The property is unique in it's location next to the toniest beach on Kauai. It's easy to spend the day walking the beach to watch the surfing and to visit the town for the small shops and restaurants. The cottage is vintage, but adequate. The kitchen is well equipped. The hot water was sufficient for me, but could run out for a larger group (especially teenagers). The internet connection was reliable; the TV package was mostly high school sports (national networks only on weekends); the electricity went out once for four hours at night. The only problem was the occasional heavy rains, which are becoming more frequent. Those somewhat limit the outdoor activities, and could cutoff access to Hanalei. The road out was almost cut off the day before I left and was totally cut off the day after I left. Overall it is a great place, but it's not for everyone.

We love this cottage near the beach, we've stayed here twice and plan on returning. If you are looking for a place to chill in paradise, this is it!

Our stay at “Old Style” in Hanalei exceeded our expectations. We are a family with two very young kids. The beach was really just across a back lawn, super close. We would often go for walks on the beach and wade across a river that flower into the ocean before breakfast. A huge plus for us was the space on the grass that the kids had to roam. Access to groceries was super easy, probably less than a 5 minute drive to the main grocery store. I can’t identify any negatives, and I want to return. Beyond the property, I loved seeing the dramatic green mountains in view when in the water at the beach in Hanalei.

My wife, 1.5 yr old son and two good friends stayed here for 4-5 days and we loved it. The place is simple, stocked with everything you need and in an absolutely perfect location. We played bocce in the yard, walked to the beach, walked into town and listened to the waves at nighttime. Mahalo for the wonderful stay!

The Old Style was the perfect north shore getaway location! Quiet neighborhood, walk directly to the beach, the house was perfect for us as a couple, chairs/umbrellas/boogie boards/etc. provided, and loved that cooking elements available as a bonus (seasonings, dry foods, condiments, etc.). We'll be back! And Suzanne and team were awesome!

Beautiful property, maybe 50 yards across the lawn to the beach. Comfortable house, had everything we needed. Check-in and communication with hosts was excellent, some of the best I have had through VRBO. I recommend to others and would stay here again.

I brought my daughter here for spring break/graduation gift. This house is so cute! Super clean and had everything we needed. Walking distance to shops/restaurants and super close to the beach (right out the back door!) Beds are very comfortable - which is a big deal to me. This was one of three places we stayed on Kauai over a two week period. It was within walking distance to downtown and access to the beach was good. The little house was quaint and clean. It is part of a group of houses that share a large lawn, and sometimes others were using it to play games. We would stay here again.

This sweet little house was spotlessly clean and well supplied. There were beach towels, beach chairs, a shade canopy, boogie boards, and children's beach toys. There's a charcoal grill on the lanai. You can see the ocean from the window, lanai, and lounge chairs in the backyard. I enjoyed sitting there among the tropical plants and watching the ocean from a little distance. The beach is only a few steps away across the back yard. Waves were strong in February. Town was a little further than I expected, and we preferred to drive rather than walk. It appears that folks from 4 vacation rental homes share the backyard and washer/dryer. Everyone was quiet and polite. It felt a bit like a vacation at grandma's house, peaceful and happy.

Great location if Hanalei Beach and Bay are the focus of your visit. Everything we needed for a relaxing trip was available in Hanalei and we ventured out only for a visit to Kilauea and the Kalalau Trail.

Wasn't our first stay and won't be our last. We love experiencing Hanalei the old way!

Very clean cute one bedroom cottage on a fantastic beach. Location is an easy walk to town and a short walk across the lawn to the beach.

What a sweet spot right on the beach in magical Hanalei Bay! Old Style was exactly what we expected and very clean, comfortable with everything we needed for a wonderful stay. We'd move in forever if we could. Definitely a favorite ... we'll be back!

The location of this property is hard to beat, walking distance to downtown Hanalei, Hanalei bay and what feels like your own private beach. Amazing views of the mountains and waterfalls. Everything about this property was great, very clean, cozy and we had everything needed. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

We loved our stay in this cozy cottage. Being steps from our favorite beach and listening to and watching the waves made for a perfect 25th anniversary. The home had everything we needed for the kitchen and the beach. We’ll be back!

The property had everything we needed- a well stocked kitchen, clean sheets and a stunning grassy view of Hanalei beach. We loved waking up and and being able to head out to the beach and stroll there and back throughout the day. We had family staying up the road in Princeville and they would come over for afternoon boogie boarding and dinner on the grass before heading back to their rental; the grassy area is amazing for relaxing. The management company was easy to work with and we had a wonderful trip.

Kira the property manager was super communicative and helpful ahead of the trip. Property was exactly like the photos. The grass of the backyard literally ends at the beach. What more could you want?????

This home was perfect for our family of 4 and quite a welcome difference between a resort property. The location was quiet and peaceful, enjoyed the rain, birds and chickens to wake us. We walked along the beach into town for dinner one night and enjoyed pizza on the beach another night. Coffee on the beach each morning. Great location and the cottage couldn’t be more charming. I was concerned about no air conditioning but that was not an issue ever, the trade winds cool it down perfectly. This property is a true hidden gem and we would love to come back again soon!

We had a great week in paradise

I have been to Kauai 7 times and this trip was the best due to the location. So peaceful, quite and close to the beach.

We've stayed in Hanalei many many times over the years; this house was the furthest from town but we didn't mind. It was a bit expensive for what it was, but for a few nights it was fine for family of four, esp as the bedroom, living room and bathroom are all spacious. Being able to walk across the grass to that majestic beach is glorious; if you've never been to Hanalei, you should go--it's nirvana (so long as you aren't a big resort person: one of draws for those of us who aren't is that there are zero resorts, hotels, or chain stores other than Big Save and some surf shops. If you *are* a resort person/corporate type, go to Poipu, which is 100% manicured and resortified). The one catch for the genuine surf-town lovers among us is that the challenges of getting in/out of Hanalei is *real* right now and, from what I understand from locals, the next four months. The state website is unclear: at present *only* one lane opens to alternating traffic for three 45 min windows a day, Mon-Sat. Between 5 PM and 11 PM Mon-Sat and all day on Sundays it's one lane (alternating directions) continuously (so that's better). Other than those windows it's entirely closed. We were going to take a 10 AM flight home but as we waited 90 min at full stop to get into Hanalei on Saturday (and we knew when the window was) we switched our flight to a red eye (hate those but had to get home). Sunday seems to be the best day to arrive and leave town (for any reason), and as a result people staying anywhere east/south of the Princeville shopping center seem to choose that day to visit Hanalei. Anyway, Old Style worked just fine for us. Everyone loved the beach, local restaurants, outdoor shower, and super friendly people working in Hanalei (shout out to the sweethearts at Hanalei Bread Co, and the excellent coffee and fresh food there). If I could've stayed a month, I would have. <3
