Palacio Can Marques is a lovely hotel in a great location in the middle of Palma old town a short walk from the cathedral. The staff are excellent and the food in the restaurant is excellent. Breakfast is great and the Sunday brunch is not to be missed.

Actually I am reviewing another hotel than the one I booked, as the owners had to closed it on “short notice “ (their statement) for heavy maintenance work!( if one could think that such renovation works are not scheduled well in advance, or do not require any sort of authorization, especially in a historical building). So, i could only refer to the other hotel. And actually there is nothing I could say that I like for the hotel I booked.
Just to explain the facts. For my birthday celebration (rounded year, quite important) I booked a junior room with this hotel impressed by the pictures on their website. I have made the reservation in October/November and required to pay it fully in advance. Immediately after booking I sent a message indicating the preference for a specific room only and I have been assured that all the best endeavors will be made as to secure that room. Around Xmas time I have received an email with the notification that the hotel would be closed for renovations during our stay, being offered with a duplex apartment in another hotel they own. If acceptable the offer it was said that there was nothing I should have done. Although not at all happy with the offer, I decide not to do anything. 2 days before arrival i have been called by someone on the name Jorge to see if the offer was well received. On arrival we have been greeted and offered with a totally different room than the one presented to us initially. When confronted with the initial promise he said the other room was provided to someone else. For them it was just as simple as that. No other solution possible. For us the most intriguing part was the fact that they miss leaded us and intentionally (we strongly believe) they just provide whatever option suited them, without carrying about the case. Exactly during my birthday! The worst thing was that booking DID NOT PROVED TO BE OF ANY HELP, for a client with more than 100 bookings with them. The only option available was to cancel the reservation without any penalty. Unfortunately we did not used this option. Overall, I do believe the kind of management they exhibit does not recommend them for a 1 star hotel.
I thought it will worth knowing about the behavior of the staff of this group of hotels.
Another strange thing, of which they were aware of, the fact that booking was possible for the hotel even on our arrival day (photo below)

Room was lovely, they have kept the natural character of the building but included lots of modern amenities like aircon, fans, great beds.
Our room was up several flights of stairs, which got tiring very quickly. Our room also faced the local square full of restaurants, so it was incredibly noisy until all hours of the night. Even with the windows and blinds shut, it kept us up all night.

The design of the hotel is truly fascinating. Reception is great! Rooms were quite big and with all the necessary stuff in it.
Sound proof system just doesn't exist there. You will be waked up at around 8 AM, when restaurant which located around will start deliver food. You can hear literally everything whats happening outside (we lived almost on the top floor).
Staff were... interesting. I asked them if they had valet parking - they said "Yes! You don't need to worry about your car". When I came back to hotel at 23:00 - they said that I should park car myself, because there is only 1 guy in whole hotel working at night (receptionist/barmen/room service/problem fixer)... One guy! :). He suggested to me a parking space next to hotel (5 minutes driving). When I parked there, and walked back to hotel, tired a bit mad, he they said - that I should move my car from there before 8 AM, otherwise there will be a very big fine. He said it after I spend 5 minutes driving there (by his advice), and walked back to hotel. So I needed to go back again, and search for a new place. Great advice! :)

The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The location was convenient if you're okay with not being directly on the water. Breakfast was great. The staff were extremely helpful with letting me check in early and helping me with directions and transportation.

Best place in Palma! We loved the settings, the room. The staff is above and beyond! We wish we had stayed more time in Palma. We missed the hotel from the very moment we left it! Thank you Palace can Marques!!!!9.
