Hôtel Restaurant du Pont Vieux

I must come clean - I messed up our booking and arrived on a Monday night expecting the usual hotel experience. What we got was a very concerned French lady, the Owner, in the street in the process of leaving for her 'week-end'. The Hotel was closed and there is nothing for miles and that probably closed as well! 'Easy, no problem. If you don't mind sleeping in an empty hotel with no staff, no evening meal and no breakfast your room is ready for you' I cannot tell you how happy we were to take up the offer. Camares must be one of the remotest villages in the remote Grandes Causses, we had no option. It is a charmingly pretty mediaeval village with it's lofty pack-horse 'Old Bridge' arcing over the quaintly named Dourdou de Camares linking the two halves of the town. Thank-you, Le Vieux Pont, for you old fashioned hospitality to two two elderly and disorganised travellers. If we're allowed back, we'd love to try your dining experience, the menu looked very interesting!
