Located on the outskirts of Innsbruck the hostel is relatively easy to get to. From the central station you just walk around the corner and catch the number 3 tram (heading for Amras). After a few stops you get off at `Pilippine-welser strabe’ and then walk for about ten minutes. Incidentally, if your flight is a morning one, don’t turn up at the hostel in the hope of an early check-in as there is no receptionist until 14.00. So unless you want to sit outside and twiddle your thumbs you would be better off placing your bags in one of the rail station lockers and having a look around the city.
Our room was small and basic (no television etc.) and our allocated bathroom was across the corridor. But it was all high spec and, in keeping with the rest of the hostel, spotlessly clean.
The receptionists were polite, knowledgeable and helpful (don’t forget to ask for your welcome card which gives you free travel on the trams and buses within the city).
Breakfast was more than sufficient to keep us going for most of the day, although some might feel that the choice on offer a bit limited.
Should we ever return to Innsbruck we’d be happy to stay at the Marmota again.

It was really nice, but there is no elevator

Used the marmota to go snowboarding in the region, it ticked all the boxes I needed . Cracking view from my window and such easy access to public trans( less than 5 mins to the tram) will be staying there again soon

A bit too much out of the city, and there are 3 floors and no elevator :O
Staff was overall very supportive and friendly.

Clean, relatively close to the city centre, but overpriced. No shower gel. The wi-fi connection is apparently strong, but unreliable. You have to pay for the parking, or you can park on the streets nearby if you are willing to move the car before 9am. But the really annoying thing is that, in order to appear cheaper than they are, they charge you 7 euros for the breakfast as "taxes", even if you don't want to have breakfast. (By the way, the small buffet is ok but not worth 7 euros.)

Great views and conveniently located

Staff very helpful, nice breakfast selection available. A bit out of the way but near the Schloss and a tram so quite accessible from Hbf. Great views. And yes, they speak very adequate English.

It was a comfortable stay for us. The check-in was quick and the staff were very friendly. Room was clean and with plenty of space. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast a lot as well!

Clean place, very friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast, comfy beds, good location- close to the highway. They also have a bar with local beer! Excellent value for money. Highly recommend!

Off the beaten track, but easily accessible by tram and nestled right behind the Schloss Ambras park (so great for walkers), Marmota Hostel is a perfect place from which to explore Innsbruck, as a one-day transport pass lets you ride all over the city and outskirts. I was very happy with nearly everything about my stay: the staff, the breakfast, the cleanliness. My only minor issue was that there seems to be a big gap under the door as I heard the loud outside doors when people returned, and I also smelled somebody's smoke (they must have been smoking in the hall?) This problem could be easily remedied by providing a vent/draft blocker for the door. But all in all I really enjoyed my stay. Thank you for everything!

The place is nice and good value but there was noise in the night, someone playing music at 04.00

Perfect for what we needed. Within walking distance of the train station, the room was clean, bed comfortable and the shower hot. The check in was easy. There is a small bar and food available on site. Breakfast was very good.

The bathroom is separated from the bedroom, you have to exit.
Lock your room, walk, unlock your bathroom etc...
Parking is not free unlike shown, it is 7€.
Blood stains on the bedsheets.
Breakfast is very little and bad.
So yes it is an hostel, for that I will accept the noise of all the kids they host.
It is a good hotel for a cheap stay on school trip with kids

The room was very nice, clean and modern. It was well furnished and nicely decorated. It was everything I needed for a quick overnight stopover on my way to Graz. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful and her English was perfect. Parking spaces are limited but I managed to find a spot. The breakfast was nice but the restaurant was very messy with food all over the tables, and messy set up. That was the only let down, otherwise I was very happy.

High prices and poor service. There is a cash-only policy, which caught us out - there was nothing about that on our confirmation email. Advertised as having free parking for guests, but then charged for it. Also advertises as having free wi-fi but this is only in the public area, not in the rooms.

I am going to take a few minutes to write this review and try to explain from my angle why this decent hostel got 2.2 only.In my opinion it deserves a higher rating. My partner and I liked it. We chose Marmota Hostel because of the competitive prices and convenient location. Before booking this Hostel, weve read all the reviews. We thought that the cost was to high (150 euros for the night). But after looking at the other places ($300 and higher), the Marmota Hostel met our budget and got our booking. The Marmota is plain and simple - nothing spectacular. It meets all the basics = safe neighborhood, clean &organized rooms and bathrooms, multilingual and friendly staff. The Wi-Fi is available in the lobby only, but hey - did not come to Innsbruck for Wi-Fi. The hostel is 15-20 minute walk away from the downtown. The trams stations are 5 minute away. The city itself is safe and easy to explore.

Good private rooms here. Kitchen was pretty solid. Common area was quite businesslike and definitely not a party hostel

Close to old castle and tram stop. Front desk said I could buy transit passes at every stop, and I told him I wanted a day-pass and he said yes there are a lot of options. However, every kiosk does not offer all the options. We walked a very long ways to get to a kiosk that had the assortment of passes we wanted. It would have been nice if the staff had had passes for sale there, or had known more. I was also told that the cable car ride up the mountain was very nice, but the cost for my daughter and I was 47€! I feel like staff should forewarn this detail, thats extremely expensive-so we walked all the way to the cable car and then couldnt afford to go, and could not find a public transit stop that would take us there. So day one was a lot of time wasted I felt and thats frustrating when you only have 2 days in a place. The rooms were extremely basic, wifi only in public areas and we did cook a meal there in the guest kitchen, but there was some bad language and that made me uncomfortable. I know hostels cannot control their guests, but normally people dont swear when children are present.... So even though this hostel welcomes children and is family friendly, the atmosphere wasnt really child-friendly and the next morning I brought her breakfast to our room. The location is very near the old castle, but a bit of a ways from Innsbruck centre. There is a tram stop close by but you cannot buy day passes at this stop. ok to lay your head-very basic

Wifi is not working in room. Many people need to stay in the common area for web surfing. Hence, the people who want to have meal cannot find seats available.
