Wonderful setting!

Wonderful atmosphere right near the heart of Kyoto. Very close access to several historic sites (Yasaka-jinja, Kiyomizu-dera) as well as public transportation. Public bath is very nice and well kept. Breakfast served was traditional and varied every day as well as delightful. Would easily recommend and would stay at again.

Amazing place - oasis of peacefulness in a busy city

We loved our one night stay at The Kinoe. The dinner was delicious and felt special and the breakfast was really good too. The service by all staff we encountered was great! We'd highly recommend if you're looking for a ryokan experience/unique experience.

There were a few options to eat around the Ryokan but the ones we wanter to go to needed a reservation. We did get the breakfast package and highly recommend that. Overall it was a good experience with the tatami mats, futon and general decor. The Onsen was a bit small but it's definitely worth going to at least once.

We wanted to try the old Japanese life. The experience was great. The location of the hotel is excellent in Gion. We went sightseeing by foot. There was some misunderstanding about the breakfast so we missed that event. The stuff was kind and helpful.

A good experience to try Japanese tradtional hotel. The provided dinner and breakfast set are little bit small, anyway it's a amazing experience.

It is convenient to restaurants and tourists spots.

The staff were polite from the start to the end. We dropped off our bags before check in and our bags were taken to our room. We enjoyed the traditional Japanese breakfast. The rooms were clean and we enjoyed the tatami mats.

Fantastic stay at the Kinoe. The place is beautiful and it provides a very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The Japanese-style breakfast was very tasty and abundant, beautifully served. We did not book the dinner. The staff is very kind and helpful. The location is excellent for exploring the many sights in the area. We only stayed for one night at the end of our stay in Kyoto, as we wanted to try the ryokan experience.I can highly recommend this place.

Wonderful ryokan experience during our short stay in Kyoto. Our room was spacious, quiet, and comfortable. Great location.

Close to the Gion wooden area in Kyoto, you can get a lot of sightseeing done right from this hotel. The ryokan itself is lovely, the staff is wonderful, and the room is very nice. They give you yukatas to wear, and the Onsen is great. I had the tub all to myself, and I enjoyed relaxing alone in the steamy waters before going out to a show and dinner.

Neat royukan in the Gion district of Kyoto. Stayed here for our final night in Japan and no regrets! Quiet area with numerous walkable dining options. Close to Kyoto metor lines, and a 20 minute ride to Kyoto station for ¥230.

Fabulous traditional style accommodation Price is high, but it’s convenient to the sights in Gion region. Accessible via bus, probably easier by cab. No fault of the hotel, nearby food options close early. Shops too. A good experience overall.

It was our first stay at a Ryokan so nothing to compare with. We paid the additional price for the Japanese Dinner and Breakfast. The food is not for everyone; a lot of fish and items we never had before. The room was smaller than it looks in the pictures but comfortable enough. The A/C worked but had a hard time keeping the room cool although it was ok as temperature outside wasn't too warm either. It was good for a one-night experience.

Excellent location-good breakfast, clean

We wanted to experience a ryokan for one night in Japan. It was a bit pricey but our room was decently sized. The staff was very kind. They offered us drinks with our dinner, and didn’t mention it being an extra fee for drinks. So we were a bit surprised at checkout when they had us pay extra for that (they should’ve said it costs extra when they offered it to us… also since the meal was included we assumed that included drinks). The food was traditional Japanese which we had not tried before. Some of it was not my cup of tea but we still tried all of it! I’d say skip the breakfast since it was pricey and not typical breakfast foods. I was looking forward to the public bath but when I walked down it seemed underwhelming and kinda dingy… the beds were surprisingly comfy! Our backs felt great the next day! The styling of the rooms was cute. Just kinda dusty and there was super weird creaking sounds at night which scared us a bit! Overall though we enjoyed our stay and this new experience. And the service was very kind.

Wonderful experience. Staff was warm and welcoming. Food was excellent. The kaiseki dining was delightful. The area around the ryokan has many options.

This Ryokan was fantastic. The staff serving us were very polite and helpful, and they took great care of our room while changing out futons. The rooms are both beautiful and perfectly clean. The location is within walking distance of Gion district and some of the most popular sights and shops in Kyoto. The traditional breakfasts are perfect for anybody looking for authentic Japanese cuisine, just make sure to purchase them in advance. I would highly recommend this place for anybody interested in staying at a traditional Ryokan!

How to ruin your stay in Japanese traditional hotel? Tell you guest at check in that kaiseki dinner must be booked one week beforehand. No emails or prior communication. Just complete disappointment when you arrive. Kaiseki dinner was the reason why we choose that hotel, otherwise we would stay somewhere else. Same for breakfast - they require 3 day notice for booking.

Superb location. Clean, tidy and comfortable stay. Supportive staff despite the language barrier. Check out time is 10am, not 11.

Beautiful building and rooms, served tea on arrival and private onsen available. Well placed to see tue amazing temples and shrines around Gion and lovely boutique shops.

The staff is fantastic and the property is very pleasant. If you stay, be sure to include the breakfast experience, which we loved. The property is located near both the Hokan-ji Pagoda in Gion, as well as Gionmachi Minamigawa's lovely narrow streets full of restaurants and bars.

I loved the dinner and breakfast presentation, it is definitely an experience. The location was far from the train station.
