Exceptionally quiet except for the odd vehicle on a gravel road, which didn't bother us at all. Well appointed kitchen with lovely matching dishes, glasses and silverware. Lots of games and books to use while there. Very close to the national park. Two tables to choose to dine at. Bring a sweater and enjoy the one outside with glorious views of the back garden and wildlife. A place to relax on the lower ground if you like. We found it very snug but were pleased to have the fireplace to take off morning chill. We definitely would love to come back for another woods retreat.

This property is such a gem. We were impressed by most everything, including the location, cleanliness and amenities offered. This house has two outdoor patios, a fully stocked kitchen, bathrobes and a full sized washer and dryer. The owners also included a 3" binder full of house rules and workings, emergency information and ways to spend your time around the entire island. We were so impressed. While we had sun shiney days, we fell asleep to the pitter patter of rain and trees frogs chirping every night. It really was incredible!

The treehouse was absolutely adorable and so peaceful. You are serenaded with the most beautiful sounds of the forest that engulf this charming home. I loved the shower that made you feel like you were taking a shower outside with the gorgeous volcanic water washing over you and hearing the birds and frogs chirping away. If only every shower could be so refreshing. We were not prepared to not have screens on any of the windows and quickly learned that to keep the property cooler and bug free during our stay in August, we made sure to get back to property before dark to open up the windows and get cooler air in before darkness came and quickly shut all the windows otherwise the bugs and mosquitoes will rule the roost! Not a fan of waking up with bug bites all over. But once we learned this trick we couldn’t have been happier.

This tranquil and enchanting place in the middle of the trees is very unique and worth a visit. The views of the natural environment from all aspect of the house are beautiful. The inside was well appointed with nice hardwood floors. We had breakfast outside every day. The house is located next to Volcano NP and an easy drive to Hilo.

The proximity to Volcano National Park can’t be beat, and the solitude was just what we were looking for. Two-person tub with jacuzzi, indoor shower that feels like it’s out doors. Huge washer and dryer perfect for all those dirty hiking clothes and beach towels. A full kitchen allowed us to cook for ourselves, which is great since there aren’t a lot of eating out options near by, particularly Mondays and Tuesdays. That being said, do yourself a favor and hit the nearby Volcano Story (small market) first thing in the morning and grab a couple-four spam musubi. They were the best we had the whole trip. If you’re looking for a romantic mountain hideaway on the Big Island, Maile Tree House is what you’re looking for.

Staying here was a wonderful experience. Very convenient being just a few minutes away from Volcano National Park, with lots of privacy (feels like you're in the middle of a rainforest), some good restaurants nearby and everything we needed to cook and eat in as well. Beautiful and comfortable furniture and a unique layout including the separate area downstairs - which the teenagers liked having to themselves. Highly recommend.

Perfectly clean and appointed. We cooked every night and enjoyed the calming sounds of nature! No problems at all with entry or exit, loved the porch and yard. Convenient small market and restaurant down the road, too. Sleeping situation is 2 upstairs, 2 downstairs with no connecting inside stairwell, which was fine since our kids are older but something to note if you have littles. Great stay overall!

The property was beautiful…and had everything we needed plus more. My boys loved seeing the chickens running free and I loved my beautiful view from the kitchen window. It is a little off the beat and path, but even arriving after dark, we felt safe.

We spent a couple nights at the fancy hotel, but this comfort of home is so appreciated. We missed the details about the espresso machine but the coffee maker is great for our Ka’u coffee! We made our own breakfast to fuel our body for the long day of hiking and sun. Love it. Nice to feel like home. It is so close to everything you would need/want: store, restaurants, food truck and the National park. Very convinient.

Our family truly enjoyed this rental, it’s location, and the games provided for family nights. We hiked in the park two days and drove the southern coast one day, each night coming back to a warm comfortable setting to enjoy family game night. We were able to make breakfast each morning before heading out and everyone had a comfortable place to sleep after long days of exploring. One item of note, not a complaint, just a heads up, the local diners are few and the hours should be looked at in advance. The grocery stores close early so planning ahead for meals is important. The restaurants we enjoyed were wonderful and the service was gracious. You’ll just need to be intentional on when you eat out and when you fix something at the treehouse. Wonderful experience!

Excellent accomodations & overall ambience. So close to the Volcano National Park and 45 minutes to Hilo. The surrounding trees truly made the stay feel like you were staying in a secluded rainforest. The host was excellent in all communication and definitely delivered on the description of the house. Definitely recommend!

The beds, sofas, and chairs were all very comfortable. The home is lovely... super clean, with lots of windows, and filled with attractive art. A wonderful home with unique layout and thoughtful design throughout. Comfortable and inviting. Good location near Volcano village and Nt'l Park though a bit hard to find on bumpy side road. Great spaces to sit outdoors. Kids stayed downstairs. Separate outdoor entrance for downstairs bedroom and bath which was fine for us but may not be for families with younger kids. All in all we loved the place.

Very nice house with lovely features. 2 floor separated layout worked for our family too - teen kids downstairs and parents upstairs.; but wouldn’t be ideal for younger kids. Good value for money and very convenient to the park.

Loved the many windows and rainforest views! The covered balcony was a perfect place to watch birds and drink coffee, especially enjoyable during the rain. We saw many pheasants in the back 'yard'. The property managers were responsive. The lower bedroom had a dehumidifier which was really appreciated. And the W/D was wonderful. Highly recommended property.

Really best suited to a couple or two friends- why1. the upper part is quite open in that bedroom does not have door, limited privavcy eg if someone wanted to nap you would be able to hear everyhing from living area;2. the two bedrooms are connected by an outdoor staircase- so the second bedroom and bathroom is on the ground floor, living area, kitchen and master bedroom on upper floor;- it feels as though you are quite isolated in the second ground floor bedroom- and that is all there is there- laundry is outside the unit. The treehouse is absolutely magical in everyway. The lanai, the birds singing, the ohia trees. We loved every moment at this location. The treehouse was amazingly clean, probably the cleanest rental we have ever experienced. Perfect distance to Volcano national park where we spent most of our three days. Highly recommend.

This house is adorable. The grounds are lovely and the decor is beautiful. Everything worked well and the house had everything we needed. The covered deck was perfect of breakfast every day. The location is very close to the Volcano National Park entrance. The water at the house was delicious. We brought 3 gallons of bottled water and then we filled up our bottles with the water from the house because it tasted just as good as the bottled water. We drank our 3 gallons of delicious Volcano water while we were in Kona. There was a lot of rain while we were there and the access road is a little narrow. The driveway to the house is even more narrow. So, take it nice and slow! Both the road and driveway were minor issues and we would definitely stay at this house again!

Our fourth stay at this property. There is a reason we keep coming back. Always a great experience.

Our goal was to be very close to Volcanoes National Park so that we could just pop on over as often as we liked. The house is less than a ten minute drive away from the park, which was very convenient. The location is very beautiful and quiet, but when you are first arriving, try to get there before dark so that it is easier to find. Once you get there, you learn the landmarks, and if you leave a light on when you go out, it will be easier to spot in the dark. The house inside is just as pictured on the website, very beautiful with attention to all the little details. The kitchen was very well stocked with whatever cooking appliances and utensils you might need. We shopped at the farmers markets and fish markets and cooked some very delicious meals! Everything in the house was also very well labelled. The fireplace was so nice to have on those chilly Volcano nights, and the bedding was so comfortable. Being from the suburbs/city, we were concerned when we arrived and the two huge windows in the bedroom had no curtains or shades, but from the first morning that we awoke to beautiful daylight and rainforest views, we were not bothered at all! We did not use the downstairs bedroom, but were happy to have the second bathroom down there. Our only issue with the bathrooms (a very small one) is that rather than having toilet paper holders, the rolls were just placed on a shelf or rack. The house was so well supplied - the only item that we could have used was beach towels for when we went snorkeling. Salt Water Realty was very responsive whenever we had questions. All in all, we would definitely stay here again - peace and quiet, beauty, close to the park, and so comfortable. Mahalo for your hospitality!

Words can’t describe this place, it is that amazing! I have never had a vacation rental this relaxing. Between the rain, the tree ferns, the birds feeding on the ojia flowers, the national park less than 10 minutes away I can’t pick a favorite aspect. The property is gorgeous and SO quiet! We loved sitting in the living room watching the rain fall outside while being cozy in the living room with the fireplace. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook fantastic meals. We reserved it due to it’s proximity to the park but we got so much more from staying here. Top notch vacation rental!!

This place really is magical! All of the pros to being in a treehouse with none of the cons. Great layout, squeaky clean, well stocked and very tastefully decorated. The owners and property management folks really pay attention to detail! The kitchen is perfect! Everything you may need, including good sharp kitchen knives and proper cutting boards. Oil and the essential spices included! We loved the jet tub in the trees, that's an experience all it's own. We also really enjoyed the view of the stars from bed. On a clear night, it's like you're sleeping in the sky... absolutely magical! We only wish we stayed longer. Birders will love this place. The lanai is basically a bird blind up in the trees. Nothing quite like enjoying your morning cup of coffee in a bird blind by doing nothing more than opening a door and stepping out. Lastly, we would like to thank the property management team for making the experience so easy. They were prompt with their responses, and were proactive in making sure we didn't get lost on our way in. Thank you, and we hope to be back soon!
