It is the capital of Tigullio, a commercial and residential center and financial heart. But it is also a splendid place for tourists to discover. With its medieval historic center and its nineteenth-century porticoes it opens up panoramic views of incomparable beauty: it is a city \"on a human scale\". An ancient city boasts buildings of great value in typical Genoese style and has developed its tourist vocation, thanks to the recent large tourist port and the clean sea, Blue Flag since 1987.
Its historic center is the so-called \"via dritta\", or Via Martiri della Liberazione, dotted with shops, restaurants and trattorias, some of which specialize in the famous farinata. Chiavari is also a city linked to fishing and craftsmanship with the typical production of chairs called \"chiavarine\" and beautiful \"macramè\" lace.

For those who love shopping, Chiavari offers some of the most interesting fashion shops in Liguria. Among the most important buildings is Palazzo Rocca. The lush botanical garden, where the monumental greenhouses with orchids stand out. The antiques market in Vicolo Dritto is now famous, every second weekend of the month and the various Flavors and Traditions markets, exhibitions of typical agri-food products and artistic craftsmanship. Worth seeing is the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora dell\'Orto, inspired by the Pantheon in Rome. The beach, largely free, is well maintained and ideal for families. For those who do pleasure boating, there are numerous charter agencies in the port for excursions to the heart of Liguria and the Mediterranean.
