Small size of property. Comfortable beds, good breakfast, friendly, helpful staff.
Nothing. Was a great stay

Clean room with comfy bed and a nice view over the Douro river. Location is lively with a lot of nearby restaurants and sights. The room does a nice job of blocking outside noise even though the location is quite busy.
We couldn't get the AC to go lower than 20 Celsius. And our room cards kept not working for us and we had to get them reset at the front desk.

Location was excellent and the room was very roomy and comfortable. The staff was phenomenal and promised and delivered the best possible Douro River tour with Luis of Living Tours. Breakfast was wonderful.
Nothing. Loss of power the night of our scheduled chefs dinner at Casario was disappointing but totally beyond the control of the property. The restaurant manager recommended Terra Nova where we went and had an excellent dinner.

Amazing location, very smart bedrooms, charming hosts. The restaurant Casario is absolutely outstanding.

Graet Location!
GREAT ROOM! But no mini fridge and room was NOT sound proof. The windows did a good job but the singers in front of the hotel could drive you nuts.

Great location, right along the river in the heart of the action. The room was the corner room. You get a bottle of Porto with your stay and included breakfast was nice. Would stay here again.

It was close to everything. Loved seeing the river from window. Friendly staff.
Everything was great. I just wish breakfast started at 7:00 am. We missed it twice due to early tour and train.

We loved our stay here. It was made really wonderful by the great, attentive and helpful staff (shout outs to Antonio!). The location is right in the middle of the action in the Ribeira. Some reviewers have complained about the music outside our windows, but we loved it. If we wanted to sleep before it stopped (not too late), we just closed the windows and shutters which made it quiet enough (we had rooms on the 4th and 5th floors). The bed was comfortable and the room had a desk and a little place to sit and drink the free bottle of Port wine offered by the hotel. The breakfast was good, and they were kind enough to give us breakfast boxes on our last morning when we had to leave before the kitchen opened. The transfer to the airport arranged by the hotel picked us up at the front door.

Nice staff.
Very busy and noisy place. Very small, claustrophobic, property.

The hotel is very elegant and the rooms are beautifully decorated. The location is the best you can wish for in Porto. Breakfast on the terrace with delicious food and amazing view is a dream!

The location is unbeatable. The room was beautifully decorated and clean and the view of the river and all the activities was fantastic.
I love the hotel my only issue was on arrival the taxi could not access the road and we had to walk with out luggage and the reception area was hard to find but so worth it.

It was terrible - they gave us a tiny room that was 1/5 the size of the one I booked and paid for, with no terrace. The room had no ironing board, no conditioner, no general amenities and looks nothing like the photos.

Nice staff, room was nice and breakfast was good.
When we arrived and before paying we asked if it would be noisy in room and Bruno and his colleague both said no. We paid in full for four nights and would have to move to another room on fourth night. After third night, noise from street below was so loud and we had little sleep over three nights, so we decided to leave. We asked for a refund for night we did not stay as promise of quiet room was not true. We were promised a reply by email for the refund and after following up, we have still to hear from management. This is poor customer service.

Wonderful hotel.
Pros: sparklingly clean!! Great location on the water, right on Ribeiro Square. Nice view of Douro River and Gaia from Vintage room. Comfortable bed/linens. Nice bathroom with good hot water and water pressure. Very nice breakfast with great view, excellent service, and good vegetarian options. Elevator inside very helpful for luggage. Service overall was friendly and outstanding.
Cons: Can be noisy. Shutters helped, but there was loud voices/laughter, music, and traffic noise until 2am during the Wed and Thurs nights that we stayed. Can’t drive or be dropped off directly in front of hotel; have to carry bags about 100m downhill on cobblestones and walk back up same way.

Everything about this hotel was perfect. Every person we accounted was wonderful, helpful and friendly. The bed was comfy. It had a charm to it. The eggs every morning were cooked to perfection. The gentleman who worked the breakfast was wonderful - remember us every day. Got our order perfect. Would recommend to anyone who was staying in porto. Danielle was fabulous.
no negatives. Do wish European hotel had wash cloths? But that's almost every hotel.

Perfect Douro Riverfront hotel. Lots of activity right out the door, but noise wasn't a problem in terms of sleeping. Excellent breakfast included. Very helpful staff and a small elevator to eliminate the stairs (we were on the top floor).
While the breakfast was excellent, dinner at the restaurant was very expensive and not nearly as tasty as other places we ate.

Beautiful boutique hotel with only 7 rooms. Unbeatable view over Douro river and the bridge; very comfortable room - bed sleeps well, enough space for luggage and getting settled, great bathroom.
Breakfast is a-la cart - I usually prefer buffet style but this setup was honestly perfect and cooked beautifully. I can also recommend the restaurant for a dinner, it was one of our best experiences in Porto.
Outside can be quite noisy and if you like windows open then some earplugs are a must.
I missed coffee or tea maker in the room (especially considering the cost of accommodation) but I guess it is not a common thing in Portugal in general.

Great location to fully enjoy the ambience of Cais da Ribeira. I saw amazingly beautiful dawn and sunset views right through the windows from my room. The staff members were very friendly, providing us great info on nice restaurants and things to do. The room was cute and cozy, exactly like what I saw from the photo gallery.
It wasn't a problem for me at all, yet since there are many bars/restaurants downstairs along the river, those who are extremely sensitive to noise and wish to have a good early sleep may need to consider the nature of the surrounding environment.

I'm reluctant to give this review only because I'm afraid GCH will get too busy for me to find accommodation there without months planning ahead. This was truly one of the best stays in Europe I have ever experienced, and that includes the Hotel Minerva in Florence, Italy.
Most hotels treat you like a customer, but the Gran Cruz House lives up to it's name. I truly felt at home, not like a customer. The staff were warm, welcoming, and accommodating. Everything about the hotel was modern, thoughtful, but with a rustic, romantic touch, much like the city itself. This was my first time in Porto, and I was so happy I selected this small hotel.
Everything about the House was thoughtfully presented. You are provided with as much filtered water as you need (free of charge) and a full bottle of port from the company who runs the house and the port winery. The room had every amenity you could imagine. The windows were double glazed and while there was some construction going on, I was able to work remotely without any distraction. (Unlike in Lisbon where there were constant horns blaring). Then in the evenings, the street performers would play and the music was wonderful. I stayed on the 6th floor in LBV and I spent a lot of time in my room, just looking out the windows because I loved the room that much. The bed and linens were of high quality, so comfortable, and incredibly clean. I slept very well. The room has its own temperature control, so you can choose how hot or cool you want to sleep. The robe and slippers were a lovely touch, and the towels were ample, and truly clean. The food and wine at this facility is top notch. The breakfasts were a la carte and freshly made upon request, with fresh squeezed Orange Juice, expertly prepared pancakes and eggs, fresh fruit, and real coffee. All served in a cozy dining room overlooking the Douro.
The only thing that could have been a little better was the WiFi, but it was sufficient for everything other than serious video streaming and conferencing. Also, when I told the staff of connectivity issues they restarted the modem and things improved. But if you are looking to work, might be best to get a room closer to the router on a lower floor. I was on the 6th, so take that into consideration.

Location, room, restaurant options, hotel staff helpful and welcoming.
Location was hard to get to and we had big bags. We had a rental car and cars aren't allowed to get to the hotel. If you are taking a taxi, they are allowed in to drop people off.

Beautiful hotel, great service, perfect/convenient location. Our room had a lovely view to add to our enjoyment of the complimentary bottle of port. it was a wonderful treat to sit on the patio overlooking the river while enjoying hotel restaurant’s delicious breakfast. Entire hotel & restaurant staff provided terrific service

We absolutely loved this hotel. The style and decor is amazing, the staff are so lovely and so helpful, the location is perfect for a city break. The hotel restaurant is also absolutely fantastic, the staff are passionate, professional and friendly and make it such a lovely experience dining with them.
The only thing I’d have liked that wasn’t there would be a bigger bar area but not really a huge issue when there are lots of excellent bars on the hotels doorstep!
