Beautiful surroundings, lovely experience!

Staying in the grounds of the castle, with all its atmosphere and the ability to make the gardens ‘ours’ was beautiful- and breakfast was a highlight! This included huge buffet and cooked breakfast- there is no way you could go hungry! Being in the converted stables was gorgeous. Entry to the castle was included in the tariff and you could go in as many times as we liked. We chose to attend the dinner which was not cheap but the food was excellent (4 courses), as was the service and they seated us as if they knew us- next to a lively couple whose company we thoroughly enjoyed. Being able to key in and out of the grounds out of hours was fabulous. Positioned on the Otago peninsular was fabulous with access to delightful sites. The view from our room was 10 star!

This is not meant as a complaint or criticism, as we probably had unrealistic expectations of the room itself. It was nice but smaller than we anticipated- and we would have liked a balcony or verandah. We were unable to choose the room we wanted- and that would have made the difference.

We absolutely loved our stay. We booked the family stable room and expected it to be similar to school camp accommodation so we were very impressed to see a beautifully styled room with hotel beds and all the amenities you would expect in a hotel. The room was warm and had so much character. The staff were all so lovely and the breakfast in the morning was delicious. Definitely not school camp style at all. Was a highlight of our trip

The showers made a lot of noise when being used and made it difficult for our children to fall asleep.

Large beautifully decorated rooms, with stunning views of the peninsula, from our balcony. The little bird who visited us yesterday afternoon and again this morning was very cute. Lovingly restored rooms, with attention to detail. Exceptionaly manicured and maintained grounds. Tasty and hot, hot chocolate from the Cafe.

No compendium in room, so information for us. No arrow on the dial for room heating and no instructions, so we couldn't figure out how to use it. We ordered room service, but unfortunately the donut balls were so hard we couldn't eat them, and one half of the chicken toastie had absolutely no chicken on that side.
