Huguenot House

Excellent location. Staff were fantastically welcoming. A comfortable stay in every way.

The property was absolutely stunning, great location! It was quiet and a very nice space to relax.

The only thing was the TV in our room didn’t want to connect to Netflix, or DSTV now. They did have DSTV there but they didn’t have the full package so I couldn’t watch the golf or the F1.

Nice rooms, very helpful and kind host and personnel, excellent breakfast.

The staff was very friendly, Jess the owner was onsite to help with problems. The room was excellent, with a large patio and the biggest bathroom of any hotel I have ever stayed in. The breakfasts were adequate but limited. I think in a 4* place one expects buffet breakfasts these days, not a set menu. They did get Gluten Free bread for Jill. One day breakfast was not available and Jess, very generously, refunded us a day of the trip. The setting was good, very peaceful and quiet, being about 6km out of Franschhoek

Some things that you expect in a 4* place were lacking. No toiletries, at first no tissues, or gowns. These were provided after we asked, but we should not have had to ask! The place seemed tired and slightly run down, although I understood Jess was having problems with other directors. There were no drawers or shelves in the bedroom. We laid our clean clothes on the base of the wardrobe, or we could have left them in the case. OK for a one night stay: not a 4 night one. I asked for breakfast poached eggs, my holiday luxury, and was told they only fry them, the sausage, I repeatedly ordered was often missing. Yes, minor irritations, but there are standards, and if you are not up to 4* be prepared to accept that. Sadly, HH is no longer a 4* establishment, in my opinion. That said, Jess tries to see that his guests are as comfortable as possible and the staff try hard .
