Can't say enough about the uniqueness of this property. Amazing views, amazing drive to the property over the beach and the horses were present almost daily during our eight day stay. My daughter had all of her birthday wishes come true with horses grazing outside in the mornings. Great place for beach and horse lovers alike.

Loved staying at the Pony Tail and didn't want to leave. Great location. Horses came right up to the house. Morning coffee watching the sunrise every day. Getting back and forth to the house was easier than anticipated. Host was responsive. Highly recommend, 5 stars all the way.

The Pony Tale was everything we expected. The view was fab and the ponies were around everyday. Our host April was the best. We had a few small issues with a couple small appliances that she ordered new ones and had them sent to us the very next day. Communication with her was immediate with responses. I wish the wind hadn't been blowing so hard and it could have been warmer but we can't control the weather and still had a great time. We are planning to come back next year and I pray and hope April will still be our host. This house is perfect for anyone that wants a view of the Atlantic and privacy. We were bothered by no one. It's just under 3 miles on the 4x4 basically a 10 to 15 minute drive to the concrete, I just loved it! Driving the beach sand was a new experience for us and it was just fine in our 4x4 Ram truck. All in all I have no complaints so check it out and "Seas the Day" at the Pony Tale.

Great views! Saw wild horses and dolphins off the back deck. It was a very comfortable house, perfect for getting away and checking out for a while. The owner communicated everything perfectly and timely, right down to the directions to the house.

The Pony Tale provided the perfect setting to observe the Wild Mustangs up close while taking in views of the Ocean. The Widows Watch or Roof walk made the perfect addition for finding the horses, especially with binoculars. The house allowed for everyone to have their personal space while the open concept upstairs encouraged family interaction while cooking and playing games. Each room having their own access to a deck and view of the ocean was a added perk. Having the private pool and Hot Tub on property was a relaxing alternative to the ocean, perfect with 2 children and taking a night swim or two. Our family used the pool and hot tub daily and only added to the relaxed atmosphere. Be sure to load up on supplies and groceries before checking into the house- getting in and out of the sand road took a little longer than we had expected but was always an adventure. Be prepared for climbing steps at The Pony Tale House, but I can say after conquering all those steps for a week, I felt a bit stronger. Our overall experience was fantastic and we plan to return to The Pony Tale for many years to come.

The host April was great, starting with reserving the house and through our stay. She answered all our questions and gave us enough information to know what to expect as this was our first time staying on the sand. I felt confident that she would address any issues that may arise during our stay.
We had 4 adults and 7 older teenagers. There was plenty of room for everyone to sleep and we had enough bathrooms. Of great importance for me was how clean and organized the house was. I immediately felt comfortable as the house was clean and decorated nicely.
The full size laundry washing machine and dryer were nice to have. There were plenty of board games, a card table, and corn hole which we all enjoyed. The pool and outside shower were very nice too. The grill looked like it may be new this year and we used it a few nights during our stay. The kitchen had everything we needed during our stay.
The views from the decks on the house were amazing. We saw horses walking around every day. We watched the sunrise early in the morning over the ocean, then in the evening could see the sunset from the widows walk even higher up, there was room to sit and relax for our entire group on the widows walk.
We would love to return to the Pony Tale for another vacation.

Everything was great
The house was a perfect size for 12 of us. The kitchen was well stocked. The access to the beach was easy. April was very responsive and helpful the entire trip. Everything was great.

Graduation Present and getaway
For our son's graduation, this was part of his gift. We took him along with some friends and family to the beach. Perfect location and we loved sitting on the deck and watching the wild ponies. We parked on the beach most days and fished too. Accommodations were perfect and the communication was the best. We want to come back to the 4x4 drive and hopefully back to the Pony Tale. Thank you so much!

Stunning
This was our first time in the outer banks and the Pony Tail set the bar extraordinarily high for all future trips, of which we hope there will be many! The house was in a perfect location on the 4x4 beach. We saw dolphins each morning at sunrise and throughout the days and saw the horses every day! The views from the home are breathtaking and the beach was not crowded, even on the busiest day we were there. The house was clean and checkin was so easy. Communication was very clear and they went above and beyond to make sure our stay was a great one! The kitchen is well stocked and the toy shed is also filled with beach and pool toys, beach chairs, boogie boards, a beach umbrella and much more.

What I needed.
We spent time with our family at this house for thanksgiving. The kitchen was fully equipped. The house was beautifully done. The view was breath taking in the mornings and in the evens (who am I kidding the entire time). Communication with the property manager was the best I've ever experience with renting a house. April was helpful and very kind.

This house just kept going! There was plenty of room for my entire family. There were so much to do at the house that we barely left. We got to observe the beautiful horses right out back and wake up to the ocean every morning. The pool toys were perfect to take to and from the beach as well.

Beautiful & Spacious House
We really enjoyed our stay at the Pony Tale! The house fit our group of 10 perfectly with each couple having their own bedroom and bathroom. The house was spacious, clean, and well-stocked. We enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and easy beach access. Sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking on the massive deck and we loved seeing the wild horses each day! I highly recommend this home for a large group.

House was spacious enough for everyone to have their own space yet gather to connect for dinner, movies and relaxing on the beautiful deck! Highly recommend this place! The wild horses greeted us our first morning which was so exciting! The beach is just gorgeous and so much less crowded than other parts of OBX we’ve stayed! Privacy, very clean and comfortable for everyone! We will be back!!

We loved the property. It was located at the right spot, perfect for great views for sunrise and sunsets. Horses and ponies visiting in the morning added the charm for us, specially kids. The property was clean and well equipped for a comfortable stay. April, the owner is very helpful and prompt in her responses whenever you needed her assistance.
We would recommend the property and love to stay again if gotten a chance in future.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom, and there is plenty of space divided among 3 levels. We enjoyed the pool and sitting on the large deck overlooking the beach. The property manager was very easy to communicate with and quickly resolved any issues that came up. We saw lots of horses, and enjoyed the beach driving!

Relaxing getaway with fantastic ocean views
Our family came to the Pony Tale for a relaxing getaway and we found it to be the perfect place. The house was beautiful and clean with plenty of space to spread out in. We loved sitting on the deck and watching the ocean as well as observing the wild ponies, foxes, and beautiful birds. We highly recommend you book the Pony Tale asap, because it’s going to be in high demand.

This house is simply amazing! Completely stocked with everything we needed during our stay. The drive on the beach to get to the house was a unique and fun experience and the location is perfect. Just a couple minutes walk and you’re on the beach. Pool was sparkling clean but the weather was a little to cold but we enjoyed the hot tub! Views from every angle were breathtaking..loved eating at the dining table while watching the dolphins. We were lucky enough to see the horses every day of our stay, including a foal! Communication with April was a breeze. She provided all the necessary info and was available if we had any issues. I would definitely recommend staying here. We can’t wait to come back!
