Muthu Belstead Brook Hotel

I like the ambience, the building itself, the staff,the bar dining area is a lovely relaxing space even to just sit and relax with a glass of wine and listen to the relaxing music.the swimming pool,jacuzzi and sauna are great, they provide towels and padlocks for lockers too,unfortunately I couldn't get a treatment (massage) as they were fully booked which was my fault as I left it until the last minute so if your fancying one when you go please make sure you book in plenty of time.breakfast is great,there is a good selection ie..cooked breakfast, cereal,fresh fruit, yoghurt, toast,and my favourite, a selection of pastries yum.

Firstly this doesn't take away from the hotel but the finishing touches make a difference. In the pool area there are palm trees which I love but a couple of them had no leaves and clearly needed maintaining which is a job that wouldn't take too long to rectify and it makes a big difference to me to have everything spot on,also lamps around the pole by the palm trees 3 out of four of the bulbs needed changing again it makes a big difference not a big job. I went for a walk outside by the seating area and felt the surroundings of the building needed tidying up ,around the side was messy I'm probably being fussy but to me it all adds up,the surroundings do matter,nice and tidy beautiful cut lawn and trees that have big broken branches tidied up and made safe,there not nice to look at from the bedroom window.

Bed was very comfortable and the room and bathroom very clean. The breakfast buffet, help yourself with the usual options. Pool was warm, pretty and in good repair. The grounds lovely.

Limited gratuity tray. No decaffeinated options in the room or breakfast room.

The safe didn't work again for this room.

The staff are friendly. The pool and spa area are ok. My wife had a massage which she said was very good. The restaurant setting is nice and the breakfast was nice with good ingredients. The location is within a short drive to the waterfront.

It is tired. The reception appears nice and maintained however beyond that the hotel is needing some attention. Our room was a good size and presented nicely however there were stains on the wallpaper, the arm chair next to the bed had some large stains on it as did the bedside cabinet handle which was next to it - I suspect it had been a spilt drink - didn’t look good on a light coloured arm chair and I chose not to use it. The early check in fees are rather expensive at £15 however on checking out I found out that this was actually £15 per hour - which felt unreasonable especially as the spa treatment had been booked by the hotel for 1pm - the reception staff did only charge me £15 on questioning it.
