Focus Kuramae

The staff were so friendly and welcoming when I arrived, which was so appreciated on my first trip to Japan.

My room was a bit warm

Really good location in the neighborhood of Kuramae: it is quite an interesting area without the crowds and hectic movement you get in other parts of Tokyo. It was really close to Kuramae's metro station but you can also easily walk to surrounding areas such as Asakusa and Ueno (around 30 mins walk). Bonus points since from Kuramae station you can get a train that goes directly to Narita's airport. The staff was all really chill and friendly. Highlighting the friendliness and warmth of the staff girls, don't know your names but really appreciated it: be it from the spot recommendations to the kind/warm greeting smiles. Great common area downstairs with a small but equipped kitchen. Loved the chill vibe of the place.

The room was quite smaller than I expected, but still it is manageable for a solo traveler. For the price and location you get it is the only major tradeoff I can think of. Wished that the room AC was less dusty and that the room had better sound insulation. Take some earplugs with you if you don't want to be bothered with noise from other guests.

Accessible from the public transport, nice location

Nice location and very friendly, helpful staff.

The room was extremely small—more like a shoebox than a proper hotel room. Unfortunately, our room was located right next to the bathroom and laundry area, and noise was a big issue. On two separate nights, guests were using a hair dryer at midnight and 1am, and on another night someone was doing laundry at 2am, which woke me up. Overall, it made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. Even though the price was on the cheaper side for Tokyo, it still felt expensive for what was offered.
