Ostria Hotel & Apartments

We needed a hotel last minute for one night and we chose Ostria based on excellent ratings. It had lovely sea and mountain views, it was very clean and spacious, and the reception was friendly and helpful! Easy 5 minute walk from the ferry! Above all expectations on a budget!

A 2 night stay towards the end of our Cyclades island hop. The accomodation is about ten minutes walk out of the port toward the BP station. The room was one of the largest on our trip, with twin beds as requested, a small kitchenette with fridge, kettle, crockery and cutlery. Very decent storage space and frankly, given the space, I was surprised there wasn't an additional single bed in there. The small balcony offered drying facilities and excellent views over the neighbouring bay. (We were on the first floor in block "Delta.") I was provided with an additional pillow on request. A larger than average shower room had a fully tiled shower cubicle with a curtain which did NOT attempt to hug you ! There were plenty of power sockets. The small pool was clean, with comfortable sunbeds and fixed parasols. A young chap manned the corner bar while generic house music played. Next to the reception was a small bar restaurant area. I assume it was open as we found the menu in our room. They missed a trick by not calling the restaurant - "Ostria Hungry Empire !" 😆 Overall good value for money we would definitely stay again. The twice daily trek up and down to the port wasn't too taxing. Ships came and went but most passengers seemed destined for elsewhere on Andros. Gavrio was a relatively sleepy place for such a large island, but there was easily enough for our en route stop off. The pattiseries and the A.B. supermarket were excellent. We ate at a taverna called Pame Vageli to the northen end of the crescent shaped port. Seek out the "Plat Du Jour" menu of daily Greek staples very much harking back to tavernas of the 70s and 80s. Over two nights we sampled 4 of these slow cooked dishes, all priced between 8 and 10 euros. The *beef, lamb, goat and chicken were exceptionally good. (*Don't be put off by the name "Tas Kebab." It was a deliciously rich, chunky stifado minus the sweet onions.)

Everything ! We are very happy with our choice of this accommodation in Andros. Friendly and professional staff.Everything is spotless ! We recommend this hotel to all those who plan a visit to beautiful Andros island.

The water in Gavrion,but thats a different story.The issue with the water is up to the municipality authorities in Gavrio.When you go there buy water from the supermarket.

Good air conditioning and a very short walk from the ferry dock.

The shower was no more than a bidet hose and only provided scorching hot water. The toilet didn't flush. Apparently, there is an issue with water pressure on the island, whereas hot comes from a heated tank, so not an issue.
