Aveta Hotel Malioboro

The staff were friendly. The hotel is near the mall and lots of shops nearby.

The toilet was musty and had a strong mouldy smell. The floor and walls felt slimy, which made it seem like the bathroom had not been cleaned properly. The tray where the glasses were placed in the toilet was also dirty and mouldy, which was quite unpleasant and unhygienic. Overall, the cleanliness of the bathroom was disappointing and definitely needs more attention from the housekeeping team.

The hotel is located in Malioboro Road which made it really easy to get around. Tour operators are familiar with the hotel's location and so did not get lost during pick up or drop off. Within Malioboro Road, the hotel is also next to the shopping center and there is an Indomaret (convenience store) downstairs which makes it easy to get food before and after tours and get essentials like bottled water. For such a convenient location, the price was also very good. Check in and check out process was very quick. The internet speed is decent for Indonesia. The room is clean and room service is done every day. The staff are friendly and helpful. At the last minute, I asked to have my bed type changed from twin to double as my mum had not gone on the trip and so I became a solo traveler. This request was granted immediately. I also had an incident where I forgot the pin to my safe and help was provided immediately to help unlock it.

The balcony room I got didn't really have a view, it was just a view of a wall of the building next door. The breakfast was decent but there were no labels in English which made it difficult for international tourists to discern what they are eating. For tourists, I'd suggest not to get the room and breakfast option anyway as you wouldn't really have an opportunity to avail the breakfast given that most of the days you spend in Yogyakarta would have very early starts for tours i.e., Borobudur Sunrise Tour, Mount Merapi Sunrise Tour, Jomblang Cave Tour and so most people either just bring food to eat whilst on their way to the tour and have a really big brunch/lunch after the activity. The minifridge wasn't strong enough to completely freeze bottled water which would have been really handy because Indonesia is so hot and so its a good tip to completely freeze your bottled water overnight before going on tour. Having a frozen bottled water which has just freshly melted and still cold rather than lukewarm by the time you want to drink it whilst outdoors on a tour seems like such a small thing but it really does stop you from feeling dehydrated in such a hot country like Indonesia.
