The Red House Guest House

It was easy and free to park nearby. The host was welcoming and smiley. The house was full of character. It was close to town, which meant we could walk everywhere.

We were disturbed quite a bit by lorries thundering along the road. We hadn't expected that. Grantham had some interesting parts - St Wulfram's church, the chained library etc, but the main road in the town was rather rundown.

Spacious family room, clean and tidy and comfortable in a grade-listed building on North Parade, Grantham. The hostess, Amy, was friendly, kind, and warm-hearted. It was a real pleasure talking to her. The price for the two nights was very reasonable and competitive. Overall, the Red Guest House beats other places in Grantham hands-down.

Arrived to find you have to park on a busy road. No car park. Then told we are in the annexe. Not what we booked. The annexe rooms were not in the advert we booked after seeing. Seems to be an inferior boarding house they have taken over next door but 1. The room was on ground floor inches from the pavement outside and very close to main road. All furnishings and decorating very old and tired. The TV was on a big coffee table diagonal in front of the fireplace and tiny cupboard with hangers in and rowsof silicon parts to keep away damp and the oldest rustyest ironing board with no covers on at all leaning in front of the shelves ( no iron by the way!) Bed was low and too soft with a sheet draped over the headboard to disguise the old dirty one underneath. The radiator did not work and the window was held open by 2 bits of wood. The bathroom was smelly, the sink had 2 mismatched taps ( both labeled hot) the toilet roll holder was just a big lump of rust. The toilet was a macerartor that made so much noise! So did the one up stairs! The all the seals on the shower to floor were grubby and falling off. Breakfast was extra but a pound cheaper if we paid in cash. Mine was cold but my husband said his was ok. You could see the place had been cleaned. But the cleaners were faced with an impossible task to make this room up to standard. We were there for a wedding and there was no space or full length mirror . I had to stand in the fireplace to see to put makeup on.bsthroom mirror was too high and no where to put my makeup bag. And to make matters worse. The price we paid was way over the odds when looking at booking.com while we were there znd afterwards. We paid 147.00 for 2 nights. I would have expected to pay perhaps 100.00 with breakfast for the standard of the room.
