Bowburn Hall Hotel

The room was very well presented and clean. Free standing copper bath was great and toiletries were lovely.

Pipes running around the room were hot so room was quite hot with no control. Breakfast was good but it was table served on our first morning and nothing said on second morning that it was now buffet. We ate dinner on one night and it was OK, heavy on portion size and no vegetables other than an eyeful of peas.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, we arrived late and they were able to accommodate an evening meal which was great 👍

The room and bed was small. The breakfast was a disaster...sack the chef!!!! My wife and I ordered eggs benedict along with another guy next to us. How can you make hard boiled poached eggs...??? Completely inedible....horrible breakfast. Strange though, at our previous evening meal we heard guests at the hotel complaining about the breakfast food....maybe sack your breakfast chef ?!?

Location is good for Durham. Building and grounds are nice and the hotel is clean. Double bed was large and comfortable.

The top floor, where the standard double rooms are is shabbier than expected - Cheap scruffy doors, marks on the walls, paint left on TV cables, light fittings loose on the wall. The shower pressure was poor - becoming a dribble when the next door room presumably flushed a loo or turned on their own shower. The photos you see when clicking on "double room" suggest they are grander than they are. Biggest issue though was breakfast - we turn up 30 minutes before then end to find very limited options left in both the hot and cold sections. We asked if the soft fruit could be topped up and were told it was being saved for a wedding later that day - ignoring that we had paid for a breakfast, and that the wedding probably wouldn't have missed two small portions of fruit. You should ensure that you have enough breakfast for all of your paying guests!
