The hot tub wasn't working and someone pooped in the pool so they closed it early. That kind of ruined our stay as rhat was the whole reason we got a room there. But everything else was fantastic as always.

This is our se cons time staying at Dunes Express Inn while visiting the dunes and area from Ohio with our off-road machine. This hotel is conveniently located, clean and very comfortable. We were attending a side-by-side event at Silverback Raceway. There was plenty of parking for our truck & trailer (along with many others that were attending the same event.)
Breakfast is convenient and sufficient. Will definable stay here again on our next trip to the dunes.

Everything was great no complaints.

Stayed in room 106, no exhaust fan and looked like mold on ceiling above shower. Had to ask for sheets to be changed, there was sand and hair when the sheet got turned back. A very nice girl came and changed them, she very apologetic and kind. Overall have never had an issue, enjoy staying there. Front desk is always helpful! Would still go back and stay. Everyone has an off day.

The place was definitely not clean. Stairway, hallway and room floors dirty. Stairway was not vacuumed once. Bathroom was not clean. Smelled horrible of chlorine. Bathroom hinges were rusted. No vent fans in bathroom. Beds were clean but horribly uncomfortable. Not a pleasant stay.

The steps to the upstairs were filthy. There was dogfood all over them for both days I was there. The room smelled awful like they sprayed a ton of air freshener in there to make it seem clean. It's conveniently located which is the only reason I stayed there. When I arrived someone was complaining about the toilet overflowing...

Location and pool are nice. Outdated rooms and smelled like a smoking room. Overpriced.

The staff was friendly and the room was just fine. Really our only issue with the room, which we were made aware of at check-in, was that our room smelled of chlorine because the balcony was over the pool area. It didn't bother us that much, but if we had more sensitive noses it definitely wouldn't have been great.

Had a decent stay. I have been stay here when I go to silver lake for the past 3 years and I wish they would put exhaust fans in the bathrooms. This stay the microwave didn’t work in our room

The pool and breakfast room/lobby was good. The rooms were gross. Dirty, chipped toilet seats, wet/humid, and smelled terrible. There are no vents in the room, just grates screwed to the wall to look like vents.

We went to ride the Hart-Montague Bike Trail and found that the hotel had a connector right out the back door. Very convenient. Nice area to stay and easy to get to Ludington, Pentwater, Silver Lake, etc. Definitely would stay here again!

I am aware of this being a small town; however, we’re paying big city prices for the rooms. Certain things are expected. The staff wasn’t friendly at all. The carpet in the hallway is disgusting. It needs to be replaced. The lock to my room did not work. The TV channel lineup was horrible. The TVs are way too small. The windows open, but my window screen had huge holes in it. A small animal could definitely fit through one of the holes. The beds were clean.

Great stay, nice room and convenient location. Pet friendly for our dog. All was great until some smaller barking dogs arrived our last night and broke the rules ;). Anyway, the only thing that would have made it better is to have the towels and bathroom supplies in the room replaced/replenished each day. We had to go to the front desk to request some. That said the staff quickly filled the request.

Our overall experience was good. There were some cleanliness issues though. We had two used bars of soap in our shower upon arrival, and hallway carpets were in desperate need of deep cleaning. Continental breakfast was disappointing, waffles and cereal were edible though. The pool and hot tub were nice. Would probably stay here again, as it was one of the more affordable options in the area.

The location was ideal for our needs. The room was plenty big and the bathroom updating was a plus. The staff was friendly. The biggest complaint is that there is no fan in the bathroom. Not only does not having one create a ton of steam in the room, but a fan is really helpful creating some privacy when using the bathroom...as well as solving some other issues. The bathroom's door hinges were rusted because there's no ventilation. Also, the room is very dated. I read other reviews where people complained about the rooms looking tired and I can see why. It's pretty barebones. A tiny TV, no artwork (even the ugly kind), the furniture is outdated, and the wallpaper was old and literally splitting at the seams. The little table and single chair they had was by an outlet that was too big to allow a plug to stay inserted. It repeatedly fell out. I moved to another outlet and it was barely any better. And the freestanding lamp had a burned out lightbulb (and one was also out in the bathroom). The last thing that should definitely be added is a sheer curtain on the window. All our room had was the heavy curtains. If you pull them open you see the parking lot. It wasn't possible to get any natural light into the room without everyone seeing right in. That made my girls and I very uncomfortable. Every hotel I've been in that costs $250 a night has had decent window coverings.

Our room had a balcony attached to the indoor pool. The smell of chlorine was so over powering it made our eyes water. The pool area was also very noisy. I am not sure what the hours were but kids were in late and then again very early. The fan in the room was very loud and kicked off and on approx every 20-30 min all night. Without it on the room would have been suffocating. The pool towels were the smallest, threadbare, scratchy towels I’ve seen. I would’ve been embarrassed to give them to guests. Also they don’t tell you when checking in that the pool towels are kept at the desk. So once you get to the pool you have to go back to the front desk and wait in line for towels. The bathroom amenities were also very cheap. The soap doesn’t even lather. Kids were running up and down the hall yelling late at night, and again halls were very noisy early in the morning. Overall it was like a hotel I’d expect to pay $60/night for not $208. The staff was nice, which was really the only bright spot. And don’t even consider the breakfast. I am not sure how much of that was included in the room price but you’d be much better off doing away with the free breakfast. It was completely void of anything nutritious, noisy and overcrowded. The man working in there was nice and trying his best to keep up but it was an impossible task for 1 person. Water dispenser in the lobby was a nice touch. However, it was empty on check in and check out. Overall very disappointing stay.

I would rate this place a 2.5 out of 5. It’s a place to stay, shower and cool down. Some upgrades had been made, but a new sink and vanity light doesn’t cover up the poor installation of the sink and bath faucet. It also doesn’t explain why the floors were so dirty and spiderwebs were in the corners of the bathroom. I had to wear shoes in the room, the floor turned my white socks nasty brown. The tv worked sometimes. Apparently their service provider was not providing adequate service. The breakfast bar was okay, but the choices were limited. I would suggest not eating the gravy or the eggs. Both were terrible. Get there early to avoid the counter looking like the hyenas had a go at it first. Tried out the pool at 9pm, it was normal hotel chlorine overload. We swam in the dark - no lights could be turned on. The exit doors did not lock for magnetic entry only. So anybody could enter after hours or during normal hours without staff knowledge. After returning to our room in the early evening the trash and towel fairies had come and gone. But the people responsible for making the bed, vacuuming and doing general clean-up had failed to do their part. We will not stay here again. It was not worth the $$$ we paid.

The hotel rooms had no hot water or water pressure. After complaints numerous times there was no resolve. The rooms had no working TV and the nonsmoking rooms smelled like smoke. Poor quality hotel and have been staying here for a few years. It’s getting bad.

We were never able to enjoy the breakfast. Food was either gone or picked over. Ignored when asked to refill the eggs. The room and the water smelled. Had to throw away a washcloth. It appeared to have a blood on it.

I killed a roach before I went to sleep and saw one as I was showering. The smoke alarm’s battery was dead/low so it continued to beep for its replacement battery ALL NIGHT!
