Spa Shallum

I spent three nights at Spa Shallum. It's in such a beautiful peaceful area. The room I had is fairly basic but lovely and comfortable. Lovely big comfortable bed with fabulous drawstring mosquito net. A good shower, and storage space. It is in a fabulous location overlooking the lake and just a few minutes walk to a couple of hotels with restaurants. There are other restaurants within walking distance. There is also a little beach about 10mins walk away. With a good level of fitness and mobility, town is about 30-40mins walk away with access to the Congo Nile Trail. The apartment has a seated area outside with lights so it's possible to sit outside at night and read and have a delicious breakfast in the morning. One of the best things about my experience here is Faustin, a wonderful kind and thoughtful gentleman, who was always on hand and very responsive. As was Becky both before and during my stay there which was wonderful and reassuring. I loved it and would not hesitate to stay here again.

It would have been lovely to have a small kettle and a small fridge in the room. As there is no kettle, Faustin bought me flasks of hot water when I needed it.  The bathroom sink was blocked and it took a while for water to go down.

Fisbain, the manager, was a very gentle, kind and obliging man who spoke English. The room was clean, though there tiling in the shower was degrading. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was excellent with beautiful fresh juice, Spanish omelet, toast, tea and coffee. There is a view of the lake across a road and 2 reasonable restaurants within 5 minutes walk

No kettle, no fridge, wifi was intermittent

Despite the con mentioned below, we enjoyed our stay in the quiet and peaceful location of the hotel. We had a delicious breakfast served in the morning and were able to watch the birds and fishermen in action by the bay. We also had a great massage! The staff are really friendly and quite accommodating. It's easy to hire taxis (car or motorcycle) to get around and it's also a lovely area to walk

When we arrived, the hotel had just moved to a new location. Unfortunately, the photos on their website did not correspond to the new location so we were disappointed by that. The new place is smaller without as much direct lake views and is still being built. Note that the photos currently on their website are still the photos from the previous location. Suggest you call or message the hotel to check before booking
