This cottage was perfect for our Anniversary getaway - in a quiet neighborhood but very close to the Hulls Cove entrance to Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor. John was an attentive host offering ideas for activities and restaurants. The cottage was very comfortable and had all of the amenities needed. We will definitely stay again!

Far Niente is a beautiful well-kept cottage in a great secluded location. John is the consummate host and a wonderful person. Stay in this home and you will not be disappointed! Highly recommended.

We loved the cottage! It came with everything you need, including basics like toilet paper which was appreciated! It was very clean and convenient to Acadia as well as Bar Harbor.

My husband and I and our dog stayed with John for the last week of September 2023 and it's a truly special place. We needed both bedrooms since sometimes one of us snores -- and they're both very comfortable. Everything about the cottage is beautiful, compact and well thought out. John's very responsive and kind when you need anything and his house keeper keeps it very nicely.
Practical advice to anyone late in the year using the "outside" bedroom -- be sure to start the heater a bit before going to bed to give it time to warm up. Also, if you're bringing a dog, be sure you're prepared in case your pup is not comfortable going up and down the spiral staircase. I wasn't planning on letting her use it at all, but she followed me to the loft once when I thought my husband had her and I had to teach her how to get down. Of course then she comfortably had the run of the house with us all week, but it's something to think about.
John's a great host with a lovely property to share.

We loved our stay at Far Niente. The space worked we for our family of four, with school aged kids. We appreciated having a full kitchen, as it was nice to enjoy some low key meals after big days full of activity. The deck is a lovely and relaxing spot. The host was easy to communicate with and gave great recommendations for meals and hikes. Thank you!

We thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic cabin just a short walk from the rocky coast and the beautiful waters of Maine. Having a separate cabin for one bedroom worked out very well for us, and the deck between the two buildings with the table, chairs and grill got a lot of use.
There is lots of nearby walks and the new Bar Harbor Lobster Pound nearby was our favorite spot for seafood and hanging out in their wooded seating area with live music.
We love visiting MDI and Acadia, and this centrally located home made it very easy to get anywhere on the island in less than 30 minutes. Thanks John.

We had a wonderful stay at this property. The cottage had everything we could need and was comfortable for all three of us. The kitchen was well appointed, and I was able to cook meals with ease. The back deck surrounded by ferns and bird songs was particularly lovely. We loved it, and we would stay again in a heartbeat.

The cottage was comfortable and relaxing after busy days in the Park. Very convenient to Acadia and Bar Harbor, with well equipped kitchen for eating in. John was helpful and easy to communicate with. A new washing machine was installed days before our arrival. Thurston's lobster pound is a must! Would definitely stay here again.

We loved our stay! The house was adorable and had everything we needed. It’s perfectly located near bar harbor and the park entrance. But at the same time away from the buzz of downtown. We could come home after a long hike and enjoy a nice glass of wine in your beautiful porch and garden.
We felt like we were in the middle of the woods. My teens loved the loft and we really enjoy the detached bedroom. It felt like we were in a tree house with green all around. We would love to visit again. Thank you John for sharing your house with us.

What a cute and amazing cottage! It's like a magic portal that's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside :- ) And it is decorated and arranged in such a way as to utilize the space perfectly. Quaint? Homey? A wonderful getaway? How can we best describe it? My wife and I stayed here with my parents in June 2023 and it was just what we needed. Close enough to Bar Harbor that we rode bikes back and forth. Quiet enough that we never heard a sound from the neighbors -- except when we were taking a walk via the peaceful, safe, and quiet road that goes right by the water and around the block. John was an amazing host. Most highly recommended!

This cottage was the perfect home away from home!
Very quaint but had everything we needed to be comfortable.
Close enough to Bar Harbor but far enough away from the bustle of the little town.
Very close to Acadia National Park which we spent many days visiting.
The owner supplied us with much more than we expected including many suggestions of what to do, what to see, and best places to eat and drink.

Absolutely charming, fully equipped, cozy and comfortable cottage. Host was accessible and helpful. The house was incredibly clean. The washer dryer on premises was a big plus. Can’t good wait to come back.

John’s house is perfect for easy access to the park and Bar Harbor. We were in the park within 5 minutes and on the carriage roads for our daily morning walks with our lab. It’s a sweet home that not only has charm, but is very well outfitted. Although in a neighborhood with houses nearby, there is a nice private outdoor deck. I loved the added sleeping cabin- as a peaceful place without all the lights of the various tv/modem etc that rentals always need to have. (And yes, the wifi connection and television options were excellent) John was an excellent communicator! Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us and allowing our dog to join us for an outstanding week of hiking in Acadia. I highly recommend staying here.

My boyfriend and our dog stayed here and it was great! Low key neighborhood, great for walking the dog and taking her to the beach which is a short walk away. Reasonable distance to town too.
The place had all the basic amenities we needed andnit was a cute and cozy cottage. Ideal little getaway for April.

A short walk to the shoreline for sunrise/ sunsets, a short drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor, lication is hard to beat. Quiet neighborhood. A great host with prompt communication. Really appreciate him allowing us to plug in our Chevy Volt at night- Bar Harbor still needs more charging stations!

The cottage was absolutely adorable and unique. Felt like home! Very clean, comfortable and John was very quick to get back to us for any questions, suggestions, hiking, restaurants etc...
We also.left a charger there that he mailed back the day we left.
A short drive to Bar Harbor and 5 houses away from beautiful ocean views.
We had terrible weather so that was our only issue which was obviously no way to predict. But we will absolutely be back for sure!!! Thank you again for everything John. Such a great place!!!

This place is perfect for a peaceful lodging in the woods of Maine! The location is perfectly situated, close to town…but not too close. John is a wonderful communicator, and has done a lovely job on making it warm and cozy, and perfect for R&R!

We had a great week at Far Niente. The property is located in a great little neighborhood so close to the ocean. During low tide, we spent time looking in the tide pools and walking on the exposed rocks. Downtown Bar Harbor is about a 10 minute drive, and Acadia Hulls cove entrance even closer. We hiked, shopped and ate ourselves silly :) Maine is pretty perfect ❤️

We especially loved being able to walk from the cottage to the private beach with our kids. (We stargazed there one night too, and explored the 'ovens'.) The cottage is a perfect launchpad for all things adventure in Acadia. It was peaceful to come home each night and cook for our family. John was a very nice host. Thank you!

John was an excellent host and great with communication. Check in and out process was easy and fast. John reached out several times to see how things were going and to see if we needed anything or had any questions with how the cabin appliances worked. He also left a list if good recommendations for restaurants and activities to do during our stay. I couldn't have asked for a better vacation or host! Thank you John for allowing us to stay at your special cabin.

Beautiful location and adorable house full of character
The house is just as the photos show. It has everything you need. Wifi, TV with Netflix (Super for the kiddos and hubby), AC, and the kitchen was just right. Best of all, when we were looking for some close by scenery, for water views and sunsets, the end of the street is the place to be. At low tide, you can explore some caves about .75 miles down the shore and find LOTS of beach glass. A special nugget was seeing the starfish. Definitely recommend staying here. Short drive to BH as well as park entrance. The owner, John, supplied a list of restaurants and local spots to see.
