Pestana Palace Lisboa Hotel & National Monument - The Leading Hotels of the World

We stayed here for ten days - including our anniversary and a solar eclipse - and had a wonderful time. The building (a former private palace), the beautifully-maintained gardens, the refreshing pool and the comfortable bedroom were all terrific. And the very smartly dressed staff team across the whole site, with all its varied elements, could not have been more welcoming, friendly and efficient. Meals all delicious, with a special mention for the extraordinary breakfasts, which included an option for a staff member to cook an omelette to your own individual requirements. Easy to get into town via reasonably priced Ubers.

Very hard to find fault with this outstanding, quality hotel. Bit of a steep walk to stroll into town - but Lisbon is built on many hills (seven I think), so no doubt visitors will come prepared. I would have loved an opportunity to play the piano, even for a short time, but perhaps understandably this was not allowed (pity as I’d brought my own music, and play regularly for a choir). But this is a tiny point about what really is an amazing place, well worth booking.

Waiters and bar staff very poor. No acknowledgments or greetings. Annoyed to be asked for anything. Hotel very dated - rooms basic. Public toilets in hotel not clean.
