Stayed with my wife for our anniversary and was upgraded to a large room. The hotel was lovely inside and the building itself felt grand. It was clean and fresh. Breakfast was cooked with attention to detail. The location was perfect for the centre which was a short 2 min stroll away. Very close to cathedral and river walk/resturants/bars. Car park on site. Highly recommend this place!

Disappointing attic room, not possible to open the windows and the AC would not cool below a fixed ‘19 degrees’ - far too warm and very stuffy. Bathroom extractor sounded like a Harley Davidson. Very small room for two people and decor badly scuffed in places. Staff very friendly and breakfast good. Good location.

Hotel was great. Lovely old building. Nicely refurbished, with a a contemporary feel. Staff were very polite and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Difficult to find fault. Only thing I would say is drinks in the bar were extortionate.

My husband and I had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. The room was spacious and the food was delicious.

Fire alarm went off at 3:30am and everyone had to evacuate. Not fault of staff I assume, probably some idiot vaping. Not the most relaxing night due to this and pillows a bit too soft. Love the bathroom the most.

Great hotel in an amazing building - old county hall. 2 mins walk to town. Excellent breakfast, nice, modern, very clean rooms. Parking a bit expensive but that's the price you pay for being in the centre of town

Excellent hotel - our third stay. We were looking forward to the breakfast as on our last two stays it was excellent. Bit disappointed this time We were down at nine but it looked as if everything had run out and not been replenished. Had to struggle to get service and espresso was luke warm.
The hotel was fully booked so may be this was the problem. Would still return though lovely place to stay

Great weekend stay at this beautiful hotel could not fault anything. Very clean, all staff are very friendly. Didn't have evening meal as the restaurant was fully booked but breakfast was perfect

This hotel is in a listed building and so suits guests who like stained glass windows and quirky shaped rooms more than the big spaces of many contemporary hotels. Rooms are quite dark, as ceiling lights are not permitted, but they are comfortable and welcoming. Meals are taken in a stunning, round room, which more than compensates for rather ordinary food. Marco Pierre White needs to up his game here! We would definitely book this hotel again. Staff in all parts of the hotel are very friendly and helpful.

I found the room lighting is too dark. The spotlight is only enough for reading and the rest of the room remained rather dark.

Most uncomfortable bed/pillows I have ever slept on. The room was freezing and excessively dark. Had to use my phone torch to see the air conditioning controls. One bottle of water for two of us. We had a room which felt like it had been cut in half- it felt claustrophobic. Car park charges are extortionate. Use the multi storey for the shopping centre- only a few mins walk.
Shower was lovely though and we did enjoy most of the breakfast. The hotel communal areas are beautiful.
Would not return unfortunately.

Was only here for a quick 1 night stay and arrived early evening. Great location to explore Durham with parking located at the back of the building. Was checked in easy by friendly staff. Room was very comfortable, clean and modern. One of the nicest rooms I’ve stayed in and was impressed by the unique decor which tied into Durham and the North East. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of options. This will be the first hotel I look at when staying in the region again for business or pleasure.

Gorgeous central hotel. 2 beautiful rooms. Really easy to find and modern rooms.
Bathroom amenities were plentiful and we loved the nespresso in the room to have a morning espresso.

Fabulous hotel think a bit overpriced for a one night stay in November . Room was fabulous shower bathroom excellent only issue I had was finding hairs on the shower wall ( not from me or my hubby) 😭 otherwise a lovely stay.

We had a very pleasant stay. Location is very central, rooms were nicely furnished, breakfast was excellent in a very beautiful breakfast room. The staff was very friendly and helpful and organized take away breakfast at the day of departure as we had to leave very early. Would stay here again.

We have stayed in this hotel before so we knew what to expect. However we were totally disappointed in the room we were given. The room was like a long corridor with what were like bathroom opaque windows so you couldn’t see outside. It felt totally claustrophobic and I felt we payed over the odds.
