400-Year-Old Stone House In Lovely Medieval Market Village - Dordogne SW France

The house and garden are great and recently renovated on the ground floor but retain old charm on other floors. It is a quiet location in the village but easy to access anywhere. The house is very old and has ancient wooden spiral stairs to all floors, which I found difficult, especially to the top floor as there is a very large step; young children and anyone with leg issues may struggle. As may not be clear from the details the only toilet and bathroom are on the ground floor. This is an ideal base to explore the village and the area, everything in the village is a very short walk away on the flat. The free car park is a minutes walk as is the Spa shop, with bakery, bars cafes and restaurants 2 minutes away. The village comes alive on a Sunday for the market and then needs a couple of days to get over it when it is very quiet. The owners have done an exhaustive guide to the house and area and responded very quickly to any queries.

What a lovely apartment! Well situated in a beautiful medieval town, Leanne’s apartment is a terrific base for exploring the Dordogne region. Leanne’s apartment is well equipped and clean and offers all you need for your Aquitaine adventure. She is a welcoming host and responded promptly to all of our communications. Her guide book was detailed and provided lots of practical tips for making the most of your stay. Issigeac is a gem of a town and features Michelin reviewed restaurants, many artisan ataliers and quaint bars and pubs. We were fortunate to visit when the Saturday market took place, and were amazed by the variety of produce, food products (including foie and prepared meals) snacks and artisania. As avid hikers we enjoyed exploring the region around Issigeac and found some challenging and beautiful trails. Highly recommend visiting the nearby Chateau de Monbazillac and sampling local wines. As well, the Castle Biron is well worth the visit. The local tourist office provides useful information and guides for the many interesting sites in the region.

We arrived in this charming mediaeval town and well-equipped renovated house with wonder. It was a step back in time, a place of peace and quiet and bird song. We explored the labyrinth of roads and passageways that centred around the main church and marketplace. With more time we would have liked to visit the many artful shops. We had fun cooking at home in the updated kitchen with the large dining table and French doors that opened to a sunlit area with a beautiful rose tree. The Spar grocery store was nearby, as were the two restaurants where we had the best cuisine on our trip in France…l’Atelier and La Brucelière, outside on their patios with exquisite menus and service. There were walking trails leading out of Issigeac that were easy and pastoral. The bedrooms on the second floor were large and comfortable. The top floor we didn’t use but would be great for kids too, with games and toys and lots of books. A small note to future guests that many historic homes have steep stairs and uneven floors….and a final special note regarding Mymy, who manages the house when the owners are away. She lives just around the corner and was extremely helpful and made our stay most pleasant. If you take the train from Bordeaux to Bergerac, our experience was hiring a taxi at the station which we rebooked for our return. We were let out at the side of the church and made our way down passages to find #5, to be welcomed by a cool, clean, character home for our too brief stay.
