We had a fabulous time in Maui- because how can you not?! That being said, we have stayed at several other resorts across the island, and enjoyed them much more than Honua Kai. The room/unit itself was ok - size was good, and it had a well-stocked kitchen. The unit overall could use a refresh, furniture was worn down, large hole in the couch (as mentioned in other reviews), and overall just seems a little old/rundown. The property manager was very accommodating and her communication was good. She was quick to respond when the door batteries were dead, and when we checked in and didn't have enough linens. The tower this unit is in does have a small coffee shop with snacks and such, however its hours were limited. Duke's is the only restaurant on site- pretty location, ok food, hard to get in to- make a reservation! There are several nice pools on property, although we did find it odd that they didn't seem to monitor guests/wrist bands at all. Our last visit to Maui we stayed at the Fairmont and were happy to see them monitoring guests at the pool. The beach is beautiful but not good for swimming - be mindful of coral and rocks, especially if you have young children. We had to drive daily to get to swimmable beaches. The location of the resort is great- quick drive to Napili and Kapalua, and a short drive down to Whaler's Village and the busier Kaanapali area. Overall it was a great visit, and the resort is nice, but definitely not "high end" if that's what you're looking for.

Honua Kai resort is lovely. Multiple pools for all ages. Duke's restaurant very good. Our accomodations were adequate, not luxurious. Staff is accomodating. Property manager has the reputation of being "strict" according to valet service, so don't try to check in before 11!

We had a wonderful time in Maui as always. The property had construction going on which wasn’t great to look at, and the units we stayed in could use some updating, but overall, Honua Kai remains a nice resort. The views are spectacular.

This is our 2nd stay at this resort (2022,2023) and most likely we will come to HK again however, we will not stay at this unit because we had difficulty sleeping. The bed was comfortable but there was a noise which woke us throughout the night and then by early morning there was no sense trying to sleep in. The sound was like someone moving furniture on a tile or wooden floor)
We went on a mission to figure it out and it appears that it may be the elevator motor (even stranger than that the elevator is in the attached building, not the one we were actually in.)
It took us a few days but when we realized what it may be I texted the property owner about it and it’s the only time he did not communicate with me. Other than that he was always quick to respond.
There were a few other minor things we were unhappy about but all in all we still enjoyed our stay.
We actually wished we had our grandkids sound machines. We are surprised that we are the only people to complain about the noise. I saw reviews about cleanliness and age of furniture and carpeting but quite honestly that was the least of our complaint.

The property s in a great location. The resort is well maintained and clean. It has everything you could want and the staff is helpful. The unit itself is dated and could use an upgrade.

Smelled urine and under the sheets, the mattress pad has big urine stain.
Unit is very dirty: urine on mattress pad, really dirty sofa, tile grout in the bathroom is black with filth, shower door is caked with salt.
This unit needs a thorough scrub before being rented again.

Loved the property, loved the room. You can be on the beach in the water in 5-10 mins but it might take you 20 because you will find yourself walking slow just enjoying the beautiful grounds of the resort.
The pool is awesome and easy to find an umbrella during the time we went.
Only issue was the sewerage plant across the street. In the evening the smell is overwhelming when you're on the lanai.
I would definitely book again!

This condo had all of our needs. The beach chairs were key! A beautiful resort that was great for adults and kid friendly. The beach and pools were lovely. The location felt removed enough from town to feel mellow but still very accessible to everything.
The owner was quick to respond and easy to work with.

Dukes was east to get into without reservation and grocery was within walking distance. Unit was nice a modernly spacious. But bedding and upholstery was worn and needs replacement. Doors to patio open to make a beautiful extension on the living space - but birds try to fly in. The view of the pool and ocean is only from a small corner of the patio.

I’ve stayed at this resort before. Good units, Hectic, overcrowded resort. This time rented a privately owned unit. Way too many rules. Fell short on soap and owner said to buy by own. Not very hospitable, and not affiliated with onsite property management.

Just a few minutes down the road from Lahaina, everything around is conveniently located. The condo is nice although the building is starting to show it's age. The grounds are beautiful and well kept.

Only thing I wish was a little different was the pool and chairs. Not enough chairs available. Also one small adult only pool. All other pools had a lot of loud kids playing making it hard to relax. Dukes restaurant is awesome as well as the rest of the resort.

wish you could see the ocean from our lanai. it was hardly visible . overall it was a nice stay, we would have liked to have had comforters for the beds, instead of just 2 layers of flat sheets. I couldn’t make sense of that.

I will start by saying this is our 5th trip to the Honua Kai and it has always been lovely. I have stayed in different units (due to different size parties) each time. This unit GREATLY disappointed!! Without writing a book I will say that the water heater is insufficient and will only give you 3 inches of hot water in the tub before it turns ice cold...not much point in a soaking tub with only 3 inches of water in it. When I brought this to the owners attention I was told it was a 1 bedroom unit and therefore had a small water heater?? To list the other issues: burned/torn sofa that was FILTHY!, No linens for the pull out sofa sleeping section, stained dirty carpet, broken vacuume that wasn't usable so no vacuuming all week, broken hair dryer that was unusable all week, a broken bar stool that my 7 year old fell off of due to it being broken, and a frozen ice maker so no ice all week without going down to the basement ice machine. When I contacted the owner she had the cleaning service bring linens and she told me basically, 'it is what it is' with the water heater and then just never responded to my other issues. HUGE disappointment! It is VERY obvious they have done NOTHING to keep up the unit since buying it. The chipping paint, dirty grout lines and battered appliances were bad enough without the stuff that was blatantly broken. Also no cushions for the lanai furniture so the partial ocean view we paid for could only be comfortably enjoyed standing up as the furniture is designed to have cushions and apparently they were never replaced once discarded with time. In short DO NOT stay in 840!!

Had a relaxing time
We loved our vacation. The condo at the Honua Kai was perfect, with views of the mountain, the onsite pool and best of all the ocean. The location was convenient with access to the popular Beach walk and Duke's restaurant. Love this property.

Christmas In Maui
We really enjoyed our say at this condo. We have stayed at Honua Kai 4 different times and it's in a great location with great weather. We usually stay in a 2 BR with 4 adults and 2 children. For a 1 BR this still had enough room for 2 adults and 2 children. There were a few issues like the ice-maker when we first got there. But the property managers fixed it as soon as they could.

Amazing unit, location, and amenities
When my family and I travel to Maui, we typically stay in the South part of the Island and wanted to try something different this time. We were debating between staying at a hotel/resort as we thought it would be nice to stay somewhere that offered a restaurant on-site, a great pool for the kids, etc. When I saw the pictures of this unit and the Honua Kai resort - it seemed like the perfect blend of both so we booked it ASAP!
We had many great meals at Duke's, spent lots of time at the end of the day by the pool and hot tub, and just a quick walk south we found amazing wide open sandy beaches with perfect snorkeling! A couple of nights we decided to walk down to the main Kaanapali area and Whaler's Village (about an hour walk so we could get some exercise and meander through some amazing scenery) and Uber back and really enjoyed and appreciated this unit's proximity to everything.
This unit was very clean, modern, and well-appointed. We typically cook a few meals during our trip and the kitchen was stocked with all necessary items, but we ended up eating all meals out and spoiling ourselves a bit! The owner has beach chairs, boogie boards, and a small beach cooler bag in the main closet which all came in handy.
It was disclosed that there was some construction across the property but it was further away than what I expected and didn't bother us one bit.
Check-in was an absolute breeze and the valet parking and towel service was amazing! The host, Fereshteh, was extremely gracious and responsive before/upon our arrival.
I would give 6 stars if I could! We found our new spot in Maui and will definitely stay here again.

We had a great time here in 840 and the whole property. The condo was very well equipped and the lanai and its view were wonderful, peaceful and quiet. I highly recommend this condo.
With all that being said if you are a light sleeper, as I am, word of caution. There is a elevator shaft behind the bed that is constantly running and you hear it in the whole condo all day and night. We wish there would have been a box fan to help drown out the noise. Maybe the owner would consider getting one.
I hope to come back someday as I would come back to this condo.

This is a great condo. It has all you need for a vacation, including some boogie boards, sand toys, beach backpack chairs, etc. Beach and pool towels are available through the resort and you can pick them up daily on you way. Kitchen has all the equipment you need to make a meal, if you want to stay in. Agent was available on short notice. Check in and check out was fast and efficient.

Family memories
We have stayed in Maui 5 times. Always at 5 star hotels, however with two kids we wanted to stay somewhere that we could cook breakfast and lunch and still have that 5star resort feeling. This place far exceeded our expectations and was truly the best place our family has ever stayed in Maui! From the spacious one bedroom room with huge bathroom, to the beautiful kitchen, to the fully stocked room with everything a family needs for pool and beach life, to the awesome easy available grills outside that made cooking so easy! I recommend this place for all families.
