Great location, near Acadia but away from the crowds. Nice views, that change dramatically with the tide. The chalet has all you need, and was clean and comfortable. Communication from the host was good as well.

17 years visiting Maine, last 5 yrs MDI area. The Elvin's Cottage by far the best overall stay! Cleanliness of the cottage, felt like staying in someone's home, not a rental. Communication fast, and friendly with many suggestions.
Location, honestly the best for everything. We drove 1500 miles from GA, What's another 20 miles to Bar Harbor area.
This year we came to relax, walk the carriage roads and Jordan's pond and eat Lobster everyday!
Purchasing Lobster from Long Hill Lobster guy and wife, and cooking at the cottage, eating on the deck was the best! Along with take out from Thurston's.

My husband and I spent a very comfortable and cozy week at the Elvins Chalet! We celebrated his birthday and our anniversary during the week. The Chalet had everything we needed including privacy on the deck in front of the Harbor!! We visited Acadia National Park and took several day trips exploring the island. Would definitely return!

The quaint chalet was a perfect location for my family as we revisited Mount Desert Island. We chose the quieter side away from the bustling Bar Harbor. The chalet amenities fit our family of 4, especially the deck overlooking the harbor. The detailed instructions provided in the mail by the Elvins as well as at the chalet were helpful in finding new things to do in addition to Acadia National Park. We had a wonderful time and appreciate the Elvins' sharing their chalet with us.

We absolutely loved this Chalet! It was so picturesque and the cleanest and most well stocked VRBO we've ever rented. The owners truly care about their renters, which is evident in all the helpful information they share about the chalet, as well as the surrounding area, places to see, things to do, restaurants to try, etc. We hope to visit MDI in the future and make this chalet our home base again. Thank you so much Warren & Judy!!!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks and loved it! This chalet was the perfect location on Mount Desert Island if you want to get away from the big crowds of the park and Bar Harbor. It is tucked away in a little, quiet neighborhood with a stunning view of the harbor. The house itself was everything we needed. Properly equipped with the kitchen supplies we needed to cook for our 2 weeks there. Warren was an excellent host and ensured we had everything we needed!

Quiet, clean, private, beautiful…a little piece of Maine Harbor life!! It was fun returning from Acadia hikes to relax and watch the sunsets! The tidal ebbs and flows were fascinating!! Gorgeous views from every window!! Easy drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor!! Would stay again in a heartbeat!!

We enjoyed being on the water but away from the more hectic Bar Harbor side. It was a short drive to many trails in Acadia as well as sights outside. We truly enjoyed our stay at the Chalet.

Great place to stay. Close enough to enjoy everything in Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, yet far enough away from all of the hustle and bustle. Warren was a wonderful host There is a ton of information about what to do on the island right in the information binder that he has in the chalet. Very helpful!

The property is in a nice location right on the water, but it’s a long drive to Acadia National park and to Ellsworth.
The house is older, and has a mildewy smell. The kitchen and bathroom hadn’t been cleaned well - surfaces were wiped down, but in particular the shower and toilet in the bathroom needed a good scrub.
When we arrived the exterior trash shed was full. The owners’ instructions for where to put the trash on pick up day were confusing. (I’m guessing this is why prior tenants left their trash in the shed). But the owners charged us extra for not emptying our and other tenants’ trash.

Peace
My husband and I spent a week at the Chalet and loved it. The home is on a quiet street and has a lovely waterfront view. The neighbors were kind, friendly and, bonus, one neighbor walks her goats every afternoon.
We appreciated the cleanliness of the property and the family feel of the home, it truly feels like you are staying with a relative.

Acadia vacation
We had a wonderful week in Acadia and loved staying at the chalet on the quiet side of the island. It was the perfect home base for our day trips around Acadia, and we enjoyed watching the harbor and the tide come and go from the deck. The house was very comfortable for a family of four.

Wonderful Week!
We had an incredible week at the Elvin Chalet. Unfortunately, it went way too fast! The Elvin family is a pleasure to work with, and they provided lots of helpful information to make our stay go smoother. The location was so peaceful and relaxing, exactly what we needed. We are looking forward to staying here again next year.

Great MDI location!
We had a great week at Elvin's Chalet! The views from the house are beautiful and it's in a quiet, peaceful location. Perfect if you want a break from the busier parts of the island! The house was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed during our stay. The hosts were very helpful and responsive. We would definitely stay here again!

We decided to stay on the west side of MDI for the peace and quiet, and this location could not have been better. The house was set up very nicely and was spotless. Communication with Warren was always very timely and helpful. The online listing was very accurate. We are hoping to get back for another week within the next couple of years, and there would be no reason to look for any other listing.

Perfect, quiet retreat for our family
We spent a wonderful week with our two kids (3 and 1) at Warren and Judy's chalet. The communication was excellent - they are seriously the best vacation home hosts I've EVER encountered. Their guides of visitor information is way extensive with many great recommendations for the area. The location of the house is on the island's quiet side, our preferred locale. There's a feeling of remoteness, but everything you need is a short <10 minute drive in Southwest Harbor, and there are plenty of things to explore all over the island, all within a 30-minute drive; the chalet is a perfect base from which to explore. The space is great for a family - two bedrooms upstairs, plus another private room with a futon downstairs. (They provided a pack and play for our infant, as well, which was MUCH appreciated!) A great porch to enjoy views - we loved tracking the tide every day! Comfy beds, full kitchen, TV with cable and DVDs to occupy our oldest during the baby's naps...and us once they kids went to bed! Thank you for hosting us for the week - we loved every second of our stay and would love to return!

Perfect peaceful location to enjoy tidal changes, sunrises and nearby SW Harbor
Chalet was perfect spot to spend our 2 weeks. Clean, warm and inviting, perfect location to watch the changing of tides, wildlife, boating activity and sunrises. Well stocked....you aren't staying in a rental property, you are sharing in Warren and Judy's home which they make available thru rental. Owners are very responsive to any questions/inquiries and leave detailed info for guests on suggestions to explore on the ISland and surrounding area. On quietside of island which we found refreshing..and yet close to the charming village of SW Harbor. We are already planning next year's stay!

Of all the rentals we have done over the years, the Elvin's Chalet has to be at the top of the list when it comes to providing a comfortable home away from home. We have never had a rental that such care was taken to make sure their guests had everything they needed to just relax and enjoy themselves. The Chalet offered us a great deck outside to enjoy when things warmed up in the afternoon as well as great space indoors when things were a little cooler (or wetter) than expected. We have to admit that although one of our reasons for selecting that time of the year was to get away from the heat and humidity that we have at home in July, we certainly didn't expect that we would be firing up a propane heater almost every morning. I mean come on, 52 degrees on July 22? This was probably the coolest July that we have spent on Mt. Desert Island in the 43 years we have been visiting, but that heater worked great at taking off the early morning chill. And although fans were available, we never had to worry about digging them out as the Chalet was always very comfortable. All in all, Warren and Judy have done a great job of making the Chalet and all its amenities a tip-top place to stay for any guest lucky enough to have it as a temporary home to enjoy Mt. Desert Island.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the chalet. It was very clean and had everything we needed. It was great to come back to the peaceful chalet from a day of hiking or a day in Bar Harbor which was bustling with tons of people.

A wonderful Maine getaway
We stayed at the Elvin’s property for a week in October and choosing the property was one of the best decisions we made. It was quiet and peaceful right on the harbor, while still within driving distance of anywhere we needed to be on the island.
The owners were in constant communication as we got ready for our trip to make sure we had everything we needed. They even had a pack n play on site for our youngest which was great.
The house has everything you need. They have board games, WiFi, as well as Blu-ray DVDs, player, and HDTV. They also have an extensive book collection full of classics if that’s not your thing.
The kitchen is furnished with basically anything you could need. The same with the bath and bedrooms. We stayed with two toddlers and it worked great.
They even have a binder complete with answers to any question you could have and details about the community for attractions and restaurants.
Our only regret is we forgot to sign the guest book, but we had a great time and would recommend them to anyone.
