This beautiful Ryokan is well situated in the middle of the central shopping area, with accessible bus service to the train station and local sites. The facility is immaculate and charming with a lovely garden and very helpful and kind staff. Bonus is a private Japanese style bath. Highly recommended.

This Ryokan is a solo traveller friendly. They have room to cater one person. The owners are very nice and accommodating. They will explain to you everything about the facilities in the Ryokan. I used hands free travel service in Kanazawa station and upon check in my luggage is already in my room. Toilets and Baths are shared and is not an issue actually as never experienced them being crowded even though the Ryokan seems fully booked. Surely will book again when I return to Kanazawa.

the tradition room is neat and tidy with marvellous hot spring. the owners’ helping hands are always ready when you come up to them. one of my best hotel experiences in japan

The ryokan was very clean and comfortable. My room was in good condition, and the bathroom fixtures were up-to-date. The ofuro (Japanese style bath) was small, but deep enough for me to soak up to my shoulders.
There were a lot of little details that made me feel taken care of: they provided a yukata that fit me appropriately, they had perfumed the hallway with incense shortly before showing me to my room, they gave me good recommendations for curry restaurants and a sake shop, and the manager personally dragged my giant heavy luggage to a nearby courier and helped me send it to my next hotel. The staff were really great, I felt like they respected my boundaries, but when I engaged with them, they were warm and helpful.
The manager spoke really good English. The rest of the staff spoke very little English, but with my limited Japanese and their patience, we were able to work things out.
I felt very at home at Murataya. I wish I could have stayed longer!

It was like staying in a museum, for both good and bad. Shared bathrooms the bad. Great Location, great staff, great traditional breakfast

The murataya ryokan was excellent. We can highly recommend it. The rooms are big, the toilets are clean and so is the bathroom. The best thing is the small onsen, where we could relax after a hard day of sightseeing. The staff always is very eager to help.
Thank you, MURATAYA!

The family is super, very nice and polite. They provided very useful information about nearby restaurants.
Two showers for all male customers (same for women) appear too few. Bathroom products need improvement, considering the quality you find elsewhere at lower price.

The location was great for me, as I spent a lot of time at the contemporary art museum that was a short walk away. The neighborhood also has many restaurants, historical sites, and shopping sites, and it’s a short walk to the beautiful grounds of the former feudal castle. The walk from the train station (35 to 40 minutes) was very pleasant if you follow the small street along the canal. The owners are very nice and helpful and speak English well. The Japanese breakfast was a real plus. I found it a little uncomfortable that all the bathroom facilities are shared, which isn’t always the case with ryokans. I guess the part I found awkward was that the bathroom sinks were in an open corridor. On the other hand, the smell of the tatami mats in my room was wonderful.

It's a cute little ryoken! The staff was wonderful. The location is right off the main city streets, so there's tons of stuff to do around. This is a great place to stay to get that authentic Japanese feeling.

Very basic ryokan, more like minshuku. Bath was tiny tiny tiny. The place was very worn down.
Staff was nice.

Ryokan located near one of the shopping and eating districts of Kanazawa, but not close to Kanazawa station (half an hour on foot, 10-15 minutes by bus).
The staff speak some English, and all important information about the ryokan and its surroundings are available in English as well.
The room had no en-suite bathroom (it is all shared toilets and common bath in this ryokan).
The futon was not cushioned very well, so if you need a soft mattress to sleep on, this might give you trouble.
Breakfast options are western style (toast & jam, optionally eggs, etc.) or Japanese style. Both options are relatively simple, but priced appropriately.

A ryokan with very friendly owners, who take care of everything. It is very central, most of the attractions like ninja temple and kenroku-en garden are very near, or 1,5km away from the fish market. Just a small improvement point would be the washing area, where the sinks were had no liquid soap, no proper paper towels to dry hands, the tumbler was not working, so we had to search for a laundry place to dry our staff. But overall I enjoyed our stay in lovely Kanazawa.
