This modern condo is a great set-up for two to five people. We walked everywhere, it was nice to have direct access to the river walk. The kitchen has the basics, but no more. Plenty of space to relax, work, eat, etc. building is very secure and easy to get around.

Loved the location of this condo complex. Stayed for 2 months and wished it could have been longer, if not for Covid-19. The community of ex-pats is amazing, they were life-savers! Phil(owner) met us at the condo on Day 1 and thoroughly explained all info we needed about the unit, the community, shopping, etc. He was always accessible for any questions at all. Very reassuring to know he was available! The unit itself has a lovely view and a fairly private, generously sized balcony. There is plenty of space inside, allowing for visitors to be comfortable. My only suggestion would be to have the kitchen a little better equipped. It is definitely furnished as a rental with sparse accessories for those who may want to stay for extended periods of time and have dinner with family or friends in the unit. The mattresses are very hard. We got used to them but it was an adjustment. It would also be nice, for the premium price that is paid for this unit (by Cuenca standards), if a weekly cleaner were included. All in all, it was a great experience and I would recommend this unit and location to anyone in the future. Thank you, Phil!!

I had a great stay in Cuenca. The rental is in a great, secure small community in a very central area of Cuenca with many expat residents. If you want el Centro, the location is as good as it gets. Easy access to the river. Some great nearby restaurants all within easy walking distance. I had no issues with the apartment and would stay again. Worth noting that there's no heat in the unit (this is the norm) and coming from the summer heat in the US, I wish I had brought a warm blanket for watching TV on the couch. Also, the wi-fi worked great, in the living room/kitchen area, but not in the master bedroom. Not a big deal, but bring some DVDs (or buy cheap ones locally in Cuenca) if you enjoy watching TV in bed.

I loved the apartment and the location. I just couldn’t breathe up there but I’m in my 70’s and had just got over Pneumonia so I really cannot say if anybody else would have a problem.

This property is as described. It is centrally located to everything in Cuenca (grocery, market, main plaza, and restaurants). The apartment is three bedrooms, two with private full bathroom, and a half bath off the living room. The kitchen, living room, and balcony all combined for a very comfortable stay. We were there two weeks and had zero problems. The unit includes a great washer and dryer to top it off. To top it all off, the internet is excellent. You can stream for TV, phone over the internet, and surf much faster than in any of the hotels I’ve stayed in Ecuador. Top notch apartment. Highly recommended.

Our family of four rented this apt. for a three-week stay in Cuenca. We chose it for the central location and modern amenities. When we arrived, we discovered it to be better than we imagined. The VRBO description was definitely accurate regarding location, layout, amenities, etc. The owner also provided a guest guide which included info on the apartment security system, wifi, applicance instructions, nearby resources, points of interest, etc. The complex is a little oasis in the middle of the bustling historic center of the city. Inside the secure entry is a series of lovely landscaped courtyards. There are two exits, one that opens to a busy city street lined with food markets, bakeries, restaurants and sundry shops. The other leads to the beautiful Tomebomba River and riverwalk which runs through the city. Our apartment was spacious, modern and clean. Every very room had windows to bring in natural light. The kitchen was large, uncluttered, and equipped with all essential cooking tools. It was a delight to prepare meals while looking out at a panoramic view of the city and the mountains. We discovered issues with the a leaky refrigerator and non-functioning dishwasher during our stay. The property manager, Cecilia, was quick to respond to our messages and sent our a repairman as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible for the repairs to be completed during our stay as parts had to be ordered. Hopefully, those issues will be resolved before other guests arrive. During our stay, the property manager, Cecilia was communicative and helpful. Beyond that, she was incredibly warm and hospitable. She invited our family to a Halloween party at her apartment and was thoughtful in recommending activities around town for our kids. The other residents were social and gracious as well. We were invited to gatherings within the complex and our kids had play dates with some other children in the complex. This apartment was in an excellent location that provides easy, convenient access to any kind of service, amenity, activity within the city. Most things are within walking distance. It's also easy to find a taxi to take you anywhere else you might need to go. We loved our visit to Cuenca and thoroughly enjoyed of stay in Casa de Nogal. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

I can't say enough about this rental - the condo is in a beautiful high-rise building on the malecon, with an unobstructed ocean view from eight floors up. It is tastefully furnished with very comfortable seating and beds, the condo was spotless. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking, a generous supply of utensils, dishes, pots and pans are available, and the coffee maker made delicious tasting coffee, which is important to me. The temperature was very comfortable as the air-conditioning worked great if you choose to use it, and thankfully, we were able to sleep with the window open with no air conditioning so we could hear the ocean. Another great thing about it is the pool area, it's beautiful for relaxing, and we enjoyed time in the Jacuzzi, which is complimentary. The owner was very attentive and thoughtful, giving us great advice on where to eat, and ensured our stay was enjoyable. It was a hard place to leave, I highly recommend it, and if I return to Salinas, would stay there again.

We spent a week in this condo. As people have said the location is great. Very nice to have the balcony for morning coffee or evening glass of wine. We were 4 adults. A couple and two singles. The apartment gave everyone the space they needed. Some found the mattresses a bit too firm. One thing that did not seem to be mentioned in the ad was the layout of this complex. So nice to open the door and be in the quiet of a hallway and several landscaped courtyards on the way to your unit. The way the apartments are set up is unique and interesting. Nice to have one exit to the street and the other to the river. Phil was very responsive to any needs we had.

We stayed at this condo for 10 days and it was just as described. Very beautiful and modern with a lovely view and a very nice sized terrace. The complex is very secure and close to absolutely all amenities. The owner does a very throrough walk through and is available for any questions you may have. The unit is extremely clean and comfortable. The neighbors are all very friendly. We would definitely stay at this condo again.

The Casa del Nogal is in the ideal location for a thorough exploration of Cuenca. We three retired ladies stayed here for almost two weeks and had a wonderful time wandering the old city and venturing out several times on tours of the surrounding areas. The apartment had everything we could ask for in the way of amenities. And the location is close to all kinds of shopping and museums, with taxis available at the door every few minutes. The owner provides any help you might need and provides a notebook with instructions on all the appliances and helpful suggestions on things to see and do and on the local customs. The only negative was the occasional noisy neighbor, but that can happen anywhere. Cuenca is a wonderful city and the people are delightful. We would love to return and would definitely check to see if the Casa del Nogal was available.

The apartment was really beautiful and provided a great base for our family! We walked almost everywhere. We enjoyed the gorgeous view of the mountains and the new city. It was also nice to have Netflix in the house. The apartment is quiet with regard to street noise but we did have a noisy neighbor and the walls were thin enough that we could hear every word of his 3am phone call including the person he had on speakerphone. The only negative I could say about the apartment is that the beds are very hard. This may be an Ecuadorian thing but if you are used to a softer mattress or pillow top bed you may wake up a little sore (as we did). The other thing, which I am sure will be fixed, was that the fridge was acting up while we were there and no matter what the adjustment was it was a freezer. We did not contact Phil about it as we knew he was out of town and we didn't make many meals in the apartment anyway. We just thawed our leftovers in the microwave and kept the drinks out. Phil was excellent to work with and has lots of good notes about the apartment and surroundings.

After six weeks of constant travel this apartment was like coming home. The unit is within a peaceful complex and has very nice views from the living room and wonderful patio. The location is perfect for getting around on foot. We discovered great restaurants and fresh food markets nearby. We rent for weeks at a time world wide and this unit may be our all time favorite.

The apartment was the perfect location for us to explore the old city. It was close to the markets, shops and great restaurants. It accommodated our whole family nicely and was spacious with a gorgeous view and balcony. We loved the communal balcony as well provided by the complex. The complex itself was lovely, and full of flowers and lighting. The kitchen was well equipped as well as the bathrooms and bedrooms. Having a washer and dryer a treat! There was tons of closet space and the place was beautiful and airy. We used a local tour agency to hike, horseback ride, do the Inca trail that was only a block away. My only suggestion is to provide for a better heater or heaters in the apartment. It was "unseasonably" chilly, but it was rainy and cold almost every day we were there and the apartment was quite cold at night. The owner was very responsive with questions when we emailed him with questions. Stefanie A.

I normally stay with family when I travel to Cuenca, but this year we came for a wedding and thought it would be easier to stay on our own. I found Casa Nogales on VRBO and the pics were amazing. Let me start by saying they were more than accurate. The place was immaculate and more than enough room for the four of us. My parents, my sister, and I are all grown and some of us more picky than others...let's just say we were all very pleased! It was very easy to set up and get keys, and our host was very accomodating. We were very close to everything we needed. I would definitely stay here again!

Property was as represented and pictured. Owner, Phil and Manager, Cecelia were exceptionally responsive and attentive if needed and always available. Cecelia was even kind enough to arrange for a housekeeper to clean and change sheets and towels once a week for me. I stayed in the unit for four weeks. Relying on these types of reviews for the past forty-five years as I do when traveling, I have to caution however, that this is not a quiet or private apartment. The master bedroom fronts two courtyards which four other apartments share. If you are a night owl this should not present an issue for you when neighbors and their guests come and go but should be given consideration if you are early to bed and early to rise. The living and kitchen area are large and comfortable: but, unfortunately the common area for the condominium complex is on the rooftop directly in front of the balcony of this apartment and only twenty-five feet away. There were many mornings and evenings that I came face to face with neighbors or their guests staring back into the apartment. While there are roller shades in the living area, they are not completely private. Dress accordingly. Overall, the location cannot be beat and the conveniences both within the apartment and outside the complex are excellent. A good base from which to explore Cuenca.
