3rd trip to this property. Still nice, but not as good as it was.

Recently returned from a trip to the Luxury Bahia Principe resort at Runaway Bay. Although it is described as luxury, it is really just an adult only hotel with access to the “Normal” Bahia Principe resort.
The room, gym and beach at the resort are lovely. The rooms were nice and spacious though the beds in the twin room were closer to European single beds in size. The gym was very well appointed and I thoroughly enjoyed classes with Gary and Sharika. The luxury beaches were sedate and had wonderful views of the sea.
However, there is nothing luxury about this resort. The staff are wary of making any decisions so you end up waiting for a reply to an easy fixable problem or complaint. My main issues were that:
1. It is difficult to get restaurant bookings if you do not pre-book before you arrive. Walk ins were rarely accommodated.
2. The service in the restaurants was abysml compared to the staff in the family side buffet. Staff in the family side buffet were attentive, warm and approachable. The restaurants were woefully understaffed. I waited 45 minutes between starter and mains in the steak restaurant. I rarely received a drink top up whilst dining in the majority of the restaurants and servers would take our plates away without asking if we were finished.
3. There were a lot of staff, particularly at reception and the lobby, that don’t seem to do a lot. Staff members are constantly on their mobiles in front of guests which of off-putting. For instance, the restaurant b

The hotel is beautiful. The pools are great. The beach on the Grand side of the hotel is nicer than the area at the Luxury. It is a short walk or shuttle to get to the other beach. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The hotel is great. We enjoyed ourselves! Beautiful property. We initially got a street view but they took care of us and moved us to a sea view and it was wonderful. We will come back.

Property could use some updating in some areas. But we loved our room! It was the farthest away from the restaurants and everything but closest to the beach with amazing views! Pool bar was fun with super friendly bartenders. Food was pretty good. I like how they have several different stations at the buffet so even if you get there late you can still get fresh made food. It was difficult to get a reservation at many of the restaurants. I really wanted to try the Japanese restaurant but it was completely booked our entire stay.

The lobby bar on the luxury side is always busy and very hard to get a drink. There should be another bar on the luxury side. I would suggest that the Chill Out Hut should be a bar that is open till 2:00 am. Also with food available like the snack shack.

The property was not over crowded and all employees were very pleasant. I was looking forward to the relaxation rooms at the spa, only to find out that was not allowed. The relaxation lounge is a major part of the massage experience.

The property was very nice! The beach was beautiful and the pool was big with a lot of seating around it. The room was very nice and we loved the balcony, especially for the days it rained.

The staff at this property are amazing, the cleanliness is outstanding. The only drawback is there is no where outside after 6pm that has an open bar that you can sit and have a few drinks with friends and just chat or play cards. Every other area that has access to a bar has loud music or entertainment. It would be nice to be able to sit not far from the ocean at a bar till 11pm and just be able to chat with people and play cards or socialize without loud music or entertainment. otherwise this resort was amazing and the food was fantastic.

The beach at the luxury resort is not a beautiful beach. Waist deep, with rocks in the sand. Was never told that the nice beach was at the family resort adjacent to the luxury. The butler service was not helpful as one of my butlers was no where to be found. Not even quite sure what service they provide as the beverage room bar is stocked by the beverage bar dept (whom we never saw) n other items from house keeping. Food was good and staff very friendly. Pool was fun with activities and evening music in the lobby. Overall nice resort minus beautiful beach

The exterior areas are well taken care of and beautiful. The pool and beach area are clean and great places to spend the day. The hotel itself is definitely not luxury. It is worn down in many areas with dirty carpets. Upon arrival when we entered our room the bathroom was dirty and one of the pillowcases had make up stains all over it. The tub was never cleaned the whole time we were there as it had the same dirt stains in it all week. The food is sub par at best and the a la carte restaurants are almost impossible to get reservations at. I had also tried to get a late check out as our flight was changed and they would not accommodate. A very disappointing trip.

Only thing I thought getting a reservation at the restaurant was difficult. We made 3 reservations . Which had to be late at night 8:30- 9PM nothing else available. Then we’re able to change the time. But the place had several open tables. They claim they had some cancellations. I says that’s BS.
