people and were comfortable for the whole week. (In-laws included). The owners were responsive to any of our needs or questions. The location is perfect in Flora's Bluff, which is the best place to be on the Island. Located on a cul de sac I felt like we were tucked away in our own little world and just steps from the beach. We have been coming to BHI for almost 17 years and this has been our favorite home so far!

I don't know what happened to the golf carts between July, the last reviewer's comments and our stay in the middle of August. The first golf cart died while we were out and had to be towed for repairs. The second one had a split front tire . The owners had a new one put on, but that cart also died while we were at the other end of the island. The location is great as far as going to the beach, can't get much closer. The house is roomy, kitchen well stocked with dishes etc. the ice maker in the refrigerator doesn't work, nor does the large ice maker next to the refrig. Bathrooms need updating, curtain rod in the master bedroom was coming off the wall. Carpets badly need cleaning or replacing. Fire alarm started "chirping" at 2 am, no replace,ENT battery to be found, a number of lamps had burned out bulbs. We have stayed every year at a different home on Bald Head and I would say for paying the same price you can probably find a home that is better maintained. The owners response was, you can buy ice, we usually go down after the season and do maintenance. I expected everything to be clean and in working order

We stayed here the week of July 4th (two couples and 5 teenagers) and we had plenty of room. The location was great, mid-island with great access to the beach. It had everything we needed to enjoy a worry free week at the beach. The golf carts were in really good shape with batteries that stayed charged the whole day, even with a lot of use (we had friends whose cart always died by sundown). It may not seem like a big deal but it really is. I was amazed at how well the AC worked, it was extremely hot that week and the house was almost too cool sometimes. The home is a duplex but you would almost never know it was, from the inside or out. We never once heard our neighbors.

The home was well appointed and had all the essentials needed to "beach" and cook. We cooked the whole time we were there. The access to the beach made it easy for all family members to use at their leisure. We love BHI and are planning future vacations.
