What a lovely vacation at Villa Toucan. Jackie and Cesar were very friendly and accommodating. The air conditioner broke and was replaced the same day. The owner of the property was also very prompt to respond to our inquiries.
We used local taxis to get to Coco Beach for grocers and some meals. Walking is virtually impossible given the hills and heat. The location is extremely peaceful and we enjoyed sitting outside to bird watch. The beach truly was the highlight for us. We did some snorkeling and saw plenty of fish along the rocks that surrounded it. It was perfect for swimming and had a sandy bottom. This is our 4th time to Costa Rica, we love the local people who are so friendly.

The property is well maintained and beautifully situated on a mostly private bay. Beautiful views and beach. Snorkeling was great right off the beach. We really enjoyed our stay.

We rented Villa #6 in Pez Vela for a short stay in April 2023.
We loved the Villa. It had everything we needed. The Kitchen was well stocked with all the things we needed to cook our own meals. Sitting outside at night was wonderful, the lush landscaping is full of tropical plants and trees. The beach is a short walk ( a block ). There is a pool that only the members or renters can use so it is quieter and more private. We ate at the restaurant by the pool. Their food was fabulous. If you like a challenging hike, you can walk from Pez Vela Beach to Ocotal Beach. We would surely rent there again. Side Note: this was during Easter week and all the local people flood the beaches, because Pez Vela is more private the beach was not overcrowded like the other beaches. And the sunsets are out of this world beautiful!

We had an incredible stay in Ocatal. The location and villa were perfect for our needs traveling with our 3 adult daughters. Plenty of space, house was comfortable, kitchen well equipped, and the location to the beach/pools was ideal. Hope to come back someday.

Great time in Costa Rica
My wife and I had to cancel a family trip due to illness, so we decided to check out villas in Costa Rica on short notice.The owners were very quick to respond and took time to answer any questions we had , and gave us tips as well. Highly recommend the house the location and the on site restaurant !!. We will book again in the future.

This villa was perfect for our family. The resort is down the road from Playa Coco where you can get groceries and any other supplies you might need.
The house is well appointed and beds were comfortable. We had a large group, including a 4 year old and the proximity to the beach and pool was perfect.

First of all, we experienced such generous and thoughtful communication with Liz and Henry, who made our entire experience flawless and perfect. They gave us so much advice, which was invaluable as it was our first time to Costa Rica. Our family of 6 adults spent one week at Villa Toucan, which exceeded our expectations. The furniture and decor is comfortable with some updates. While we did think it could maybe have more chairs in the living room for the number of adults we had, there was plenty of space for us all to stretch out. The beds were all very comfortable (We slept so well!); there was a fabulous dining table and the kitchen had all the supplies we needed to make some wonderful meals. We were also grateful for an abundance of beach towels and a laundry room. The location of the townhouse for us was excellent, with close proximity to the beach and pool -- this made going to the ocean oh so easy! And the resort's restaurant (by the pool) is very good. We ate there for New Year's and thoroughly enjoyed it. The nearest town, Coco, is about a 12 minute drive away and had some excellent grocery stores and a fresh fish store, as well as numerous restaurants. We loved that we were in a quiet beach of our own, which was never over crowded. Everyone (residents, guests, staff and locals) was very friendly and we definitely feel we want to return again and again to Villa Toucan and its gorgeous location. This was by far one of our favorite vacations!

Fantastic vacation in this idyllic location -
Perfect 4 days in a beautiful, tucked away spot with a private beach, beautiful views, restaurant onsite but a short 10 minute drive to town that has everything you need. Villa is spacious and wonderfully equipped, beds very comfortable, nice outdoor patios to take in the views. Will definitely go back. Owner provided extensive information on the property. Highly recommend!!

Wonderful Stay at Villa Toucan
Our family of 4 had a great week at Villa Toucan. The description and images of the villa are very accurate. We enjoyed having coffee each morning on the outdoor patio and watching the birds and monkeys. We spent many days hanging out at the pool and going back and forth to the ocean. The beach is very private and the water calm. We did a lot of snorkeling along the edges of the beach/cove and saw a lot of very cool and colorful fish. The restaurant at the pool is an added bonus. The food and service is great, and the kids especially enjoyed the smoothies and ice cream. All in all, a great trip. Thanks for sharing Villa Toucan with us!

Excellent location amongst the group of villas!
Good location, good time! The restaurant on the site has the best service and best food within 15 Km (10 miles) Great, clean pools and wonderful proximity to the ocean!
The unit was spacious and clean, but needs the plumbing; toilets, faucets, counter tops upgraded to 2018 standards. The office staff, pool and restaurant staff were exceptional.
With the plumbing and other upgrades completed, I'd give a 5 star.

PS For what I paid for the Toucan unit I could rent a brand new two bedroom, two bathroom unit 2 minutes away from Pez Vela for THREE MONTHS (no pool and not close to the ocean/beach .

The Villa exceeded our expectations!!
It was our first time in Costa Rica and we had several questions before our trip. The owners of our Villa were always very responsive to our questions and extremely helpful. We really enjoyed the location and office staff at Bahia Pez Vela. Ceasar and Jackie did an amazing job helping us with all of the tours we booked while we were there.

Great place to stay
I stayed at Villa Tucan for 5 nights on a girls getaway. It is a spacious 3 bedroom condo that is very close to the beach, pool and on site restaurant. The kitchen was well equipped, everything was clean and the decorations were cheerful. There is also plenty to do nearby. The condo is in a development called Playa Pez Vela which is in its own beautiful and secluded black sand cove. The snorkeling from the beach is fantastic and at low tide one can walk on the rocks and tide pools to the next cove over (Playa Ocotal). The waves in the cove are small and it is a great place to swim. Of course, the pool was refreshing and beautiful. We took a number of walks from the Villa where we saw Howler monkeys, colorful birds, scuttling crabs, iguanas and the biggest toad ever. The staff at the Playa Pez Vela was really helpful and responded immediately when we had an issue. The owners, Henry and Liz, are friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place as a base for travelling in this part of Costa Rica.

We spent three wonderful days at Villa Toucan, it was just as described. We loved how close it is to the pool and the beach and loved being able to go snorkeling just off the beach. We would definitely come back again.

Perfect Paradise!
We spent 3 nights/4days at Villa Toucan. It was perfection!! Stunning quiet beach, very comfortable condo with everything we needed. We were a large group, but never felt crowded in this roomy, well appointed unit. The staff were very friendly and helpful. And the owners, Elizabeth and Henry were super helpful with suggestions on what to do and see nearby. Would definitely recommend Villa Toucan to family and friends and look forward to another visit in the future!!

Great Stay at Villa Toucan
What a great condo in a wonderful spot! It's not a far drive from the Liberia airport and so easy to get to. The condo is spacious, clean, and well designed with everything you need. The condo is greatly situated; a 1 minute walk to eating, a beautiful pool (good for dipping or laps), and a gorgeous black sand beach. I went with a group of girlfriends of a week "away from it all" and I had an amazing time. It's close to the town of Coco and other great spots to eat or relax. The massages on the beach were amazing--price-wise and quality. We also ventured to a National Park with Tico Tours which was easy and very beautiful. I highly recommend this condo and the location can't be beat.

Lovely black sand beach with great swimming
Our family of 5 adults spent two weeks at the Villa Tucan over the holidays. The listing description was mostly accurate, and the property was very clean. Photos show the rooms exactly as they are; the villa is more spacious than the photos led us to expect. We appreciated having a washer and dryer in the unit. The owner intends to make some updates which will improve comfort and decor.
The location is truly beautiful, on a tiny black sand bay with views of the gorgeous coastline to the north. The gardens are lovely and immaculately maintained. The owners are extremely responsive, and on-site management is very good.
We love, love, loved the beach! Fabulous swimming. A lot of local families also walk in to use the beach during the day. The pools are really nice, not too crowded even at high season, and the on-site restaurant is a local favorite. If you want breakfast out, you'll need to drive to the Coco Coffee Company or another restaurant. Check the most recent TripAdvisor reviews for restaurants; there is a lot of turnover. Be aware that most reviews are raves no matter what the quality--people are having a good time here and no one is too critical.
You will want a rental car. Parking is covered and at the door of the villa. The nearest town, Coco, is about 10 minutes away. Driving is very slow because of road conditions and a great amount of foot and bicycle traffic; other drivers are not aggressive during the day, but sometimes at night an impatient driver may pass you in a rush. We saw no accidents or other road problems during our two-week visit and did not feel that driving in Costa Rica is difficult or dangerous in any way.
Coco is a small but lively beach town filled with tourists, expat Americans, and locals. Watch your step! There are no sidewalks, and most of the paved areas are uneven. Souvenir shops and bars abound. Supermarkets are well stocked and open 7 days a week.
The new Diamante Eco-Adventure park in Matapalo, about 45 minutes to the south, just opened in December 2015. It will be a lot of fun when all the features are open. The zip lines are operating now and are spectacular. The owners have an extensive list of recommendations for activities, and many can be arranged through the office. Important: Check web sites before your trip, and bring a list of possible activities so you won't be at the mercy of the very slow Internet at the villa; it often quit working during our visit.

great girls trip
I had a great time at this villa on a girls trip in November 2015. The villa has every thing you need, enough kitchen implements, towels, WiFi, A/C, laundry machine, air mattress, grill, etc. It´s spacious, and accommodates many without being crowded. Great ocean views from the villa, nice balcony and patio with papaya trees. The property is gorgeous, great flowers, saw monkeys and cool birds every day. The pool/beach/restaurant are just a minute walk from the villa. The beach was basically empty most of the time and water very calm. Great snorkeling right off the beach. Also got a great massage on the beach. The restaurant was wonderful, delicious fish tacos, fast service and a great place to hang out. There are great walks in the hills behind the villa and you can walk around the point to Ocotal Beach. The villa is also very near to Coco town which has lots of restaurants, bars, stores and four grocery stores. The owners were very accomodating, nice, responsive, ect. We will definitely return. Girls trip
The perfect beach/pool property. Condo was very comfortable, clean and spacious with a lovely back yard, mango trees, exotic birds....Short walk to pool and beach and lovely restaurant. Its a small community of condos very secluded from hub bub of the other areas and busier public beaches, but they were accessible by walk or driving. 10 min drive to town with great shopping, restaurants, casino. Also short drive to zip lining and monkey reserve.

Pure Life!
I stayed here with my husband and 3 children for 4 nights. We were impressed with how beautiful and well kept the property was and also how clean and organized the house was. The small and secluded beach offered a wonderful exploration area. We snorkelled, swam, and hiked to Ocotal beach. We saw a variety of birds and we also saw lots of monkeys. The kids enjoyed the pools. We had a great time!

Wonderful Place to Stay
We, my wife and I along with our 6 and 8 year old children, spent 8 days here. It is as advertised, a very nice Villa and a great beach. The pools are quite nice and the restaurant has great food. It is a great spot to centralize your Visit to Costa Rica around. The snorkeling from the beach was as good as the dive trips I made, especially along the left side of the beach. The villa has lots of room and more tools in the kitchen than our home.

Great Vacations at Villa Tucan
I had a great time at this villa with my family. The villa has every thing you may need, enough kitchen implements, towels, WiFi, A/C, laundry machine, air mattress, grill, etc. It´s spacious, you can accommodate a lot of people and not feel crowded. It is much better than in the photos. The pool is very close to the villa and also very nice, always clean, with good chairs and a nice view. The beach is small and the sea is very calm. The villa is also very near to Coco Beach (10min by car) that is a town with a lot of activity and a great nightlife specially for young people, restaurants, bars, stores, etc. Also is very private and quiet for families, it´s a great place if you have children. The owners are really nice, quick response and always in touch and trying to help. I would definitely will come again. Thank you Henry and Elizabeth for every thing.

Spacious unit, a/c and solid WiFi. Steps to beach and pool with good snorkeling right off the beach. Calm ocean. Resort feels quiet and serene. Picante restaurant on premises. Good food, try the Batten Verde, a blended mojita, yummy! Not open for breakfast.
10 minute drive to shopping, high -end supermarket and nice restaurants. Must have car. Easy access to fun day trips. I went canyoning and tubing. Resort staff is friendly, responsive and English speaking. We had car trouble and they helped us. They even arranged for a massage on beach for me.
Owners were terrific to work with. Easy going, nice and friendly.
I would definitely go back and next time I’ll even bring my husband and kids.

For one week I loved staying at Villa Tucan. Bahia Pez Vela is a secluded, private section of the Ocotal Beach. The small beach is great and the swimming pools are awesome. The pictures of Villa Tucan dont make it justice, the condo is spacious, and beautiful, it has an AC unit on the first floor and central air on the second floor, a working washer and dryer, hot water, there are plenty of dishes, and towels for 10+ people. Villa Tucan is the perfect place for families or adults seeking peace and relaxation. We were 9 adults and 2 small children and everyone had their own bed to sleep. The condo is located within steps of the swimming pools and beach, I took my young daughter to the beach while the guys cleaned the pool every morning. We saw monkeys, exotic birds and other two interesting animals at our location. You will definitely need a car to get you in and out since the closest super market is about 4 kilometers from Bahia Pez Vela. The personnel at Bahia Pez Vela including reception where very nice and helpful, they would guide you anywhere. We visited nearby beaches but I guarantee you, you wont need to leave Bahia Pez Vela if you dont want to, you have everything there including a nice and spacious restaurant and bar next to the main swimming pools. The old TV at the condo would probably dissapoint a teenager but if you grew up with those then it wouldnt be a problem, cable and wi-fi worked great and never lost connection. I will definitely come back here. So far my favorite place to vacation. Thank you to the owners for selecting this amazing place for others to enjoy.

Our stay at your place was, in a word, perfect! It couldn't have been better. The house is extremely cozy and fit our group of 5 with much extra room to go around; the kitchen was well-equipped with just about every type of appliance and serving apparatus one might need. We did plenty of cooking and lots and lots of relaxing by the pool(s) and the beach; the beach is very safe and during low tide there are opportunities for tide pool exploring and to see some interesting tropical fish. We had initially planned on some daytime excursions, but in the end chose to spend our full three days at the villa. The upper floor has great views of the water, all of the rooms are perfectly comfortable and the villa itself is in excellent condition.
I have to mention that the property owners themselves are great people and were very responsive, helpful, and kind in accommodating our group on what was literally less than 48 hours' notice.
All in all, we're keeping this place bookmarked for any friends who are thinking of getting away to Costa Rica in the future! Highest recommendation.

Perfect place to stay for a family or group of individuals like us.
Plenty of beds, kitchen fully furnished with lots of utensils, plates, glasses etc.
Great pool, restaurant and snorkeling around the reef right on the beach. No need to go anywhere else. Don't forget the monkeys around entire resort.
Highly recommended.
