Clove Island Villas & Spa

Quiet and charming place. Nice room. TV. AC. Wifi. Nice towels. Comfortable bed. Restaurant had fair enough of options to choose from.

Lounge seating was not comfortable. The bathroom was outdated and always the floors get wet. It needs drain or to reposition the shower. Water is not free, considering the place is far from city, you would think they would offer free water to guests.

Wer Ruhe sucht, wir hier den richtigen Platz dafür finden! Wir hatten drei tolle Tage mit super freundlichen Damen hinter der Bar und Reinigungspersonal. Auch die Verantwortlichen der Unterkunft standen mit Rat und Tat zur Seite. Das Frühstück wurde immer frisch zubereitet. Aus einer übersichtlichen Karte, konnte eine kleine Variation ausgewählt werden. Beim Abendessen haben wir viele kleinere Sachen zum Probieren bestellt, alle waren super lecker! Vor allen Dingen das Avocado-Thunfischtartar!

Für uns persönlich waren die Matratzen im Schlafzimmer sehr hart, nach der zweiten Nacht hatten wir etwas Rückenschmerzen. Aber das ist ein subjektives Empfinden und es gibt Leute, die das genau so mögen.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, cosy and with a beautiful sea view! The sea is right in front of the hotel. During low tide you can take a strawl to the reef. We were alone at the beach. The service was lovely and the food tasty and well prepared. Power shortages are common and expected here in the south of Zanzibar. It was a nice and relaxing stay - we even could keep the room for the late check-out without any charge.

Batterie candles were missing in the room.

From the boho beachy vibe cast away peacefulness to the wonderful staff, Clove Island is everything we (mother and daughter) had been hoping for from our trip to Zanzibar. The food at the hotel was excellent. Very affordable and lots of choice with locally and ethically sourced produce. The breakfast was outstanding with lots of fresh fruit, a selection of bread, eggs and yogurt etc. All of the staff were very friendly and attentive. The facilities and grounds were well kept and always clean. The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable. We booked our excursions through the hotel and everything was taken care of and very affordable. During our trips we met some amazing people and learned a lot about life in Zanzibar. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and would highly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing escape. As two female travellers, we felt safe and taken care of on the hotel grounds and during our trips with the guides and taxi drivers. All of the locals we encountered in Makunduchi seemed very friendly and welcoming too.

Clove Island is located in a remote South Eastern part of the Island, so the Taxi journeys from/to the airport and Stone Town etc is hard going. However, for us it was worth it to fully appreciate and experience the peacefulness that came with being away from the busier parts of the Island and getting to see some of the local villages and way of life in Zanzibar away from the tourism. So if you are looking for cast away vibes, you’ll get exactly that here.
