Hotel Abbatial Saint Germain

The hotel is located in a lovely part of town and staffed with sweet, generous people who went the extra mile to help us make the most of our time in Paris. They were particularly helpful in the day’s leading up to the papal visit, posting all the latest official information about closures and advising us on possible workarounds.

It’s tiny elevator….but that’s the price to be paid for staying in historic properties!

Its location near to the islands, views of Notre Dame from the top floors, convenient metro, lots of left bank life around is delightful. Not a ‘high end’ smart area but full of fascinating old Parisien atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff who respond to queries and needs very sympathetically. We’ve stayed here several times because it works well for us. This time our room had a walk-in shower which rates it better than the over bath variety. The rooms are serviced daily, there’s a fridge with mini bar but also space for snacks when eating out not on the agenda.

The rooms are fine, and are provided with everything you need. The disadvantages are probably mostly to do with the sound of the Boulevard St Germain which half the rooms in the hotel overlook. SIrens of emergency vehicles often continue throughout the night even if there’s no other traffic, so this can be disruptive if you are a light sleeper.
