Ice Age Cottage

This place was exceptional for me. First off I was met at train station and taken to the cottage. From the road you need to navigate some very steep stairs which were no problem for me. The cottage has such a beautiful view looking across to the mountains and down to fields where rice and vegetables are grown. Also the jungle is part of the view. The cottage is large comfortable and has a mosquito net. The bathroom is also large. The breakfast is amazing and being gluten free it was so good and way too much! Nirmala was so helpful.

I loved it all. It felt like home.

The owner of the hotel is an incredibly helpful, friendly, warm-hearted, thoughtful, and hardworking gentleman. The hotel itself is magnificent. It is exceptionally clean, well-organized, and offers outstanding breakfasts. It is truly a wonderful place with the best view in Ella. It is truly a great value-for-money hotel. You can be sure that you will be happy staying here. You will feel as comfortable as if you were in your own home. If we come back, we already know where we will stay. Hope to see you again.

The host was great! He gave us tips what to do, arranged tuktuk to the city and taxi to our next destination for a good price. The property's location is remote from Ella which means it is quiet and with a great view. The place is clean and well equipped with everything needed for a short stay, stable WiFi and hot water in the shower. Breakfast was huge and delicious. Different every morning (we were there 3 days). Just next to it there is good place for having a dinner.

The staircase leading to the property is a bit steep, so something to keep in mind if you're coming with a big suitcase. If travelling lightly, it should be no problem.

I spent a lovely week at Ice Cottage. The valley views are magical from every angle. You have plenty of stunning walks right at your doorstep, winding through massive pine trees and lush tea plantations. The cottage faces northeast, so be sure to catch the morning sun. Don't be lazy about airing and drying the place out during the day before the evening humidity rises. Once the clouds leave the valley, you are rewarded with an incredible starry sky. The cottage is immaculately clean. Everything— electricity, Wi-Fi, and hot water— was in perfect working order. Mr. Nirmal is a great and attentive host. His breakfasts are truly legendary! He pays close attention to what you enjoy most; by the end of my stay, it was like a "greatest hits" collection. You can get rare items like fresh custard apple juice or rotis fine-tuned exactly to your liking. The area is up-and-coming; Mr. Nirmal is about to add a new deluxe room, and a fancy-looking three-story veranda restaurant is about to open next door. Meanwhile it’s absolutely no problem to get a tuk-tuk to get to Ella if the delights of Kithal Ella are not enough
