Great place to stay!

The house was great. It had everything we needed. Super easy to access. The owners allowed us to check in early, which was great. Only thing I wasn’t aware of was that this house is the primary resident for the owners and that they have a cat that lives in the house. Three of our family members are highly allergic to cats. Good thing we did not spend much time in the house and when we did we sat outside. Just crappy that on an important weekend for us we suffered with allergies and asthma. Otherwise if your party is ok with cats then I highly recommend this house.

we had a great stay, enjoying the sightseeing, hiking, mountain biking, wineries & breweries in the surrounding areas and amazing restaurants downtown. We also took advantage of cooking in a few family meals. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had some great quality time together. Bernie & Carol-If you ever find yourselves in Vermont, we own a family home on Lake Champlain outside Burlington, which we also rent occasionally, should you ever like to visit. :-) Blessings, Janet

This was an ideal location and property for families coming to Lexington, especially for any events associated with W & L or VMI. Plenty of room in the home for everyone and a very well stocked kitchen if you are not enjoying one of the many excellent restaurants in Lexington. Owners are very responsive and attentive. Highly recommend this location. NB: Owners also have a smaller cottage on the property (separate VRBO listing) which sleeps 6 and is a perfect addition if you have a larger group like we did.

We were attending a horse show at the Virginia Horse Center and the house could not be any better suited for horse show-ers! The house is not even half a mile from the entrance gate which made coming and going so simple and easy to grab something from the house we might have forgotten. Property owners made checking in an absolute breeze. Highly recommend!

Your home is lovely and our only regret is that we did not have more time to spend at the house! Even though the listing states the 1/2 bath is toilet only it was difficult staying downstairs with no sink or mirror in that 1/2 bath. It absolutely worked out but would have loved to have a sink. Thank you!

We rented both houses on this property for a wedding weekend. It was the perfect place for family to stay and for out of town guests to stop by. Very cozy and clean.

We have stayed here for years and just love it. The house has everything you need to have a great stay, well equipped kitchen, plenty of room. The hosts are wonderful people!!

Wow, this house was fantastic for our party attending my daughters VMI graduation. The house appears to be a very well kept 100 year old farmhouse with modern features and beautiful bathrooms. It is a 100 years old so it has a really nice home feel. It has great bedrooms, the upstairs bedrooms have bathrooms for each bedroom which is huge for having company. My wife and I stayed in a bedroom which had a separate porch bedroom attached for our 11 year old son which was perfect. He cannot stop talking about waking up to the light pouring in those windows and how awesome that was. My other guests all had separate baths. There is a separate bedroom on the first floor which is great for older guests and access to the first floor powder room. This is a real home, it has everything you would need for cooking etc and sturdy plates cups. We never know what the kitchens are like on trips so we brought a lot of disposable paper products and only cooked breakfast. My wife commented that the house felt really homey walking down the stairs to have coffee in the kitchen with guests. It is in a beautiful setting with a great front porch and rear porch and deck. My only regret is we did not have enough time in our three nights to relax outside as much as possible. I wish I had found this house 4 years earlier when we had bigger VMI functions instead of renting hotel rooms. I imagine people who have stayed here rebook every time if they have company. I know I will should we get back to lexington. Also if you know Lexington, this is a college town and to get a place like this you need to be quick and early in the booking process. I think we booked some 6 months in advance or more. The hosts were fantastic Bernard and Carrol we loved your home, thank you. John G.

We have stayed here a few times now and just love it. Big house with so many unique features, great kitchen to cook for a crowd, wonderful hosts.

The house was great and very close to VMI. Very convenient for. Having family members together and not huddled into hotel rooms. Would highly recommend.

The house was perfect for our needs on an alumni weekend. The three bedrooms upstairs each have their own bathrooms and the bedroom downstairs does not. If you're the type of person who wants the Ritz-Carlton, go somewhere else... like NOT Lexington, Virginia. But if you're the person who likes a clean, comfortable old house with character and charm, this is a great place to stay. The yard is perfect for lounging and reading a book in the hammock and the front porch is great for catching up with old friends.

We rented the Guest House and Carol's Cottage for all of our family. It was great, as we could go back and forth from house to house. The homes were so clean, neat, everything you needed and more than you expected. Carol and Bernie were a delight to work with.

Terrific place to stay, close to everything but quiet peaceful,in town for a family wedding and our family enjoyed the stay!!

We came for a horse show and this place was wonderful. Plenty of room for all of our group. Well equipped kitchen and we enjoyed cooking each night. Beds were comfy and everything was thought of. Bernie is a super host and there if you need anything.

We had a wonderful weekend stay at The Guest House to attend a horse show at the Virginia Horse Center. The house accommodated our large group perfectly! Everyone had an actual bed to sleep in and we were able to have nice dinners together as a group. The proximity to the horse center allowed us to easily make trips back and forth for those in our group not competing. It was nice to have a place to sit and relax, especially on the beautiful porch. I highly recommend this location and we will definitely be back again. Thank you!

We needed a decent sized house close to VMI for graduation weekend. this house was perfect! Roomy, comfortable, lots of bathrooms, comfortable beds and awesome porches, both front and back. The location is really convenient when you are running back and forth to either VMI or Washington & Lee. The kitchen has anything you could need, along with the best electric kettle I have ever seen- and used constantly over the 3 days we were there. The hosts were very accommodating and helpful. The yard is great and includes a hammock we were dying to use but didn't get the chance to try out. I would recommend this house to anyone who is spending time in the Lexington area.

Our family spent four nights over the Thanksgiving holiday in the Guest House. The location was convenient to the Lexington area. We enjoyed the Lexington area including the local 5k Gobble Wobble. We had plenty of room both inside and out for our family of 8 adults and 5 children. The sleeping rooms off two of the upstairs bedrooms work well for travelers with young children, and each of the three upstairs bedrooms having their own private bathrooms was a bonus for each of these rooms. However, it should be noted that the downstairs half-bath that is listed in the rental description was just a toilet--no sink for hand washing or oral care--as you need to use the kitchen sink or go upstairs, so keep this in mind if you are renting this home and plan to use the downstairs. The dining room accommodated 10 chairs plus 3 high chairs. The kitchen was stocked with enough dishes and pans. We found ants on the kitchen countertop which the owner was apparently aware considering the ant traps present. Our main issue was the fact that two members of our family had rather severe respiratory reactions when indoors such as they experience when exposed to cats. One member felt she was going to have to leave as she was having breathing difficulties. We were surprised since we looked at booking only places that did not allow pets. Once home, we contacted the owner regarding this issue with no response. For the above reason, we would not consider another stay.

We rented your home over a VMI home football game with some close family friends and VMI Alums, and we had a blast! The well-appointed kitchen allowed us to cook together, making the kitchen the usual gathering spot! Out Rats relaxed, slept, ate and watched football. And we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will be back!

The house was great! Very clean with lots of space for all ten of us. Large kitchen and dining area for everyone to eat together. Plenty of towels in each bathroom. Our group will definitely rent from you again! Thank you!

My cousin's Lexington-area wedding brought a family of over 20 to Bernie and Carol's amazing house (and neighboring Carol's Cottage). Our 3-night stay couldn't have been better. First, the houses are really adorable and well-kept. We loved the decor and the layouts. It's obvious that these houses were set up by folks with excellent taste and an appreciation for cozy comfort. The houses were also fully equipped to handle all of us comfortably. We enjoyed several family meals using the well-equipped kitchen and spacious dining room. The children enjoyed playing outside on the hammock, swing, and sprawling lawn. Everyone slept comfortably in meticulously clean, air-conditioned rooms with en suite bathrooms, which were all stocked with towels and toiletries. Everything that we needed was there, including speedy responses from Bernie and Carol for all of our questions. We loved lounging on the porch during down times, lingering as the day cooled and the starry night skies lit up. We never once turned on the television in the main house (wifi was really all we needed). The houses were very easy to find, and all groceries and such could be picked up just a couple of miles down the road. All things considered, it was one of the easiest vacations we've had in a long time.
