ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Kyoto by IHG

A beautiful old hotel. It must have been amazing in its hey day. The rooms have been nicely upgraded and the parts of the hotel that are open were staffed by helpful and friendly people. It is a lovely location right across the road from Nijo Castle. It is far enough away from the main station that it is not too crowded. The hotel always had taxis available when we needed them. The hotel also was able to rent us a wheelchair which was very helpful for the couple of day trips we did while there. The teppenyaki restaurant was superb. The grand chef gave us a brautiful meal.

Many parts of the hotel were closed while we were there. In particular, the pool was closed and rooms are still being renovated. We found it very difficult to get gluten free food which is very unusual for an IHG branded hotel. After some negotiation, they were able to source gluten free rolls to have with the buffet breakfast. We were advised to let them know in advance that you need gluten free options. The same in the main Chinese restaurant where we had to negotiate a gluten free meal and eat that each day. Thankfully, the staff tried to be very helpful and the food was delicious! The teppenyaki restaurant could more easily cater for gluten free meals.

Spa and Sauna

From the warm welcome when I arrived to the comfortable room to the lovely staff in the lobby lounge restaurant - the ANA crowne plaza was a winner. I had a wonderful stay. I have nothing but thanks and praise for the staff and their friendliness. Breakfast is sustaining and delicious. I recommend the bespoke omelettes. The lobby lounge is delightful and there is a pianist on Saturday afternoon. The reception and concierge staff are so helpful. Great experience - would definitely return.

The bus to train station was a nice convenience. Room was very clean except shower/bath had mold stains.

Missed the pool and fitness center. Room was very clean except shower/bath had mold stains. They did not give me liquid shower gel until last day. I prefer that over bar soap.
