What a treat! I laughed reading through the reviews before enthusiastically booking this terrific, centrally located hostel near the beach/bridge in Magog. Check in was easy, folks were friendly, kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to cook on site, and the rooms and hall bathrooms were tidy, adequately appointed, and super clean. Staff treat the place like home, and the rules, explicit in French and English, permit clear boundaries and good behavior. Also, the cafe on the main floor has excellent coffees and some food items, the sunny area for eating is warm and cosy with a Southeastern exposure and great light. The only disappointment was that I hoped to practice piano during my sojourn for the eclipse--and the upright looked like it was well cared for, but a note on the instrument and instructions from staff was that it was not permissible. That was the sole time I wished I had packed my guitar, but my sack was already 20 kg and I hiked all around the area finding the perfect spot to watch the heavenly planetary bodies do their dance. Thanks for having us--if you don't know what an auberge de Jeunesse is, and how it is different from a hotel......then maybe this kind of communitarian spot is not for you....but for the rest of us who travel lightly......c'est parfait!

The Magog Auberge de Jeunesse is one of the best hostels I have stayed in. It is located in a former church rectory with a well-furnished kitchen and spacious dining areas. The staff are first rate, speaking French and English. Special thanks to Anne-Sophie. Breakfast was bountiful. I highly recommend this facility designed to accommodate travelers of all ages at a reasonable rate.

It felt like home. We had everything we needed. Staff is very friendly. It is near restaurants and stores. We loved the café in the hostel and sitting on the porch!

It is a really nice and small youth hostel. Staff is helpful and understanding. Unfortunately our AC didn't work and there weren't enough parking spots available. However we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to all other visitors of Magog.

First and foremost, this is an Airbnb type of property NOT a hotel. No TV no shampoo etc except beddings. Some Airbnb indeed provide TV and shampoo. This property listed as “breakfast” included but we guess what it means is kitchen is available you can buy and cook, except we saw some apple/oranges on the table. The staff was very friendly. No one available when we checked out.

Expedia lists this property under hotels. It is not a hotel. It is a very nice hostel, but you need to know that before doing your non-refundable booking. You will go down the hall to use a bathroom as you won't have one in your room. There were no chairs in our room and food is not allowed in your room. It was very warm the night we stayed, but our room did not have air-conditioning so it was too warm for us. However - very clean, very nice staff, you can use the kitchen facilities, great coffee at breakfast and an elevator so you don't have to carry your luggage up. This is easily a 5 star hostel, but I thought I was booking an inexpensive hotel room, so my family was not happy about this. Expedia - Please fix the listing so we know what we are booking!!!

If you wanna feel like you’re staying at a college dorm stay here. Horrible! This is not a hotel! The bathrooms are shared! And the breakfast is not breakfast, it’s just a muffin! So don’t advertise otherwise.

The hostel is located in a central location near a market, the beach and trails, historic sites and restaurants. It is also not far from the Benedictine Monastery (nice trail to hike, relaxing and great cheeses) and Bleu Lavende. Everyone was helpful and friendly. The accommodations were wonderful and spacious. If you have a question just ask! The food is perfect and filling. I am looking forward to being able to visit again.

J'ai apprécié mon séjour ici, c'était agréable! Il y a beaucoup de salles de bain sur l'étage, c'est parfait. Belle aire de cuisine et ''chilling spots''. Superbe localisation!Quelques hics, comme des lumières qui ne fonctionnent pas ou des rideaux brisés, mais autre que ça, je recommande!

Hotel must spell out that all bathrooms are shared. Only tiny fans in the room with tiny windows (3rd floor), air circulation was bad in hot nights. Only recommended for those with high tolerence!

You get what you pay for: a small room for all three of us, no a/c on the hottest day of the summer, just a couple of fans that didn't prevent us from perspiring all night; eve one open small window was not much help. The washroom on the corridor were ok but often busy; you had to find another one elsewhere.
We would stay there again, but not in the heat of the summer.

Unbelievably clean and beautiful. Welcoming, elegant. A grocery store right around the corner, a view of the church’s lovely windows from my room. Guests were talking and laughing outside earlier, but inside the hostel it’s been quiet and respectful. One of the best places I’ve ever stayed. I want to bring people back to Magog just to show off this hostel.

Stayed in the private room. Bunk bed is one of those super squeaky iron Ikea bunks. Location was great (restaurants and grocery store accross the street) and there was lots of parking. Friendly check-in. It's very loud though - you can hear every conversation in the house (but it's a hostel so that's not too out of the ordinary). Breakfast was disappointing as it was not well organized - no plates or cups or cutlery were put out, no signs in English, couldn't tell what was the hostel provided breakfast or if the food out belonged to guests cooking their own breakfast.
