The owner was very friendly and went out of his way to help with everything. The hotel has great character, the room was very comfortable and the breakfast delicious.

Lovely comfy and welcoming B&B with great staff. Our second visit whilst seeing son at Uni and we will be going back again and again. Well appointed rooms and great beds and the best cooked breakfast I have had in any B&B!

Very rich and delicious breakfast; a beautifully designed hotel and a spacious deluxe room with a view of Durham Cathedral. The hotel is very well located by the riverbank, and very close to major attractions.

Gentlemens Honesty Bar was a luxurious touch.
Next time I will book the room HRH stays in. ;)

The owner was so lovely and welcoming. The hotel is so classy and luxurious, I felt like lady of the manor for a night! I didn't want to leave. Love how they've redecorated since taking over, it's just beautiful!

Great location and very comfy beds. The staff were all so friendly and it was a bonus that we could get early check in before heading to a wedding. Love the bathroom products.
The rooms and bathrooms are small. Coffee at breakfast was very weak!

Spotlessly clean and beautifully laid out room. Very spacious and had everything we could want. It made for a very special weekend in Durham. Great location too.
Breakfast took a while to arrive on one morning, but other than that we couldn't fault 40 Winks.

The standard of decoration, attention to detail and warm welcome were simply astounding. From the moment we arrived, until we left, we felt thoroughly at home. The Cathedral view room we booked was amazing, thanks to a cancellation we were offered to move into the adjacent room which had an even better view and an even better, if not unique, bath.

The rooms was so clean and although not that large it was still comfortable. We enjoyed it so much that we booked an additional night en route back from our main holiday but upgraded to a larger room which was even better.

I don’t know what I would have liked because we never got the opportunity to stay there. Our reservation was cancelled on the evening we were due to arrive whilst nearly there having travelled from Cardiff to Durham. 40winks say it was booking.coms fault. Who really knows? Either way poor show all round on booking.coms and 40winks’ part.
Our reservation was cancelled and we were informed by booking.com 10 minutes before our arrival at the property.
