Mercure Angoulême Hôtel de France

Location was perfect. Staff were lovely, helpful especially last called emerude(think that's how it spelt) The restaurant was full the evening of our Stay but she recommended somewhere to eat that we also would recommend. All in all a delightful Stay in the lovely town Stay

The location and the fact I can have dinner and my dog can sit under the table!

The only complaint I have is the pillows are not very comfortable

The staff are stellar and location is really nicely nestled between good shops and great views of Angoulême. Maxime, specifically, was so very kind and extremely helpful!

In many ways it was less nice than its cheaper, sister property, the Ibis Styles, which is located just a bit away. One example: the rain shower head in our room was installed very lazily and incorrectly and sprays the light fixture which is an insane safety issue. The beds only have a single covering so if you’re hot, you’re out of luck. The air conditioning might as well not have been there as it’s temperature-capped (at 23°C, I believe) and it didn’t seem to actually be cooling anything. The fold out bed was the cheapest and most uncomfortable (and not super stable, almost folding our tween child in half) out of all of the hotels we stayed at during our trip. The primary elevator is pretty clanky and janky and extremely small for baggage, much less for people. The (paid) breakfast is nowhere near as nice as the (free) breakfast at the Ibis Styles. The size of the room was smaller than at similar, lower-star-rated hotels.

I liked the welcome at check in and the atmosphere as I passed through the hotel. The public areas looked very clean and very tidy, and the bar looked very inviting!

I was given room 107 which had a view of the garden. The room looked perfect and I settled myself in. I prepared my change of clothes and got ready to take a shower. Before getting in the shower I lifted the toilet seat to urinate, and the toilet was full of excrement! I telephoned reception and asked for another room which they arranged. I get dressed, gathered my belongings and went to reception to change the key for the 2nd room. On entering the 2nd room all was well except I have to say the bathroom was still not particularly clean, the door frame was too wide for the door so it could not be closed, there was stained and dirty grout, and overall it was looking rather tired. Not what I would expect for 140.00 euros!
