All went well. Regarding children Beach is behind a bulkhead and water is 3ft deep at bulkhead and too deep for young kids to play in.

I love Captain's! It's an amazing home on an amazing island with the best Host! I've said it before, and I'll say it again Karen's is like my home away from home. It's the perfect home with two great bedrooms with the comfiest King size beds that both have nice large bathrooms attached. Every possible item you might need or want in the kitchen and throughout the house and even more amenities for outdoor pleasure such as bikes, paddle boards, etc. The private white sand beach....should I say more?! FABULOUS!! I never stay anywhere else now!

This is a quaint modern 2 bedroom house with a full bath per bedroom, plus a powder room. It has everything you could need (except food). The owner has thought of everything from beach towels to bicycles to bug spray! It was impeccably clean and best of all pet-friendly. It house it's own private beach (with chairs and fire-pit) right on the sound! It's at the end of a dead-end road-sooo private. Decks on both levels and a gorgeous sunset every night! The owner answers any texts promptly if you have any need or question. A fenced in yard for you pup as well.

Karen was helpful, caring, knowledgeable, and supportive during a tropical storm. Her guidance helped us to make the decision to stay which worked out very well. She kept in touch with us and directed our movements when necessary. The house is beautiful, warm, and comfortable. We were in want for nothing.

We could not have found a more perfect home for our family vacation. The owner Karen makes sure everything is perfect as if she was creating the place for her own perfect vacation! The house is beautiful and beautifully decorated! It's clean and cozy and all of the furniture is comfortable. The couch has electric recliners which helped me due to my MS. The beds and pillows are sooo comfortable. The kitchen and bathrooms are beautiful with a garden tub upstairs! You can see the water out a window in the shower! The neighbors are quiet. The fenced in area in the backyard is perfect for pets, yet the house smells like none have ever been there. You have your own beach out back by the docks, the sunset is more amazing from the deck out back and the dock than the sunrise on the beach (we checked out both). We fished almost every evening from the dock and loved it. We loved it so much we only went to the beach 3 days out of 7, and I love the beach (It was uncrowded and amazing itself). Anyways, Karen's home is perfect! I can't say enough good things about it. Thank you Karen! We'll be back next year!❤

This was our second time staying at this property as a family (32, 64, 66yo) and we loved it. The owner is kind, professional and communicative. The home is beautiful and well-appointed. Appliances/amenities were all functional and made for a very comfortable stay. We especially enjoyed using the beach firepit and dock for the (rented) kayaks. Recent construction next door was unexpected and persistently noisy, but not within the owners control. Consequently we spent more time at the ocean beach this year to avoid the noise, but sunsets from the dock or decks were still quiet/peaceful. Overall, we recommend the property to others.

Property was so unique with the private beach and the close proximity to the ocean. We often drove down to the public access where houses ended and walked on the shore at 5 to 7am without seeing a single or person. We enjoyed the fish markets and cooking in more than eating out. It was everything we were looking for. Plan to come again.

We enjoyed the "homey" feel and all the wonderful accommodations! Incredible soundfront view and access and the most amazing sunsets you will find! The paddleboards and bikes were very useful and in great condition. Thanks also Karen for being pet friendly so we didn't have to leave them at home!

It was beautiful and peaceful. The owner had truly put alot into the house to make it enjoyable. She allowed our dogs who had a blast. Only negative was the construction on house beside it which could be loud and early but even that wasnt bad.

The house was great! It's in a quite area on a dead end street. The pictures do not do it justice. We fished off the dock and caught several types of fish. Had a nice evening around the firepit watching the sun go down. Gorgeous
There were bikes to ride and we put about 20 or so miles on them. The house also has a couple paddle boards, but we never tried them. Would've definitely jumped in a kayak if one had been there! There are rentals close by though.
The beds were extremely comfortable so much so that my best friend looked to see the manufacturer so she could get one.
Would definitely stay again!!

Karen made everything over the top user friendly. She over communicated so I knew ahead of time exactly what to expect and she reached out to me a couple of times while I was there. All the details were taken care of. The view was perfect, the privacy was amazing. It was nice to sit in the yard and throw the frisbee with my dog. I would not hesitate to go back. Karen even made some great suggestions on where we should go to dinner. I can't say enough good things. I will be checking the calendar to see when I can come back.

The property was absolutely perfect!!! The house was very, very clean and so well equipped. Not only did Karen (the owner) provide essentials like TP, paper towels, laundry detergent... she goes above and beyond providing soap for dishes, coffee filters essential food basics like oil, salt... She's just very thoughtful.
We noticed that the hammock wasnt there, I asked her if it was stored and before you know it, she was there putting up a new one. Her response to any question or recommendation was immediate.
The location could not have been better, literally 10 beautifly tree lined steps to the beach with great access to the water. A fire pit (which she had firewood there for you) that got a lot of use from us.
The house aside from being very clean, it is thoughtfully decorated and so comfortable, even the outdoor was thoughtfully done, little nooks and crannies with comfy seating all the way around the wrap around porch.
If you're wanting a relaxing place with activities at your fingertips do not hesitate for second to rent this house.

Such a lovely stay at the Captain's Hideout! Stunning views from the wrap around porch and Captain's balcony. This is the place to enjoy sunsets and stargazing, with more than a few cozy spots to enjoy quiet time, in or out of the house. The house had all the amenities of home including a fireplace. We enjoyed living among the antiques that were sprinkled around the house, especially sleeping in the grand 4-poster bed, least of all, appreciating the craftsmanship of the two dressers, and the sideboard in the living room. You certainly feel connected to the grandeur of a bygone era. The fireplace was a godsend for the rainy days. We enjoyed all the amentities Captain's Hideout had to offer including use of the paddle boards! The private beach is amazing. Thank you for sharing your extraordinary place with us tourists. We hope to come back soon!

This was our first visit to the OBX. We were looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy the area. This cabin and the area exceeded our expectations. Comfortable, quiet, well stocked kitchen supplies and full size appliances! We caught a variety of small fish off the dock/back of the property including red drum, flounder and a puffer fish. The night skies were beautiful and we enjoyed an amazing sunset! Avon was peaceful and friendly. It was a plus to have a grocery store nearby. We truly enjoyed our stay.

We LOVE Captain’s Hideout and have stayed there multiple times now and have more booked in the future! It’s the perfect layout for just us or two couples. The layout provides great privacy and a great place inside and outside to be together and enjoy. Love the sand beach, the sunsets, the decor, location to our favorite restaurants, the Spa - - it’s perfect. Karen has provided everything you need to have fun, relax, cook and is quick to respond if you do need anything.

Very clean. Comfortable bed. Indoor and outdoor living space very cozy and comfortable. The deck was perfect for gathering with friends for morning coffee and evening cocktails. The location was convenient. We biked to beaches and nearby pubs. We were very pleased and really enjoyed our stay.

We spent a beautiful week at Captains Hideout and it was the perfect spot for us. The house was so much better than we even expected and the pictures do not come close to doing it justice. We enjoyed being able to dock our Carolina Skiff and use the paddle boards provided. The fenced in yard and decks were a plus for a pet. Sunset from the upstairs bedroom deck were stunning. The drive to the beach is short and sweet which allowed us to enjoy both the ocean and the sound easily. This is by far one of the most well stocked vacation homes we have visited and Karen had fresh flowers on the counter to welcome us. This is one of those places that is a hidden gem. We loved our time and will most likely be back for more sunsets in the future.

This is a wonderful location with private beach on the bay. This affords a great location for sunsets and paddle boarding (they have 2 available for you). The house is very comfortable and in a neighborhood setting which we loved. The kitchen was well supplied with pots/pans, utensils, dishes, and glasses. The beds and furniture were very comfortable and the deck spaces are incredible. The host was very responsive.

We had a great time and found this property to be perfect for our family of 3 and dog. We really enjoyed the sunset views over the sound, open floor plan and two master suites this property offered. It was an easy drive to local beaches and restaurants allowing us to find the right balance of relaxation and adventure. We’re already planning our return trip!

Beautiful comfortable house and quiet surroundings, the house has everything you need for the perfect vacation. Near food shops, restaurants, great location in the middle of the island. Karen was responsive and all the information needed for the house and the surroundings is clear. It was just perfect! Sunsets on the upper terrasse are breathtaking. The house is actually even more beautiful than on the pictures!

Great Place to Unwind
We enjoyed the private beach and both the upper and lower deck. Lower deck had a gate that made it very dog friendly. We could let our sweet girl roam/patrol, knowing she was safe. Little fence-in yard out back was great for her, too. Kitchen had everything we needed, and the grill was perfectly situated to be protected from wind and rain. Close to Food Lion and the fresh seafood market. Short drive to beach access was a plus.

Another Great Stay

We spent 5 days here and would return again. The house is nicely updated and decorated. Very roomy master bathroom with a nice shower. Though it is graciously pet-friendly, I don’t think it’s apparent if you’re not a dog lover. If you do have your beloved pup with you, this is a nice location at the end of a road. The only downside is there is not direct access into the fenced in yard so be prepared if you have a runner. Sunsets and stargazing are amazing here, particularly from the upstairs master deck. You are nestled in a real neighborhood of mostly residents. One morning we were surprised with 2 large deer in the yard which were spotted later crossing Hwy 12. Many good restaurants in the area. If you plan to drive on the beaches, you will need to get a permit for $50 (this is new since our last visit to OBX) and dogs are required to be on a 6 foot leash. Tip: pack your own hand/body soaps as they were not provided. Otherwise well-appointed amenities. Trash pickup is after midnight so don’t be alarmed with the wake-up!

A lot of potential
This will be a great property when they are done with the renovations. It definitely still needs a lot of TLC. The kitchen and master bath have been redone. The rest is still in need of updating. The property needs a deep cleaning too. However the property manager was great. Very responsive and easy to contact. The views of the sound are beautiful. The gravel road getting there is a bit rough if you don’t have an SUV. Avon is a cute little OBX town. We had some great meals at local restaurants.

House is great with great view to sunset. Our main goal was windsurfing, so having close access to sound right on property was a must. We could set up sails and boards behind the house on a spot surrounded by trees and bushes protected from winds, right next to the beach, and we also kept rigs and boards there overnight, no need to unrig your sail. The shore line is reinforced by a little wall, but there is a ladder into water and it is about 2-3 feet deep there (water level fluctuates). About 20 yards into water we found a rope attached to the bottom, so we could tie windsurf boards to it and leave in water while resting. Windfoiling - used 60cm mast on foil, it is not deep enough for 90cm, but winds are typically good for regular windsurfing and we used stock fins, not much weeds there.
The good touch is to have bikes there - used them to go to beach on the ocean side and just for looking around. You may bring bike lock to feel safer when leaving bike on the ocean beach or other places. There were also paddleboards, but being windsurfers used to 15-30 mph speeds these were too slow for us :-). BTW, binoculars was a great addition to the house.
