This is an excellent little boutique hotell with a nice position in the end at Matemwe beach. It has a good size pool close to the beach. A neat restaurant and a cozy lounge section.
The hotell is the perfect size, not to big nor to small. The rooms are very big and tidy and the overall atmosphere is fantastic. But what really stands out is the management and staff. Super friendly and helpful in a most genuine way.

Very beautiful hotel with relax and beautiful, clean beach. Food is very good, stuff is very friendly, on every corner very clean and cozy. Chef Mauritio is very helpful, we had some healty problems and he called doctor to our room, get us advices about island, trips,... if on island electricity is out hotel has agregat. Benefit is pool because there are some hours that there is no sea.. people on beach are nice, not pushy to much as other places.

The friendliness of the staff, the beachfront situation and the outdoors shower!
The sea view was a technicality and the bathroom is wide open to the room, so not much privacy there.

This is a beautiful boutique style hotel. The staff is very friendly. The beach setting and the rooms are beautiful but the best is the food. We had half board and there were always delicious choices on the menu board. It's not the cheapest place but the food is fresh, nicely spiced, altogether the best food we have had during our stay in Tanzania.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. Its also a good choice if want to be close to the dive schools. They provide free pick up from the hotel.
Sometimes staff was to quick tidying up the table.

If you try to understand the local lifestyle and the circumstances of the poor local people you will realize very quickly that this hotel is a real heaven in this area. After we landed our plane and started to get the hotel we were shocked by the circumstances. The houses and roads are in very bad condition, lots of poor people and rubbish on the streets. But this is Zanzibar, and nobody told you to come here. It was your own decision because you wanted to explore Zanzibar, I think. Even if it is not similar to your own lifestyle. After we got the hotel, the staff welcomed us friendly with a welcome drink. We had some misunderstanding about the half board accommodation because you can choose more possibilities like only breakfast included or half board. We checked the reservation together and it was not a problem anymore. I realized the wifi will not be enough for home office and I told this matter to Mr. Munisi (hotel manager) who immediately sent somebody to buy me a mobile data card. I got that within a few minutes. Btw, we never could ask anything which he couldn't solve. Change money, have an ice cream for dinner, have a food which is not on the menu, call a taxi, need more towels, give me advice for sights or tours worth visiting etc, etc. Specially thanks for him to makes our vacation so pleasant and unforgettable. Other staff are very friendly and helpful one by one, as well. Always pay attention to our needs. We always got professional service. Perfect hospitality. The room and the hotel are very clean. Cleaning every day in the room and the pool (several times a day), the garden. The food was excellent, including traditional and international food. It doesn't matter what you choose, it will be delicious. Thank you CHEF. We felt ourselves completely safe but have to admit we didn't walk in the village, only on the ocean's coast. At the end we decided to cancel our reservation in Stone Town and stay here 4 more nights. it was a good...
The wifi could be better but Mr. Munisi helped me to solve this issue by a mobile data card so I could use it anywhere else for a single penny. The coast is quite dirty but the hotel staffs are cleaning at the front of the hotel every day. There are cows, but the hotel located enough far from there. There are some more expensive hotel close to the cows (dirt and smell). The beach boys are quite bothering but it is normal on the whole island. You have to accept everythig is little less than was offered to you in Zanzibar. It is also normal.

The Restaurant and Hotel staff were very friendly.
The Manager Mr Minusi, was very unprofessional, when we arrived, he proceeded to "Check out" my wife while he was showing us to our room, and he did so again and again on several occasions afterwards. He also asked us if he could take us to an ATM in the nearby village to draw him cash from our bank accounts for a personal endeavour of his.
The Hotel is on the outskirts of a Shanty Town, with a lot of very poor and very dodgy characters. The manager also said that we can't safely walk around at night on the beach. So it doesn't feel very safe. Furthermore, there is very poor Hotel security, so we needed to walk in the dark to our room at night, and there were random locals lurking around on the hotel grounds, so if we didn't go into our rooms before sunset, then we would need to run to our rooms and quickly let ourselves in, and lock the door behind us.
You cannot go onto the beach without behind harassed for money every 5 minutes, some of the locals would also follow us around, possibly looking to rob us where they could.
Our room had no remote for the air-conditioning, so we slept in a hot stuffy room. The frequent power cuts meant that there was often no water or cold water, and no WiFi.
The Safe provided in the room was not mounted to anything, so if someone got into our room for cleaning, they could just pick up the entire safe and walk off with it. Furthermore, the safe also stopped working at some point, as if someone had tried to put the incorrect code in several times trying to get in while we were away.

Fabulous location on a quiet beach. Friendly staff with a good breakfast. Rooms clean with beautiful furniture. Thoroughly recommend staying here.
No door on the bathroom.

The natural setting of the place is beautiful. The surrounding beach was excellent for snorkeling among the coral, as long as you take care with the myriad of sea urchins (take booties). Our snorkeling trip to Mnemba island was great. Our room was comfortable and spacious, with a beautiful ocean view. The staff were friendly.
Booking.com offered an excellent deal here for a double sea-viewing room with half-board (breakfast and supper) included, which we booked. On the day of arrival, the manager told me that the advertised deal had actually been a mistake that they had attempted to rectify with Booking.com, since they could not offer half-board in this unit at such a low cost. He informed me that we would have to pay for supper. I insisted that the half-board offer was the reason why we booked the place, and that we could not afford supper at about 25$ per person (perhaps not too expensive for some, but we were on a tight budget). Eventually he agreed to accommodate us by offering us only the main meal (without starters and dessert) for supper. This tainted our experience a bit, and Booking.com really has to clarify this with Jafferji Beach Retreat, to avoid similar misunderstandings in future. The main meal was delicious and more than enough, though. We found the cost of drinks (including water) a bit high, and ended up buying bottled water from the local beach boys at a much better price. There were complementary tea bags with the kettle in our room, but we received only one complementary 500ml bottle of water between the two of us per day. When I asked about complementary coffee in our room, the manager informed me that it was not available. Milk for the complementary tea was only provided when we asked for it at the restaurant. Minor complaints, but areas for potential improvement.

The food was really very good - the breakfast and dinners, the location was excellent. The staff were charming : )
The local beach was not very clean although the patch right in front of the hotel was quite well kept.

Area is really not much to do in matemwe. Mostly resorts. No sign to find the hotel.

Food was great, staff was good, Ambiance was great
No wine drink on the Menu, didn’t like that the housekeepers can sneak anytime in the room to spray Mosquitoes Spray without notice.

Good place on the beach with small clean pool. We had a very nice ocean view room with shared balcony looking over the ocean. Bkfst is good with some limited options. Tea & Coffee at the room with a kettle. Good wi Fi throughout. Fisherman village feel. Some restaurants around on the beach and in the small village.
A bit overpriced. Beach is good but this area experiences low tide in morning till afternoon, and some areas have seaweed. Pricey for activities & transports. You need to negotiate. Toiletries weren’t provided on daily basis.

I think it was beautiful when your rooms look at the ocean- but the ocean is dirty on that side .
The hotel stuff extremely helpful and very good but I found the rooms very old school , with no proper doors to the bathroom.

The hotel is really good and very calm, the staff is helpful and nice. Ali the captain who took me to the Mnemba island was very polite and freindly. The village is really poor, if you want to book a snorkling trip or anything else, do it at least with local people and try to help the dispensary and the school. To absolutely recommend

Where to start? This really is a beautiful hotel in all ways. From my room I had a fantastic vista of the entire beach and it was a real pleasure just sitting there watching the world go by. There is so much room in the lobby, by the pool, on the beachfront where you can just relax and chill out.
The food really is magnificent and credit to managers and the staff. Every dish I tried (most of them) had the best ingredients. It was certainly the best steak and tuna I've had in a long time. Perfectly cooked too. The soups are to die for as are the swahili dishes.
As for management. Mr Munisi and Joseph, really are top professionals who go far beyond any reasonably expectations to make sure you area at home. I like football and Mr Munisi went out of his way to make sure I could watch it.
I needed more credit on my local sim. Joseph sorted this out for me.
Really, I can't remember anywhere in the world that I've felt more welcome and all this in such amazing surroundings.
I was also doing some work and the internet worked no problem at all. In fact, with the view I had from my room, it was just about the best office you could have.
Overall, a top class hotel with an amazing restaurant all at reasonable prices.
Full credit to owner, managers and staff and thank you very much!

The staff was very attentive and super friendly. During this time of the year it is very quiet and peaceful just as we intended this week to be.
The room was clean and serviced daily, they even spray against insects every evening. The view from the room is great.
The cook is also great, they make simple but very tasty dishes and change the menu every day, which is awesome.
The manager is always there for recommendations and will organize everything you need.
If you are looking for a nice quiet place with great view and super helpful staff this is the right hotel
The one thing that is anyways not dependent on the hotel or the staff - even though the beach and the sand are beautiful, it and the water are full of seaweed. If you, like me, don't like seaweed, you will have some difficulties getting into the water.

Clean beautiful and right on the beach ⛱. The staff are amazingly friendly and super helpful. Would stay again
The food options could be better for lunch and dinner
